For the fifth year running BMW and the musée Nicéphore Niépce are organising a call for applications for the BMW Residence at the musée Nicéphore Niépce where a young photographer is given the chance to work on a photography project during a three-month stay in Chalon-sur-Saône.
BMW has been supporting photography since 2003. It is an active partner of Paris Photo and the Rencontres d’Arles, and it stepped up its commitment in 2011 with the establishment of an artist-in-residence programme. The intention for BMW is to stimulate creation and encourage the emergence of new talent providing exceptional visibility among professionals and the general public.
After Alexandra Catiere, Marion Gronier, Mazaccio & Drowilal and Natasha Caruana, François Cheval, the curator of the musée Nicéphore Niépce and his entire team will accompany the awardee during the residency from September 7th to November 27th 2015.
A selection of the work produced during the residency will be shown at two major photography events in France sponsored by BMW: Les Rencontres d’Arles and Paris Photo.
A film depicting the creative journey and universe of the awardee will be directed by François Goizé and shown during the exhibitions.
Finally, a book, published in tandem with the Editions Trocadéro will show all of the work carried out during the residency. It will be added to the “BMW Art & Culture” collection that was set up with the publishing company at the start of the residency programme and presents the work of the chosen artists each year.
In order to have a clear mind to work, the awardee will also be given a grant of 6 000 € and their accommodation will be provided in Chalon-sur-Saône for the three months of the residency at the musée Nicéphore Niépce.
Applications must include a CV, a dossier that presents the artist’s general approach and a summary of the specific project planned for the residency.
They should be sent by post to the musée Nicéphore Niépce before April 15th 2015.
A short list of 10 applications will be made by the musée Nicéphore Niépce and will then be analysed by a jury made up of François Cheval, Curator at the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, Sam Stourdzé the Director of Rencontres d’Arles, the Director of Paris Photo, Damien Bachelot, collector, Chantal Nedjib, President of Image par l’Image, Maryse Bataillard, head of Cultural Patronage at BMW France.
