Munich (DE), 21st September 2016. The BMW racers and the experts of BMW Motorrad Motorsport can look back at a brilliant weekend – with two title wins and successful outings in several championships. In the FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC), Pekka Päivärinta/Kirsi Kainulainen (FI) celebrated an historic title win, Kainulainen being the first ever female world champion in road racing. Another BMW Motorrad Motorsport racer was also crowned champion at the weekend: Taylor Mackenzie (GB) won the title in the Superstock class of the British Superbike Championship (BSB STK) – in a race that saw a top-3-lockout for the BMW S 1000 RR. There were podium finishes also for Christian Iddon (GB) in the Superbike class of the BSB (BSB SBK) as well as for Pepijn Bijsterbosch (NL) and Lucy Glöckner (DE) in the Superstock class of the Superbike IDM / International German Championship (IDM STK). It was a very busy weekend for the BMW riders and the specialists from Munich, with races in three different world championships and further international and national series. The successful result also led to changes in the top positions of the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy: Mackenzie improved to third places, Päivärinta/Kainulainen climbed to fifth position (see full standings below).

FIM Sidecar World Championship in Donington, Great Britain.

The ninth and final race of the 2016 FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC) was held in Donington (GB) at the weekend – and it ended with the historic world championship title for Finnish BMW racers Pekka Päivärinta and Kirsi Kainulainen. In the last encounter of the year, they finished second on the podium with their 44-Racing sidecar powered by a BMW S 1000 RR engine. They claimed the world championship title with an advantage of 18 points over their closest rival. German duo Mike Roscher/Anna Burkard (Roscher-Burkard Penz13 Racing) finished the Donington race in sixth position.

The second title win of the weekend came in the Superstock class of the British Superbike Championship (BSB STK), also in Donington (GB). Claiming his sixth win of the season, Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Taylor Mackenzie (GB) was crowned champion with one more race to go. He showed an impressive comeback from eighth on the grid to finish on the top step of the podium again. The race was once more dominated by the BMW S 1000 RR riders, with a top-3 lockout and a total of nine RRs within the top 10. Winner and champion Mackenzie was joined on the podium by Michael Rutter (GB / Bathams SMT) in second and Ian Hutchinson (GB / Tyco BMW) in third. Places five to ten went to Alex Olsen (GB / Power Projects Racing), Adam Jenkinson (GB / NEI Motorsport), Chrissy Rouse (GB / CECS / Mission Racing), Ashley Beech (GB / Jones-Dorling Racing), Leon Jeacock (GB / Geo E Davies Racing) and Barry Teasdale (GB / Green Chem / Bob Henderson Racing).

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures is also available at www.bmw.de/wltp.

For further details of the official fuel consumption figures and official specific CO2 emissions of new cars, please refer to the “Manual on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new cars”, available at sales outlets free of charge, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
