„EfficientDynamics for us means the optimization of weight, of consumption and of driving performance.“ “Our strategy to have this optimized is looking into four different areas. Number one is having the most efficient engines. Number two is the optimization of the energy management within the vehicle. Number three is weight reduction and number four is aerodynamics. All this four points mean EfficientDynamics.” “We are currently developing a new engine family. This new engine family means a modular approach. Out of this modular approach we will have a three, a four and a six cylinder engine as well on the petrol as on the diesel side.” “On the one side this means securing jobs in Munic and in Steyr in Austria. And second of course we invest in the new engine family three hundred million Euros.” “This means we will offer a completely new technology package. We call it BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology. For gasoline engines this means of course turbo technology. It means optimal aspiration of the engine with the Valvetronic. And third an ideal mixture of air and gasoline with High Precision Injection.” “Combustion engines will in future of course have a stand but we will have two additional pillars. One will be hybrid technology and by the end of this year we will see the new BMW 5series ActiveHybrid. In addition we are also investing in new electric drive technologies, in new battery technologies and in 2013 we will then have the new BMW i3 megacity vehicle that drives fully electrical.” “Core competences for us lie in the area of the electric engine, of the battery and the battery modules as well as the electric control unit. So in all these three major pillars we will do a lot of research and development.” “It means on the one side having very good aerodynamics. So we will see a lot of innovations on the aerodynamic side. And secondly of course it is weight reduction. Weight reduction means on the one side intelligent engineering but also means an intelligent mix of materials. This means on the one side high strength steels in combination with aluminum. And of course we are heavily investing in carbon fiber materials.”
