Speech BMW Motorrad op de European Motor Show Brussels 2019.

Goede morgen, bonjour, en welkom op stand van BMW Motorrad. Je suis heureuse de vous accueillir ici et de vous présenter les différents orateurs du jour. Je vais d’ailleurs immédiatement commencer avec le Président & CEO de BMW Group Belux: Eddy Haesendonck !

EH: (Eddy Haesendonck) 

Bonjour à toutes et à tous ! Tout d’abord, je vous souhaite une bonne année 2019.

S:

Eddy, si c’est ton premier salon en tant que patron de BMW Group Belux, ce n’est pas la première fois que tu viens au salon ?

EH :

Non, je connais le salon depuis très longtemps et j’ajouterais que ma première apparition au salon pour BMW était justement sur le stand BMW Motorrad. J’ai en effet commencé ma carrière chez BMW Motorrad Belux il y a vingt-deux ans, entre autre en lançant le BMW Boxer Cup en mille neuf cent nonante neuf. J’en suis sûr que plusieurs d’entre vous s’en souviennent encore, mais pour les plus jeunes : c’était une révolution à l’époque qui attirait l’attention de nos collègues à Munich – et c’est eux qui continuent cette belle tradition actuellement.

Personnellement, j’ai ensuite assisté au lancement de la nouvelle MINI en Belgique en deux mille deux, avant de faire un passage à Munich avant de revenir en Belgique en deux mille quinze. En tant que motard et ancien de BMW Motorrad, je me sens donc parfaitement bien sur ce stand largement plus spacieux qu’il y a vingt ans !

S:

Tu viens de le dire, le stand est assez impressionnant. Le nombre de

motos exposées et la gamme de BMW Motorrad sont très larges aujourd’hui. J’imagine que les résultats sont en conséquence. Comment l’année s’est-elle déroulée ?

EH :

Une fois de plus, nous avons connu une année record. BMW Motorrad est une fois de plus leader du segment des plus de cinq-cents centimètre cube mais nous sommes désormais aussi présents dans des cylindrées moins élevées depuis l’arrivée de notre gamme G 310. Concrètement, nous avons connu un début d’année en force grâce à un salon 2018 particulièrement bon. Le temps sec qui a perduré jusque tard dans la saison, a permis les motards à continuer leur vie sur deux roues, ce qui nous a supporté aussi. En termes de chiffres, nous enregistrons trois mille septante et un motos et scooters en 2018, ce qui équivaut à une part de marché de treize % et même de vingt-trois % dans le seul segment des plus de cinq-cents centimètre cube.

S:

En welke motoren hebben dan precies het meest bijgedragen aan dit succes?

EH:

Het zal jullie allicht niet verbazen dat de BMW R 1200 GS, de BMW 1200 GS Adventure en de BMW R 1200 RT opnieuw bovenaan de lijst van meest verkochte motoren staan, dat was trouwens ook zo in 98. Maar we zijn ook verheugd dat ons Heritage gamma een groot deel heeft bijgedragen aan dit cijfer. Een ander element van deze goede prestatie zijn onze maxi-scooters die steeds opnieuw meer succes boeken.

S:

Bedankt voor deze verduidelijkingen Eddy. Ik kom dadelijk nog even bij je terug maar eerst zou ik graag gebruik maken van de aanwezigheid van een internationale gast. Want wie kan ons beter vertellen over de globale resultaten van BMW Motorrad dan de Vice President Sales & Marketing van BMW Motorrad AG.

Ladies and gentleman, can I have your applause for Timo Resch!

Timo, first of all, welcome in Belgium, welcome in Brussels. I don’t know if this is the first time you come and visit us at the show?

Timo Resch (TR):

Thank you for having me! It is great being here and it is indeed my first time to Brussels as Head of Sales and Marketing at BMW Motorrad and I am very impressed of what I have seen here so far.

S:

You’re perfectly aware of the great results booked by BMW Motorrad here in Belgium but can you give us more details about the position of BMW Motorrad globally.

TR:

First of all, let me thank all of our customers, our dealers and the Motorrad team for this outstanding year 2018.  I’m really impressed to see how many customers and fans of the brand we have here in Belgium.

I am also very proud to say that BMW Motorrad achieved globally an eighth consecutive record year, with more motorcycles and maxi-scooters delivered to customers than ever before. Sales across the range increased by 1% with a total of 165,566 units delivered worldwide. Looking at our product line-up for 2019, I’m sure we will continue this successful path in 2019.

Just as in Belgium, our highest-selling bikes worldwide were the R 1200 GS and
GS Adventure followed by the R 1200 RT. And it is great to see our G 310 GS and 310 R among the top five models in 2018 as well.  This clearly reaffirms our decision to offer BMW Motorrad quality-led premium products for the sub 500 centimètre cube segment.

Our heritage R nineT models are performing very well as well, not only in Belgium but from a global perspective. Also, the scooters C 650 GT and Sport are quite successful.

S:

Timo, congratulations, it’s good to hear that BMW Motorrad is doing so good everywhere. But of course, my next question for you: how are you going to make 2019 even better than 2018?

TR:

For 2019 we have the strongest model line-up ever with all our exciting new bikes.

And besides to our claim to offer the best motorcycles and scooters in their respective segments, we want to keep our customers satisfied!

At this point, you may have heard that we have extended the warranty on our bikes from two to three years.  We also offer more benchmark safety features on our bikes, for example the e-call is not only available for the Tourer bikes like the K and R models, but also for the newly launched F 750 GS and F 850 GS.

On top, with our BMW Motorrad Special aftersales product offensive, we set the benchmark in the area of customizing options ex-factory.

So I am sure that we are more than well prepared for a very successful year 2019!

Here on this stand you can discover the all-new scooter C 400 GT the Gran Turismo among the mid-size scooters. It follows the C 400 X which has been already been launched last year. Both scooters give us the chance to reach a broader audience. They are perfect for people who don’t want a big scooter; instead, they want an agile scooter to ride around town, but also take it for a longer trip outside the city from time to time.

S:

So it seems that the BMW Motorrad scooter portfolio is getting more and more important?

TR:

Indeed. We are aware that we are facing more and more traffic inside the cities and that people are looking for alternatives for their daily urban commutes. But not all of them want to have a powerful motorcycle. That’s why our C product range is growing and offers a great alternative for those who want to move around easily in the city with the latest technologies and a maximum of safety on board.

S:

Thank you for the explanation. I assume that BMW Motorrad also continues to develop its core businesses: The touring bikes, roadsters, adventure, heritage and also the sport bikes, correct?

TR:

You’re absolutely right. Here at the stand we have several Belgian premieres of fantastic, new bikes. I mentioned that we have launched successfully the F 750 GS and F 850 GS last year. Now we are proud to present to you the new BMW F 850 GS Adventure. This bike is the right one for those who want to ride a real adventure bike in the middle-class segment.

At the end of last year, we introduced the new R 1250 GS and R 1250 RT with the BMW Shiftcam technology which brings a new level of performance with more torque and more power. Today, you can discover the new R 1250 GS Adventure as well as the new R 1250 R and R 1250 RS, all equipped with the BMW Shiftcam technology.

S:

And what about sport?

TR:

Since the launch of the BMW S 1000 RR in 2008, our image has dramatically changed and we have surprised many sport minded bikers who didn’t expect such a sporty bike from us. With the S 1000 RR, motorsport riders all over the world have won many championships. The Belgian team headed by Werner Daemen has once more proven the speed and reliability of the double R! But we want to stay the benchmark and this is why we are proud to present the new generation of the all-new S 1000 RR here in Brussels. This sport bike is lighter, faster and also easier to ride.

And for the first time ever, BMW Motorrad now also offers M options and M Performance Parts for the new double R.

But this is not all. The new double R embodies Motorsport in every single aspect from its design to its powerful performance. Therefore we have also decided

that as of 2019 the BMW Motorrad World Superbike Team will be riding the new double R in the World Superbike Championship.

S:

Wouah, Timo, this is impressive. Thank you for this very comprehensive presentation. Ladies and gentlemen, before we end this press conference, let me ask Eddy Haesendonck to join me back to sum up.

EH:

Well thank you from my side Timo. Het is ondertussen al van 1999 geleden dat ik de Boxer Cup organiseerde, maar ik ben zeer blij om te zien dat BMW Motorrad Motorsport terug op het circuit te vinden is. Daarnaast is het ook een plezier om te zien dat onze high performance motoren, en dan specifiek de BMW S 1000 RR om te beginnen nu ook met M opties en M Performance onderdelen kunnen worden uitgerust.

2018 was zowel nationaal als internationaal een fantastisch jaar dankzij het uitgebreide gamma aan nieuwe producten, gaande van de middenklasse GS-en tot onze nieuwe 1250-motor met shiftcam technologie.

Ook voor 2019 hebben we alle ingrediënten om er een mooi jaar van te maken

S:

Dames en heren, u heeft het zeker en vast begrepen, BMW Motorrad staat niet stil en heeft de ambitie om de referentie te blijven. Dit niet alleen in de meest voor de hand liggende segmenten voor ons merk zoals het Tour, Adventure, of Roadster segment, maar ook op het gebied van scooters, heritage en sport.

Alvorens ik afsluit geef ik graag nog mee dat alle liefhebbers van de legendarische stripheld Michel Vaillant hier volgende week woensdag om 14u in de namiddag terecht kunnen voor een signeersessie met Philippe Graton, de scenarist van de nieuwe reeks.

Dat gezegd zijnde, wens ik u en ons een prachtig seizoen toe dat even lang en even mooi is als dat van vorig jaar en dank u hartelijk voor uw aandacht!
