Munich. The last two cost-free matinees of the tenth BMW Welt Jazz Award 2018 invite guests from Norway and Austria to play at BMW Welt’s double-coned structure. Norwegian ensemble Beady Belle will perform on April 8, Austrian duo BartolomeyBittmann progressive strings Vienna on April 22. Afterwards, the expert jury of BMW Welt Jazz Award will nominate two ensembles to compete in the finale concert on June 9 at BMW Welt’s auditorium. The audience will also have the chance to vote for their very own favorite.

A range of songs by the competing bands can be found via Spotify and the “BMW Welt Jazz Award” playlist: spoti.fi/2EvfUj7

The concept band Beady Belle of singer Beate S. Lech and bassist Marius Reksjø first saw the light of day in 1999 with keyboarder and head of label Bugge Wesseltoft. The band’s seven very successful albums featuring guests such as Jamie Cullum and India.Arie, are a testament to its creative potential and continued progress. Its program for a trio, “On My Own” is an intimate work centered around Lech’s powerful voice and her stunning ability to modulate. On April 8, Beady Belle will delight its audience with a grooving sextet, set up to also perform vocal arrangements. Lech and Reksjø will be accompanied by keyboarder Bjarne Gustavsen, drummer Bjørn Sæther and background singers Anja Martine Mørk as well as Sofie Tollefsbøl.

With their powerful rock fusion, cellist Matthias Bartolomey and violinist Klemens Bittmann will show how to combine and further develop traditional Austrian string music and jazz improvisation. Hailing from the Austrian city of Graz, Bittmann studied classical violin as well as jazz violin with Didier Lockwood and made his name as a creative mind willing to transcend borders as founder of the ensembles Beefólk und Folksmilch. Vienna-born Bartolomey is generally known for his classical work including as solo cellist of Concentus Musicus – this collaboration “is a release of energy nursed over a long period of time”. At BMW Welt, the duo BartolomeyBittmann will showcase its outstanding and progressive skills as string players on April 22.

About BMW Group’s Cultural Commitment
For almost 50 years now, the BMW Group has initiated and engaged in over 100 cultural cooperations worldwide. The company places the main focus of its long-term commitment on contemporary and modern art, classical music and jazz as well as architecture and design. In 1972, three large-scale paintings were created by the artist Gerhard Richter specifically for the foyer of the BMW Group's Munich headquarters. Since then, artists such as Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Daniel Barenboim, Jonas Kaufmann and architect Zaha Hadid have co-operated with BMW. In 2016 and 2017, female artist Cao Fei from China and American John Baldessari created the next two vehicles for the BMW Art Car Collection. Besides co-initiatives, such as BMW Tate Live, the BMW Art Journey and the “Opera for All” concerts in Berlin, Munich and London, the company also partners with leading museums and art fairs as well as orchestras and opera houses around the world. The BMW Group takes absolute creative freedom in all its cultural activities – as this initiative is as essential for producing groundbreaking artistic work as it is for major innovations in a successful business.

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures is also available at www.bmw.de/wltp.

For further details of the official fuel consumption figures and official specific CO2 emissions of new cars, please refer to the “Manual on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new cars”, available at sales outlets free of charge, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
