Nürburgring (DE), 26th September 2015. At the Nürburgring (DE) on Saturday, a BMW driver was added to the DTM list of winners for the fifth time this season: Maxime Martin (BE) delivered a flawless performance in the SAMSUNG BMW M4 DTM and secured his second DTM victory. His team-mate at BMW Team RMG, Marco Wittmann (DE, Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM), and António Félix da Costa (PT, Red Bull BMW M4 DTM) also picked up points in seventh and ninth places.

Read here what BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, BMW Team RMG team principal Stefan Reinhold and the BMW DTM drivers had to say after the 15th race of the season at the Nürburgring.

Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director): “That was an extremely strong race by Maxime Martin. He was clear, commanding and dominant, and it was a great pleasure to watch him during this race. It was also a mini anniversary victory for us: The BMW M4 DTM got its tenth win. I'm also pleased for BMW Team RMG. Just like last year, it got another home win here. Naturally I would have hoped that the race would have gone differently for Bruno Spengler. In second place he was unable to keep up with the speed of Maxime, the rivals chasing him were in his DRS window. He battled well, but in the end was forced to retire early with damage to his car and a flat tyre. Marco Wittmann and António Félix da Costa both had a strong race. They were able to keep out of everything and pick up valuable points with flawless performances. We are looking ahead now. We were competitive here today and want to reinforce that tomorrow.”

Maxime Martin (BMW Team RMG, 1st place): “I am extremely happy with my second DTM win. BMW Team RMG did a fantastic job and gave me a perfect car. But it wasn't an easy race. I didn't get off to the best start, but was able to assert myself in the first corner and pull away from the pack. However, towards the end of the race I was having problems with my tyres. I had to fight because my rivals had caught up. But everything went well today, and I finally made it back onto the top of the podium after the race in Moscow last year.”

Stefan Reinhold (BMW Team RMG, team principal): “Today was definitely an RMG Saturday. We put a lot of thought into our home event ahead of the weekend. I told my guys that the Nürburgring has always been good to us, and that proved true once again today. Maxime Martin was by far the fastest man in the field. Just like at his first win in Moscow, he delivered a fantastic performance. Marco Wittmann drove another clever race and was able to pick up points. However, I felt a bit sorry for him that we weren't able to push him further up the field in qualifying. But, despite that, we can be more than happy with today. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.”

Marco Wittmann (BMW Team RMG, 7th place): “It was a very turbulent and exciting race. There were lots of duels, cars coming into contact and accidents. I dropped down the field slightly at the start, but then I made up six places in one lap. Ultimately we can be pleased with how the race ended. Maxime Martin won at our home event. Congratulations to him and the team. I finished seventh. That is a good team result. Now we have to make sure that I do better in qualifying tomorrow, so that we can go on full attack once again. Overall today was a lot of fun.”

António Félix da Costa (BMW Team Schnitzer, 9th place): “The race was a great deal of fun. After the qualifying session that was what our goal was: to drive a good race. Picking up points after starting from 20th on the grid isn't bad at all. Tomorrow we will follow Maxime Martin's lead and do even better.”

Timo Glock (BMW Team MTEK, 16th place): “I think that the fans watched an interesting race. We had difficulty in qualifying. Well done to my team, the car really was fantastic, but I didn't manage to get a good lap. Naturally it isn't easy starting from 18th. After the race was red-flagged, the guys kept cool heads and worked extremely well. Then when the race restarted the car was okay, but I wasn't able to attack. Now we have to look at what caused this and then go on the attack again in the second qualifying session tomorrow.”

Augusto Farfus (BMW Team RBM, 18th place): “I had to return to the pits because my door was still open after the restart. Obviously that wasn't ideal. We would definitely have been able to pick up points today. But these things happen in motorsport. At least we kept going and were able to see how the car performs on the track. We were able to gather important information for tomorrow.”

Tom Blomqvist (BMW Team RBM, DNF): “I didn't start particularly well, but I was able to get myself into a good starting position for the first and second corners. However, several other cars hit me and first pushed me into Jamie Green and then into Daniel Juncadella. After that the front of my car was so badly damaged that I had to retire early. The car couldn't be driven.”

Bruno Spengler (BMW Team MTEK, DNF): “Naturally I am extremely disappointed that the incident with Edoardo Mortara cost me the race. I was already in the corner, so was unable to let him just go through. If I hadn't been in this position, he wouldn't have made the corner. My car was so badly damaged by the collision that it was impossible to continue. There were other incidents later on, but they didn't have much of an effect. Overall our performance wasn't good enough. We'll definitely have to do better tomorrow. Today's race was total chaos.”

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures is also available at www.bmw.de/wltp.

For further details of the official fuel consumption figures and official specific CO2 emissions of new cars, please refer to the “Manual on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new cars”, available at sales outlets free of charge, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
