Moscow (RU), 30th August 2015. BMW Motorsport enjoyed a successful DTM weekend in Moscow (RU) with three podium finishes and several other top-ten drives. In Saturday’s race, Marco Wittmann (DE) and Bruno Spengler (CA) finished second and third in Saturday’s race. Wittmann had started from pole position in the Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM. Tom Blomqvist came home eighth to finish in the points for the second time in his rookie season.

On Sunday, Spengler was the best of the BMW drivers, coming home second to claim his best result of the DTM season so far. Maxime Martin (BE) and Wittmann finished fourth and seventh for BMW Team RMG.

Read here what BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt and the eight BMW DTM drivers had to say after the sixth race weekend of the season in Moscow.

Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director): “We can be happy with our outing here in Moscow. After two podiums yesterday, Bruno Spengler finished a very impressive second today. Unfortunately he was not quite able to make it onto the very top step. Maxime Martin battled hard to finish fourth and score some good points. Marco Wittmann was our third car in the top ten, finishing seventh. This racetrack has been a happy stomping ground for us: since Moscow has been included in the race calendar, we have always finished on the podium here. After three race weekends in a row abroad, we are now looking forward to the final third of the season in Germany. Congratulations to Mike Rockenfeller and Audi.”

Bruno Spengler (BMW Team MTEK, Sun.: 2nd place, Sat.: 3rd place): “After my third place yesterday, that was a fantastic result. Thank you very much to my team. The team was able to make even more significant improvements to the car, which allowed me to clock consistent lap times today. I am happy to have scored a lot of points in Russia, thanks to my two podium finishes. Unfortunately I was held up by Lucas Auer in the middle of the race – as were a few other drivers. Fortunately I was able to overtake him and then hang on to second place.”

Maxime Martin (BMW Team RMG, Sun.: 4th place, Sat.: 18th place): “The race was great fun, but it was very tough. The Audis were very strong, particularly on the long run. Then we were blocked by Lucas Auer. But that’s life. Fourth place is not a bad result and scores us a few points. I still like Moscow, although more on a Sunday than a Saturday.”

Marco Wittmann (BMW Team RMG, Sun.: 7th place, Sat.: 2nd place): “Unfortunately I could do no better than seventh today. We didn’t get it together in qualifying and got stuck in traffic with the second set of tyres. Otherwise we could have been challenging for pole position. On Saturday I had a slow puncture towards the end of the race – otherwise we could have done even better then too. After the weekend in Spielberg, things went much better for us here in Moscow. Therefore, it was definitely worth the trip to Russia.”

Augusto Farfus (BMW Team RBM, Sun.: 11th place, Sat.: 15th place): “Our pace was simply not good enough. We had problems yesterday and spent the entire weekend trying to find a good balance for the car. We were a bit better today, but unfortunately we were chasing the game from the start of the weekend. We were playing catch up, and could not improve enough. Hopefully it will be a different story in Oschersleben.”

Tom Blomqvist (BMW Team RBM, Sun.: 12th place, Sat.: 8th place): “It was a bit like yesterday. We were lacking pace in the race. Once you drop outside the DRS window it is really tough. We will have to analyse what happened and improve our race pace. At least we finished in the points yesterday, and our performances in qualifying were not so bad. We must now ensure we improve in the races.”

Timo Glock (BMW Team MTEK, Sun.: 17th place, Sat.: DNF): “It was a difficult race. The rear axle was very nervous from the first lap to the last. At times I felt like I was only driving sideways. It has not been a good weekend for us. We must now move on from Moscow and prepare for Oschersleben.”

António Félix da Costa (BMW Team Schnitzer, Sun.: 23rd place, Sat.: 11th place): “That was a race – or rather a weekend – to forget. Even on Saturday things did not go our way, but at least I was in the middle of the field. On Sunday we were never at the races, neither in qualifying or the race. We must now pull ourselves together and make sure we are ready for Oschersleben.”

Martin Tomczyk (BMW Team Schnitzer, Sun.: DNF, Sat.: 17th place): “For me, that was one of the most difficult DTM weekends of my career. We could not set any good times and had absolutely no chance. We must now find the reasons for this and adjust as quickly as possible. The trip to Moscow has been hugely disappointing for me.”

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures is also available at www.bmw.de/wltp.

For further details of the official fuel consumption figures and official specific CO2 emissions of new cars, please refer to the “Manual on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new cars”, available at sales outlets free of charge, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
