Indianapolis 8 Hour: BMW M Motorsport sends two BMW M works drivers into the race.

From 8th to 10th October, the Indianapolis 8 Hour (USA) will serve as the season finale for both the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS. Three BMW M4 GT3 EVOs will be on the starting grid at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Turner Motorsport will compete in the top Pro category with the #29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. The cockpit will be shared by the two regular drivers in the GT World Challenge America, BMW M works driver Robby Foley and Justin Rothberg, together with the second BMW M works driver Connor De Phillippi (all USA). Foley and Rothberg are still fighting for the Pro title in the GT World Challenge America. In the Intercontinental GT Challenge, BMW M Motorsport is in third place in the manufacturers’ standings and has no chance to defend last year’s title. The other two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs will be fielded by Riley Technologies and Random Vandals Racing in the Pro-Am class.

SRO America (25th-27th September): Wins and podiums for the BMW M4 GT4 EVO.

The penultimate race weekend of the SRO America series took place at Barber Motorsports Park (USA). In the GT World Challenge America, Robby Foley and Justin Rothberg (both USA) in the #29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO narrowly missed the podium in the Pro category, finishing fourth. Nevertheless, the duo still has a chance at the title in the season finale, the Indianapolis 8 Hour (USA). “We collected valuable points here. Even though we just missed the podium, we still have a chance in the title fight when we head to Indy,” said Foley. “We’ll try to use our momentum from the Indy win in the IMSA Series and have another good weekend.” Just over a week ago, Turner Motorsport won with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO in the GTD class of the IMSA Series.

Things went very well for the BMW M Motorsport teams in GT4 America. Sam Craven and Kenton Koch (both USA) won the Pro-Am category in both races in the #94 BMW M4 GT4 EVO from Random Vandals Racing. In the overall standings, the duo finished second and third on the podium. In the Silver category, second and third place in the first race went to the BMW M4 GT4 EVO. Francis Selldorff and Kevin Boehm (both USA) finished second for Auto Technic Racing, while BMW M Racing Academy member Josh Green and Bruno Colombo (both USA) finished third for Random Vandals Racing. In the Am class, Joseph and Lucas Catania (both USA) finished second for Rigid Speed Company in Race 1. Third place in both races went to Kris Wilson and Zach Lumsden (both USA) from Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard. In GT America, Lumsden added a first and second place in the GT4 class to his positive record, securing the GT4 title ahead of schedule.

Shanghai 8 Hours (25th-27th September): Victory for Team KRC and BMW M works driver Max Hesse.

BMW M works driver Max Hesse (GER) had another successful outing for Team KRC last weekend. At the Shanghai 8 Hours (CHN), he claimed victory in the #18 BMW M4 GT3 EVO together with his teammates Zhang Mingyang and Zhang Zhendong (both CHN), winning convincingly with a margin of around 1:30 minutes. “This was a very successful weekend for my debut in Shanghai,” said Hesse. “My new teammates were very easy to work with, and we got along really well. In the race, we actually had a slightly better pace than expected and made it through without any major drama. I am very happy for Team KRC that, after the disappointment at the Suzuka 1000KM, they were able to celebrate victory this time.” It was Team KRC’s debut at the event. Third place in both the Silver-Am and Am classes went to the two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs from GAHA Racing.

M News compact: More victories and podium finishes.

British GT Championship (25th-27th September): At the season finale in Brands Hatch (GBR), Century Motorsport celebrated an overall podium and a class win with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Jonathon Beeson and Charles Clark (both GBR) finished third in car number 80 and simultaneously won the Silver-Am category. In the drivers’ standings of their category, they ended the season in second place.

ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team takes important step forward at Cremona.

Cremona. The hard work has paid off. At the tenth round of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) season at Cremona (ITA), the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team made an important step forward. Following a difficult weekend at Magny-Cours, France, three weeks ago, BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the team have now succeeded in improving the performance of both BMW M 1000 RRs once again. Miguel Oliveira (POR) was running in fifth position after a strong start in Sunday’s second race, while Danilo Petrucci (ITA) impressed with strong comebacks through the field.

Saturday morning’s Superpole qualifying was something of a lottery as several riders crashed, and the resulting yellow flags repeatedly interrupted the others’ pursuit of fast lap times. That also affected the two BMW Motorrad factory riders, who consequently did not always have a clear track. At the end of the session, Oliveira and Petrucci had qualified ninth and 19th respectively.

In Saturday afternoon’s first main race, Petrucci finished 14th to score two points. Oliveira was one of several riders who slid and crashed out. In Sunday morning’s Superpole Race, Oliveira finished eighth, improving his position on the grid for the second main race. Petrucci made up numerous positions in the ten-lap sprint and took the chequered flag in 11th place. In the second main race, Oliveira worked his way into the top five after a strong start. However, he then crashed and was unable to convert the potential into the corresponding result. Petrucci once again battled his way through the field with determined overtakes and finished the weekend in 12th place.

Two race weekends remain in the final stages of the season. The action continues from 9th to 11th October at Estoril, Portugal, followed one week later (16th to 18th October) by the season finale at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Reactions after the Cremona round.

Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport: “Here at Cremona, we found our way back in the right direction, and the weekend gives us reason for optimism. With Miguel, we could have achieved top-five finishes if it had not been for the crashes. Now we need to continue working on making sure that he can convert this into race results. Danilo is also heading in the right direction, even though we are not yet where we want to be. The most important thing is that both riders are focusing towards the front again. That gives the entire team a boost, but we also know that there is still a lot of work ahead of us. Congratulations to Ducati and Nicolò Bulega on winning the title early. He is a worthy champion and has had an incredible season. We will give everything to make the championship exciting again next year.”

Danilo Petrucci, ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team: “It was really nice to race in Italy again. The weekend started with difficulties but we gave our maximum. In Sunday’s races, my last ones at home, I made quite a lot of overtakes. The race wasn’t the best, but I fought really, really hard. That’s what I enjoy. I want to thank everyone who came here to cheer for me, and all the BMW crew who are always pushing – they’re the best. I’d like to finish the season strong. I can’t wait to go to the next race; we’ve been testing at Estoril so let’s push there.”

Miguel Oliveira, ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team: “Cremona was a tough pill to swallow, especially race two. We had a really good pace and track position to achieve an excellent result. Unfortunately, in Turn 10, I took a little more rear brake, the bike started to chatter, and I couldn’t stay on top of it. It’s frustrating, but I think we’re in a better position than we were after Magny-Cours, so that’s already good. It would have been nice to go to my home race with some momentum from a good result, but this won’t take away our determination to have a very good weekend for the Portuguese fans. I’m looking forward to it.”

Ethiopian victories at the 2026 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON – the new BMW i3 makes its ‘racing debut’.

Berlin. In ideal weather conditions, it looked as though the 15th edition of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON with title partner BMW would see a world record set for the seventh time, right up until shortly before the end of the women’s race. At the 40-kilometre mark, Tigst Assefa was still well on course for a world record, before the Ethiopian began to struggle with muscle problems. Visibly in pain, the 29-year-old lost a minute and a half on her way to the finish line, but still set a course record (2:11:04 hours) and celebrated her third victory at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, following her wins in 2022 and 2023. Bedatu Hirpa (2:16:53) and Dera Dida (2:16:55) completed the hat-trick for Ethiopia. In the men’s race, too, the numerous Ethiopian fans lining the home straight had cause to cheer, as Guye Adola won in a personal best of 2:02:50 hours, well ahead of Gemechu Dida Diriba (ETH, 2:03:19) and Gabriel Gerald Geay (TAN, 2:03:59). For the 35-year-old, it was his second victory in Berlin following his win in 2021. The fastest German runners were Haftom Welday (2:08:25, 16th place) and Anna Langerwisch (2:27:31, personal best, 16th place).

At the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, one of the world’s seven most prestigious marathons – the World Marathon Majors – there was another endurance specialist on the course: the new BMW i3, as the lead vehicle for the men’s race. The first all-electric BMW 3 Series is the second model in the Neue Klasse and represents a technological quantum leap into a new era. With an all-electric range of up to 906 kilometres*, the new BMW i3 could complete all World Marathon Majors in a two-and-a-half-year period without the need to recharge.

Alongside the new BMW i3, the all-electric BMW iX3, BMW iX, BMW i5 and BMW i4 models also took to the course at the BMW BERLIN MARATHON as organisational vehicles, whilst 350 BMW Group employees from around the world completed the marathon. In total, more than 84,000 people from 162 nations took part in the various sporting events over the weekend – both figures are records and underline the character of the BMW BERLIN MARATHON as an international sporting event that brings people together. This international focus also characterises the BMW Group as a company where employees from over 110 nations work together worldwide within a global organisation.

FIA WEC: BMW M Team WRT claims another podium at Fuji - #32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO wins in LMGT3.

Fuji. BMW M Team WRT celebrated its fifth podium of the season at the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). Kevin Magnussen (DEN), Raffaele Marciello (SUI) and Dries Vanthoor (BEL) finished third in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 at the 6 Hours of Fuji (JPN) after a flawless performance. In the LMGT3 category, the Team WRT #32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO claimed victory after BMW M works driver Augusto Farfus (BRA) delivered an outstanding drive in the closing stages to fight his way from sixth place to the win.

After qualifying was cancelled due to heavy rain, the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 started the race at Fuji Speedway from 14th on the grid. Thanks to flawless performances from Magnussen, Marciello and Vanthoor, combined with a strong strategy, the trio worked its way into the top ten step by step. A safety car period in the final hour then moved BMW M Team WRT into podium contention, with Vanthoor eventually bringing the car home in third place for car #15’s third podium of the season.

Their teammates, meanwhile, leave Fuji with a difficult weekend behind them. The #20 Shell BMW M Hybrid V8 of René Rast (GER), Robin Frijns (NED) and Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) dropped well down the order after several contacts through no fault of their own after almost two hours and eventually finished 13th. Rast and Frijns, who travelled to Fuji as the championship leaders, now occupy third place in the drivers’ standings, directly ahead of Magnussen and Marciello. BMW M Motorsport retained second place in the manufacturers’ standings.

Darren Leung (GBR) and Sean Gelael (INA) quickly brought the #32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from 14th on the grid into the fight for the LMGT3 podium positions. The final safety car period initially dropped Farfus back to sixth place, but the Brazilian delivered a brilliant finish and led Team WRT to its second LMGT3 victory of the season with a series of spectacular overtakes. The sister car had triumphed at Imola.

The #69 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, meanwhile, endured a bitter Sunday at Fuji. Dan Harper (GBR), Parker Thompson (CAN) and Anthony McIntosh (USA) led the LMGT3 category at one point, but after the final safety car period and an unfortunate pit stop, they ultimately had to settle for sixth place.

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “Overall, it has been a difficult weekend. After qualifying was cancelled, we did not have ideal starting positions with either of the two Hypercars. Nevertheless, we managed to work our way forwards in the race. Car #20 also made strong progress, but was then dropped well down the order by several contacts through no fault of its own, which is a great shame. The #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 drove a very strong race. To make it onto the podium from such an unfavourable starting position is an impressive achievement, and I am very pleased with it. We have now lost some ground in the championship, but we will keep fighting. Everything is still open. We are absolutely delighted with car #32’s LMGT3 victory. It was a very well-deserved success, and it is really great to see the BMW M4 GT3 EVO back in the winner’s circle.“

Vincent Vosse (Team Principal BMW M Team WRT): "It was a tough weekend as usual here at Fuji. Starting far back with the Hypercars put us on the backfoot, of course. Unfortunately, we had contact with car #20, which put us one lap behind. We came back, but we were too far off as we had lost too much time. Great strategy from car #15, great drive from the drivers, and finally we got to P3. Considering where we started, that looks very good. In LMGT3, we had a very strong race until the last pit stop, where we had an issue which made us lose time on both cars. But then we had a flying stint from Augusto, who drove from P6 to the lead. That was an incredible drive. Thanks to him for giving us the victory."

Kevin Magnussen (BMW M Team WRT, #15 BMW M Hybrid V8, 3rd place): "It is a great result for us. The great work of the pitwall and the pitstop crew made the difference today. We didn’t have the pace to finish on the podium, but we still did. We kept it clean all race, so it was a great job by the team today and congrats to everyone."

Sheldon van der Linde (BMW M Team WRT, #20 Shell BMW M Hybrid V8, 13th place): “It was a difficult day for us. We were at the wrong place at the wrong time today. We would have had the pace to at least be in the top ten and score some points. That’s why this one really hurts. To lose the lead in the championship for Robin and René is a shame. But the to upcoming races should be good for us so we hope to bounce back stronger than today. We have an awesome team around us and we will be back.“

Berlin. This weekend, the capital city will once again be the setting for the largest marathon event in Germany. Well over 80,000 participants from all around the world, the handbike and wheelchair races, and runners and racers in amateur and elite fields all make the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON into a truly diverse, top-class sporting event. BMW is supporting one of the world’s fastest marathons as title partner for the 15th time, helping to ensure successful execution with all-electric on-course vehicles.

The new, all-electric BMW i3 will accompany the men’s elite group as lead car in one of its first active appearances. As the second model in the Neue Klasse, the new BMW i3 heralds the start of a thrilling new era of driving pleasure for BMW. The car is being manufactured in the BMW Group parent plant in Munich and delivery is scheduled to begin this year.

As the second model in the Neue Klasse, the new BMW i3 represents a technological quantum leap into a new era. In the first all-electric BMW 3 Series, the highly efficient sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, together with the new BMW Panoramic iDrive and Heart of Joy, delivers driving pleasure on a level never experienced before. With BMW Symbiotic Drive, the assisted driving experience is also entering a new era. The BMW i3 also stands for a modern interpretation of the hallmark design features of a BMW Sedan.

Sportiness and driving pleasure are embedded deep in the DNA of the BMW 3 Series. The new BMW i3 sets new standards. Maximising the unmatched capabilities of electromobility, it offers impressively precise, effortless and assured handling. The Heart of Joy high-performance computer shapes the BMW i3 driving experience. Its responses are ten times faster than in previous systems. Together with three other high-performance computers, the Heart of Joy forms the centrepiece of the new software and electronics architecture.

A total of 60 course and organisational vehicles will be in action at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Alongside the new BMW i3 and the BMW iX3, the all-electric BMW iX, BMW i5, BMW i4, BMW iX2 and BMW iX1 models will ensure that everything runs smoothly. The BMW Group is also providing the organisers with 14 BMW motorcycles and two BMW e-scooters. The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON is a home event for the two-wheelers, as iconic BMW motorcycles have been manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Berlin since 1969.

BMW Group receives prestigious technology award for Gen6 high-voltage battery in China

Munich/Haikou. The BMW Group has received the “Global New Energy Vehicle Innovative Technology” award at the 2026 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC) in China. The judges recognised the key technologies of the BMW Gen6 high-voltage battery based on the new BMW round cells with a high-nickel cathode. In doing so, they paid tribute to the BMW Group’s innovative achievements in the field of electric drive technologies and its holistic approach to the development of high-voltage batteries. The BMW Group is the only automotive manufacturer from outside China to receive one of the WNEVC’s prestigious technology awards.

The Gen6 high-voltage battery reflects the BMW Group’s comprehensive battery expertise, bringing together the company’s own development and production expertise across the entire value chain – from cell chemistry and the development and production of the high-voltage battery through to its integration into the vehicle. As a key technology of the Neue Klasse, it lays the foundation for greater range, faster charging and a new dimension of long-distance electric capabilities. The award was presented during the WNEVC, one of the world’s leading platforms for the future of electromobility. This marks the fifth consecutive year – and the sixth time overall – that the BMW Group has been recognised for technological innovation at the congress.

A technological leap for the Neue Klasse

The sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology forms the technological foundation of the Neue Klasse and will be introduced gradually across the BMW Group’s entire fully-electric portfolio. In making the leap from the fifth to the sixth generation, the BMW Group filed patent applications for more than 500 innovations.

“The Gen6 high-voltage battery represents a technological leap across all customer-relevant features. Its innovative, flat design with cylindrical cells paves the way for greater range and faster charging, while maintaining the highest level of safety. The fundamentally new high-voltage battery concept combines the new BMW round cells, the in-house-developed Energy Master hardware and software, and the systematic integration of the battery into the vehicle architecture to create a holistic system. This allows range, charging speed, efficiency, sustainability and driving dynamics to be refined and optimised together as an integrated system.

The entire Gen6 high-voltage battery portfolio is designed for an 800-volt architecture and enables bidirectional charging capabilities. The cells are integrated directly into the high-voltage battery without a module structure. This cell-to-pack design enables high energy density at battery level and ensures efficient use of the available installation space.

Innovation across the entire value chain

Safety was the highest priority in the development of the Gen6 high-voltage battery. The new round cells feature a steel housing and integrated safety mechanisms. The BMW Group’s in-house cell expertise also ensures continuous scientific and technical validation throughout the entire development process. The high-voltage battery features a multi-stage insulation concept, as well as comprehensive thermal and energy management.

Another element of this innovation is the Energy Master, with both hardware and software developed in-house by BMW. Mounted on the high-voltage battery, it manages the energy flow, supplies power to the e-drives and the vehicle’s electrical system, and serves as the interface for data from the high-voltage battery. It therefore ensures efficient and safe battery operation. In conjunction with the available installation space and vehicle interfaces, it also provides flexibility: It is compatible with both 400-volt and 800-volt charging infrastructure and enables bidirectional charging. At the same time, the overall system has been designed for technology openness, allowing other cell technologies to be integrated.

Created by A.A.Murakami with inspiration drawn from BMW’s Neue Klasse vision, the “SYMBIOSIS” installation is showcased alongside the new BMW 7 Series at the 21st edition of Contemporary Istanbul. Following its appearance at Art Basel, “SYMBIOSIS” – signed by the Tokyo- and London-based artist duo Azusa Murakami (JP) and Alexander Groves (UK) – arrives at Tersane Istanbul during Contemporary Istanbul with a VIP Preview on 23 September and Public Days from 24 to 27 September.

A.A.Murakami’s “Ephemeral Tech” approach, which merges technology with physical and natural processes, intersects with BMW’s Neue Klasse vision of driving centered on interaction between human and machine. SYMBIOSIS takes its name from the biological concept describing two distinct organisms living together. In the installation, sculptural, engineered forms unite with transient physical elements such as light, mist, and bubbles. Shaped by natural forces like airflow, temperature, gravity, and chance, it delivers an ever-evolving experience that reflects A.A.Murakami’s philosophy of tying technology directly to physical reality.

SYMBIOSIS also elevates BMW’s “BMW Symbiotic Drive” concept into an artistic dimension. BMW 3 Series combines product sustainability and short distances within site cluster

Munich. With the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, the BMW Group is systematically extending its holistic approach to sustainability to the fully-electric variant and combustion-engine model. From the supply chain and production, through to the use phase and recycling, key levers have been optimised with the aim of reducing the CO₂e footprint throughout the vehicle lifecycle. The Bavarian production cluster plays an important role in this: Plants Dingolfing, Landshut, Irlbach-Straßkirchen and Munich bring together core expertise, reduce transport distances and efficiently integrate specialised production steps.

Focus on supply chain decarbonisation

The supply chain is a key lever for reducing CO₂e emissions. In this area, the BMW Group relies, in particular, on renewable energy and higher secondary material content, as well as product and process innovations. The measures are systematically applied to all drive train variants of the new BMW 3 Series. Already during the product development phase, supply chain CO₂e emissions were reduced by around 37 percent for the BMW i3 and by around 30 percent[1] for the variant with an internal combustion engine. A particular focus is on battery cells and the use of aluminium.
The Gen6 battery cells for the BMW i3 rely on secondary materials for a portion of their cobalt, lithium and nickel. The BMW Group also uses renewable energy in the production of anode and cathode materials, as well as in cell manufacturing. In comparison with the Gen5 cell in the BMW i4, the CO₂e footprint per watt-hour was reduced by approx. 33 percent.

Systematic use of secondary materials

Measures implemented in the supply chain and at the company’s own facilities enable a high secondary material content in the new BMW 3 Series – also for heavy-duty components. These include aluminium suspension components such as wheel rims, swivel bearings and wheel supports, which rely on electricity from renewable sources for both electrolysis and production. Secondary material is also used for the car body: The bonnet is made of approximately 70 percent recycled aluminium. In the battery-electric BMW i3 50 xDrive, around 31 percent of the total vehicle consists of secondary materials; in the BMW 3 Series with internal combustion engine, the share is around 25 percent[1].

BMW Group sites combine sustainability with specialisation

The Dingolfing, Landshut, Irlbach-Straßkirchen and Munich facilities pool core expertise within the Bavarian production cluster. Short transport distances and closely integrated processes unlock potential for reducing CO₂e emissions.

“The cluster approach to BMW production is directly linked to the concept of sustainability: Short distances and close proximity are key characteristics of a cluster, creating direct economic, environmental and social sustainability benefits through regional networking and concentration. A regional production cluster, like at BMW, creates added value for the economy, people, the environment and, of course, the region,” explains Prof Dr Rudolf Juchelka, Chair of Economic Geography, especially Transport and Logistics at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Landshut: Light metal and components expertise

BMW Group Plant Landshut is the company’s largest component plant worldwide and a centre of in-house manufacturing expertise. The light metal foundry produces parts for electric drive trains, as well as engine components such as crankcases and cylinder heads. For the new BMW 3 Series, the facility is also manufacturing the e-drive housing for the rear axle of the fully-electric variant, alongside crankcases and cylinder heads for the combustion-engine model. The corresponding drive trains are produced at BMW Group Plant Steyr in Austria, which has been a source of drive train expertise within the production network for over 40 years.

The Landshut site combines long-standing aluminium and foundry know-how with specific sustainability measures, such as using aluminium from recycling loops and material produced in part with electricity from renewable sources. In-house component manufacturing strengthens material expertise, conserves resources and supports close integration of production processes.

Irlbach-Straßkirchen: “Local for local” high-voltage batteries

Construction of the new assembly site for sixth-generation high-voltage batteries at Plant Irlbach-Straßkirchen got underway in spring 2024. In line with the “local for local” principle, the plant will supply high-voltage batteries for the BMW i3 from October 2026. This strengthens regional structures, reduces transport distances and helps secure jobs. At the same time, close cooperation between the German pilot plants and series production facilities worldwide supports the global production network. Key components for the BMW i3 will be manufactured close to vehicle production and transported to Munich on electric trucks.

The plant requires no fossil fuels for regular operations. A photovoltaic system generates a share of the electricity required directly on site. All additional energy needed is supplied entirely from renewable sources. The process is designed so that no water is required for assembling the high-voltage batteries. In this way, the site is combining the industrialisation of electromobility with lower emissions and resource-efficient production.

Munich: Transformation towards the BMW iFACTORY

BMW Group Plant Munich produces vehicles for the Neue Klasse, following the principles of the BMW iFACTORY, with a focus on efficiency, digitalisation and sustainability. The site obtains all the external power it requires from renewable sources. The plant is also committed to responsible use of resources – for example, through the material loop in the press shop: Steel and aluminium scrap generated while punching body parts is collected and separated by material type, recycled and subsequently used to manufacture new coils.

Dingolfing: Renewable energy and process heat

BMW Group Plant Dingolfing combines efficient production processes with close integration with the surrounding component sites. All purchased electricity comes from renewable sources, with a portion generated directly on site. Since late 2025, a photovoltaic system on the plant's roof, with a capacity of just under 11 megawatt peak, has supplied electricity for the site.

A new biomass heating plant west of the vehicle plant also provides up to 100,000 megawatt hours of locally-produced heat from renewable energy sources. In this way, the facility can meet about half of its process heat requirements.

Efficiency during use phase

With its EfficientDynamics technology package, the BMW Group optimises vehicle efficiency across all relevant subsystems. This includes aerodynamics, lightweight construction, low rolling resistance tyres and overall energy management. EfficientDynamics has been used by the BMW Group across all drive technologies since 2007. The new fully-electric BMW i3 also features the “Heart of Joy”, with the fully in-house developed BMW Dynamic Performance Control Driving Stack. The system enables effortless and confident drivability, with highly controlled deceleration to a standstill. At the same time, it enhances efficiency: During deceleration, more energy is recovered through recuperation – in significantly more driving situations, right down to a standstill. Gen6 drive technology components are also systematically optimised for efficiency.

Using so-called SiC technology in the electric drive units, it was possible to reduce energy losses by up to 40 percent.

Transparency through TÜV-verified Product Carbon Footprint

The BMW Group will publish the Product Carbon Footprint for the BMW 3 Series, validated by the German Technical Inspection Association (TÜV), to coincide with the series launch. The report, including the underlying calculation methodology and methods, will be publicly available. In this way, the BMW Group creates transparency around the raw materials used and CO₂e emissions throughout the vehicle’s entire lifecycle.

The Product Carbon Footprint for individual components and materials is calculated in accordance with the Catena-X rules. The data ecosystem enables standardised data exchange, with traceability of emissions data throughout the value chain – from the extraction of raw materials to the end product.

BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026 Romania: The adventure in the Carpathians has been decided.

Colțești, Romania. After six days of riding, around 1,500 kilometres and an exceptionally demanding route through the Romanian Carpathians, the tenth BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy has been decided. Team Germany (Fabi Fenner, Norman Pleissner, Flo Thomann) won the men’s competition with 203 points, while Team Europe (Chrissie Harcourt, Anja Filak) prevailed in the women’s competition with 200 points. The anniversary edition went farther, higher and was more technical than ever before – across narrow forest trails, washed-out mountain paths, riverbeds and historic high-altitude routes. At the same time, it remained true to what defines the GS Trophy: a shared adventure in which team spirit, precision, endurance and mutual support matter more than outright speed.

The outcome was decided only in the final challenge. Ahead of the last day, just two points separated Team International and Team Europe in the women’s competition, while Team Germany defended an eleven-point lead over Team Europe in the men’s competition. Under maximum pressure, the eventual winners demonstrated precisely the qualities that defined this GS Trophy: trust, composure and consistent teamwork.

In the women’s final, Chrissie Harcourt from Great Britain and Anja Filak from the Netherlands rode with control and close coordination to secure victory for Team Europe. Team Germany, comprising Fabian Fenner, Norman Pleissner and Florian Thomann, crowned a consistently strong performance throughout the week with overall victory in the men’s competition.

Teamwork makes the dream work.

The winners of the women’s competition, Team Europe, had not known each other before this event: one came from Wales in the United Kingdom, the other from the Netherlands. Over the course of the event, they grew together as a team and, with mutual support, overcame every obstacle on their way to victory.

What made the 2026 GS Trophy special.

The tenth edition set new benchmarks: six days, around 1,500 kilometres and approximately half of the route away from paved roads. For three consecutive days, the teams spent eleven to twelve hours on the move; day three featured more than 300 kilometres, including 170 kilometres of trails. Cold temperatures, dense fog, wet camps and constantly changing terrain made recovery and personal organisation just as important as riding skill.

The most formidable challenges awaited high in the Carpathians: the eight-kilometre Metzeler Enduro Navigation Challenge on narrow single trails, the uncompromising climbs to the Strategica Mountain Road and an exposed descent along a narrow goat track. Riverbeds, deep fine gravel, wet grassy slopes and washed-out forest tracks added to the challenge. The combination of distance, technical difficulty, navigation and fatigue made Romania one of the toughest and, at the same time, most impressive GS Trophies to date.

Another defining feature was the interplay between authentic adventure and international community. Under the motto “Back to Basics”, 30 riders from 13 nations experienced Romania’s wild landscapes, historic high-altitude routes and warm hospitality. The BMW R 12 G/S proved itself as a versatile competition bike – powerful, precise and controllable on every type of terrain.

IMSA Indianapolis: First overall victory for BMW M Team WRT with the BMW M Hybrid V8 in North America.

Indianapolis. The spell is broken! BMW M Team WRT celebrated its first victory in North America with the BMW M Hybrid V8 at the penultimate race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season at Indianapolis (USA). Dries Vanthoor (BEL) and Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) triumphed in the 2-hour 40-minute ‘Battle on the Bricks’. There was also a victory to celebrate in the GTD class. Robby Foley and Patrick Gallagher (both USA) crossed the finish line first in the #96 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from Turner Motorsport.

For the fourth time in its debut season in the GTP class of the IMSA Series, BMW M Team WRT made it onto the podium – and for the first time, they claimed the top step. Vanthoor secured a strong starting position with third on the grid in qualifying, whilst van der Linde took the lead with a determined overtaking manoeuvre just a few minutes before the end and safely drove home to claim his first IMSA victory. Vanthoor had already won in 2025 with BMW M Team RLL alongside Philipp Eng (AUT) at Road America (USA). Eng, alongside Marco Wittmann (GER) in the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8, had an unfortunate race at Indianapolis. The pair finished tenth.

Turner Motorsport also had reason to celebrate. Robby Foley and Patrick Gallagher secured the team’s first victory in the GTD class for more than two years in the #96 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Paul Miller Racing, in the #1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, was in contention for a podium finish in the GTD PRO class for much of the race, but was struck by several rivals in the closing stages and was ultimately even forced off the track. Neil Verhagen and Connor De Phillippi (both USA) ultimately finished sixth. Although this meant they lost their lead in the GTDv PRO overall standings, they still have every chance of winning the title at the season finale.

Unfortunately, our race didn’t go to plan. I lost control of the car whilst trying to overtake the Aston Martin and made contact with it. I take full responsibility for that. We had a great race, were always right up there at the front and, after the restart, managed to build up a small lead, which I was then able to hold on to until the finish. Neil Verhagen (#1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Paul Miller Racing, 6th place GTD PRO): “I really don’t know what to say. We actually had a clean race and were in the leading group. Then, in the closing stages, our rivals started using us as a punching bag. One after the other, the other cars crashed into us. That’s obviously the last thing you want when you’re leading the championship. We’ve now got a tough task ahead of us at the season finale, but we’ll give it our all there.”

London. The 22nd BMW PGA Championship came to a spectacular close with a thrilling final round and two successful firsts. American J.J. Spaun, who was competing in the DP World Tour’s flagship event for the first time, secured the prestigious title at the Wentworth Club with a total of 271 strokes (70, 66, 68, 67; 17 under par). Last year’s US Open champion carded the decisive four birdies over the final five holes, thereby becoming the third American winner of the BMW PGA Championship after Arnold Palmer (1975) and Billy Horschel (2021 & 2024). A few hours earlier, Frédéric Lacroix had scored his first hole-in-one on the DP World Tour on the 14th hole, winning this year’s hole-in-one prize: the new all-electric BMW iX5 xDrive60 M Sport.

The battle for the title was intense and remained completely open for a long time. Major winners Rory McIlroy (NIR), Aaron Rai (ENG) and Adam Scott (AUS) were all in contention for victory on Sunday, alongside Manuel Elvira (all -15, T2). The Spaniard had drawn level with Spaun with an eagle on the 17th hole, but carded a double bogey on the final hole – a par 5 – and thus dramatically missed out on his first tournament victory on the DP World Tour. Sixth place was shared by the reigning Open champion and 2023 BMW PGA Championship winner, Ryan Fox (NZL), with Matt Fitzpatrick (ENG), Joost Luiten (NED) and Filippo Celli (ITA, all -14).

Frédéric Lacroix wins the BMW iX5 xDrive60 M Sport.

Frédéric Lacroix saved his first hole-in-one on the DP World Tour for the perfect moment. In the final round, the Frenchman aced the 14th hole with a 7-iron from a distance of 163 yards. For this perfect shot, he was rewarded with this year’s hole-in-one prize: the new, all-electric BMW iX5 xDrive60 M Sport. Lacroix will be among the first to enjoy sheer driving pleasure with the first battery-electric BMW X5 in history. The market launch of the first variants of the new BMW X5 is scheduled for late November 2026, with the all-electric and plug‑in hybrid versions to follow in early 2027.

The fifth generation of the BMW X5 impresses with technical innovations, a stunning new design and the integration of future-oriented technologies from the Neue Klasse. This underlines its exceptional status and reinforces its leading position in a segment that it originally established.

Lacroix became the sixth player in the tournament’s history to win the hole-in-one prize. In 2015 (Andrew Johnston, ENG, BMW M4 Coupé, and Chris Wood, ENG, BMW i8) and 2016 (Scott Jamieson, SCO, BMW M2 Coupé, and James Morrison, ENG, BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition), there were two hole-in-one prizes each year which found happy owners. In 2020, David Howell holed out on the 14th hole with a single stroke. That year, the tournament was held during the Covid-19 pandemic, and BMW donated the equivalent value of the 530e xDrive Touring – £71,675 – to the Alzheimer’s Society. The Albatross Award offered in 2020 on the 18th hole, a BMW i8 Roadster Rosso Corsa, was claimed by Ross Fisher with a spectacular shot. To this day, the Englishman’s albatross on the iconic finishing hole of the West Course remains the only one in the tournament’s long history.

World Champions: Historic title triumph in FIM EWC.

Le Castellet. The BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team is the new World Champion in the FIM Endurance World Championship (FIM EWC)! In the final 24-hour race, the prestigious Bol d’Or at Le Castellet (FRA), riders Michael van der Mark (NED), Markus Reiterberger (GER) and Steven Odendaal (RSA) not only took a dominant victory with the #37 BMW M 1000 RR, they also made history: it is the first world championship title for a European manufacturer in the FIM EWC. For the team, Team Manager Werner Daemen (BEL) and the riders, it is also their first title triumph in endurance racing.

Just one year ago, drama unfolded at the very same venue when the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team already had one hand firmly on the World Championship trophy. However, less than half an hour before the finish, a technical failure shattered all their dreams. This only motivated everyone even more for the 2026 season. Where there were tears of disappointment last year, there were now tears of joy.

In all four races of the 2026 FIM EWC season, the team and its riders demonstrated that they were once again strong title contenders. At the season opener, the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans (FRA), they led until the early hours of the morning before dropping back due to problems. This was followed by the celebrated victory for the #37 BMW M 1000 RR at the 8 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL). At the third round of the season, the Suzuka 8 Hours (JPN), van der Mark, Reiterberger and Odendaal secured third place, marking the first podium for a European manufacturer at the Japanese classic. As a result, the team reduced its deficit to championship leaders YART (Yamaha) to 19 points ahead of the finale.

At Le Castellet, there was therefore only one goal for the team: as the chasing team, to score the maximum possible number of points, and that is exactly what they did in dominant fashion. Van der Mark, who joined the team as a full-time rider this season and had never previously raced at the French circuit, was the fastest rider in qualifying. Together with Reiterberger, he secured pole position based on the combination of their best lap times, earning five points. Leading the race after eight and 16 hours brought another ten points, while victory was worth a further 40 points. The keys to success were the skill and speed of the riders, flawless work in the pits, as well as the performance, reliability and fuel efficiency of the motorcycle. The BMW M 1000 RR used less fuel than its rivals, allowing the team to make fewer pit stops over the distance and save valuable time.

After 24 trouble-free hours, Reiterberger crossed the finish line in first place on the #37 BMW M 1000 RR, greeted by jubilant celebrations from the team on the pit wall. Rival YART finished the race in third place and was therefore beaten by four points in the World Championship standings.

GT World Challenge Europe: Matisse Lismont and Ignacio Montenegro complete the title triple in the Silver Cup.

Zandvoort. Joy and disappointment were closely intertwined during the penultimate race weekend of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup powered by AWS at Zandvoort (NED). Matisse Lismont (BEL) and Ignacio Montenegro (ARG) enjoyed a perfect weekend. The young duo, driving the #30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO for Team WRT, secured a win and a second place in the Silver Cup, thereby clinching a hat-trick of titles. On top of the Endurance Cup title they had already won, they added the Sprint Cup and the Overall championship titles on the North Sea coast – and that with two race events still to go before the end of the season. In the Pro Cup, however, Team WRT’s three crews struggled. Fourth place on Sunday for Valentino Rossi (ITA) and Max Hesse (GER) in the #46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO was their best result.

Furthermore, no other Pro Cup crew managed a top-ten finish. Rossi and Hesse finished twelfth on Saturday, whilst Kelvin van der Linde (RSA) and Charles Weerts (BEL) retired on Saturday and had to settle for 15th place overall on Sunday. As a result, they lost the lead in the Sprint Cup drivers’ championship. Jordan Pepper (RSA) and Amaury Cordeel (BEL) retired from both races following collisions through no fault of their own. Nevertheless, Team WRT took the lead in the overall team standings.

In addition to the success in the Silver Cup, a BMW M4 GT3 EVO also finished on the podium in the Bronze Cup. Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Darren Leung (GBR) finished second on Saturday. On Sunday, they finished fifth. In the Gold Cup, David Pittard (GBR) and Jop Rappange (NED) finished seventh and eighth in the #77 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from KPX Motorsport.

Max Hesse (#46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: 12th place, Race 2: 4th place): “It wasn’t an easy weekend – especially for the team, who had their work cut out for them with all four WRT cars. Our #46 crew clocked the fastest pit stop twice – that’s a brilliant achievement. With fourth place on Sunday, we got the most out of it.”

Charles Weerts (#32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: DNF, Race 2: 15th): “It was a really tough weekend for us. We didn’t manage to get the car into the optimal working window in either qualifying session. When you start from so far back, it’s difficult to achieve good results – although that would have been difficult anyway, as other cars seemed to be faster than us here. That’s obviously not ideal for the championship, but we still have two races left at Barcelona.”

Ignacio Montenegro (#30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: Silver Cup winner, Race 2: 2nd in the Silver Cup): “I’m really happy. Today we’ve finally done it: three out of three! We’re the Overall, Endurance and Sprint champions! This means everything to us. We’ve worked so hard this season that we’ve earned this as a team. I think second place in the second race is down to the team. They pulled off an amazing pit stop. The power of individual action: 15 years of the BMW Group Award for Social Responsibility

Munich. When people take responsibility and devote their time, expertise and passion to supporting others, they can make a real difference. And that’s what the BMW Group Awards for Social Engagement are all about: established in 2011, they honour BMW Group employees whose volunteering activities help others and contribute to a fairer, more liveable society.

This year’s recipients are Julia Springer, Kais Aseckzai, Nadège Goncalves and Abdessamad Bendahhou . Their projects provide access to education, foster social inclusion and create new opportunities for people. Their commitment shows just how much an individual can achieve.

Impact through social engagement

The four award-winning projects reflect the broad spectrum of volunteering activities by BMW Group employees around the world.

This year Julia Springer won the employee poll, which attracted more votes than ever before. The Vera and Volker Doppelfeld Foundation Special Award, presented in recognition of young volunteers, went to Kais Aseckzai. Each winning project received €10,000 in prize money.

Award ceremony at BMW Welt

The award ceremony took place on 14 September in the Double Cone at BMW Welt. Finalists, award presenters and numerous guests gathered to celebrate the extraordinary commitment of the volunteers. Among those attending was Dorothea von Boxberg, Member of the Board of Management responsible for HR and Labour Relations Director with BMW AG. Speaking at the event, she said: "The award-winning projects represent people who show great dedication to helping others and, in doing so, make a tangible difference. Their commitment deserves our special recognition. Because every act of commitment counts. Every hour spent helping others strengthens social cohesion in our society."

Resounding response to the awards

This year, the BMW Group Awards for Social Engagement attracted more than 100 applications. Nine projects were shortlisted as finalists, with four ultimately winning awards.

The other finalists were not left empty-handed, however, and received €2,500 each for their projects.

The winners in 2026

Julia Springer gives children from disadvantaged social backgrounds the opportunity to take a break from their difficult lives. As co-founder of the non-profit organisation Urlaubskinder e.V., she organises and accompanies camping trips for kids aged eight to fourteen. There are currently 17 KidsCamps across the German-speaking region, plus one camp for older teenagers.

Kais Aseckzai provides orphaned children and young people in Afghanistan with access to education. Together with local partners, he and his organisation, Learn.Lead.Lift, support educational projects with a particular focus on girls, as they often have no access to schooling. At present, Learn.Lead.Lift is primarily supporting an orphanage in Kabul, where it enables children and young people to attend school.

Nadège Goncalves supports women affected by domestic violence. As co-founder of Maison Solidarité Femmes 95, she helps provide protection, advice and practical assistance. An employment programme helps women to re-enter the job market and become financially independent.

Abdessamad Bendahhou is committed to improving young people’s career prospects. Through workshops and exchange programmes with the non-profit organisation Deutsch-Marokkanische Kompetenznetzwerk e.V., he connects young, talented individuals with one another and with businesses. This helps them access internships, vocational training, higher education and employment opportunities. He often supports his participants as a mentor for several years.

Increasing visibility for the past 15 years

The BMW Group Award for Social Responsibility is a key element of the SOCIAL DRIVE initiative, which promotes employees’ volunteering activities. SOCIAL DRIVE provides a platform to showcase projects, connect with colleagues and gain support for initiatives.

The 15 th anniversary of the BMW Group Award for Social Responsibility demonstrates that social change often begins with individuals taking responsibility. The awards recognise this commitment and inspire others to get involved.

22nd BMW PGA Championship: Festival of Golf featuring a world-class field and a bespoke hole-in-one vehicle.

London. This week, Wentworth Club, is once again the venue for one of the UK and Europe’s most prestigious golf tournaments. The BMW PGA Championship, now in its 22nd year with title partner BMW, will see 120,000 spectators join an outstanding field of players in celebrating the Festival of Golf.

The title at the DP World Tour’s flagship event is highly coveted, and not just amongst the numerous English stars who are hoping to be carried to a home victory by the crowd, including reigning PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai, Major winners Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose, former BMW PGA Champions Danny Willett (2019), Tyrrell Hatton (2020) and Luke Donald (2011, 2012), as well as crowd favourite Tommy Fleetwood.

A host of top international players also have the BMW PGA Championship marked firmly in their diaries, including former BMW PGA Champions Rory McIlroy (NIR, 2014), Shane Lowry (IRL, 2022), Ryan Fox (NZL, 2023) and defending champion Alex Noren (SWE), who celebrated his second title last year following his victory in 2017. Former world number one Jon Rahm (ESP) will also be teeing off, as will European Ryder Cup heroes Viktor Hovland (NOR), Robert MacIntyre (SCO), Ludvig Åberg (SWE) and Sepp Straka (AUT), and Major winners J.J. Spaun, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed (all USA).

Traditionally the first highlight of the tournament is Wednesday‘s Celebrity Pro-Am, featuring stars from the worlds of both sport and entertainment. Among those expected this year is football legend Gareth Bale (WAL), Robbie Fowler, John Terry (both ENG) and Eden Hazard (BEL).

The legendary 14th hole (par 3) at Wentworth Club is a unique spot where the atmosphere of the BMW PGA Championship can be fully experienced, with the BMW hole-in-one prize awarded here again this year. In a change to tradition, each pro has the opportunity to select their preferred car from ten key BMW models before the tournament begins. Whichever pro scores the first hole-in-one of the tournament at this hole will take home either their choice of car, or the new BMW iX5.

Visitors at the PGA will be able to find a selection of BMW Group vehicles and more in the Championship Village, with this year’s highlights include the new, all-electric BMW i3 – the second model of the Neue Klasse – the new all-electric BMW i7, and the new all-electric BMW iX5.

Visitors also get the chance to test themselves on a Trackman simulation of the iconic 18^th hole of the West Course. At a challenge called BRING YOUR M GAME players must complete three activities which are themed around the parallels to BMW M performance and high performing golfers: Power (the tee shot), Precision (the shot onto the green) and Performance (the final putt). Everyone who plays gets a personalised BMW M bag tag. The best player of the day wins a BMW Driving Experience.

Each year the live concerts after play in the Championship Village make a special contribution to the Festival of Golf. DJ Tony Perry will take to the decks on Friday, while The Kooks will perform on Saturday before Ella Eyre brings the BMW PGA Championship to a close on Sunday evening.

At the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, we witnessed an exciting NLS double-header with an overall victory for the BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Schubert Motorsport and great results for the other BMW M Motorsport teams. In ADAC GT Masters and ADAC GT4 Germany, FK Performance Motorsport celebrated important victories in the battle for the titles. In the GT4 Italy Series, the title has already been secured: congratulations to champions Giacomo Maman and Gustavo Sandrucci! We also really enjoyed the BMW M2 Cup races at the Sachsenring. But these were just some of the highlights of recent weeks – congratulations to all the successful BMW M Motorsport teams, and best of luck for the upcoming races!”

NLS: Schubert Motorsport wins on the Nordschleife.

Endurance racing on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (GER) came in a double dose last weekend, with rounds eight and nine of the 2026 Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). Once again, there was an overall victory to celebrate for Schubert Motorsport and the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. In the highly exciting race on Saturday, Jens Klingmann (GER), Ugo de Wilde (BEL) and Jordan Pepper (RSA) in car #77 were unbeatable. It was Schubert Motorsport’s second overall NLS victory of the season.

Sunday’s race came to an early end for the trio of Klingmann, de Wilde and Pepper following light contact with the track barriers. There was a podium finish for the BMW M4 GT3 EVO in the SP9 Pro-Am class, with Gamota Racing taking third place. Car #23 was driven by Antal Zsigo (SVK), Moritz Kranz and David Jahn (both GER). On Saturday, Jahn had secured pole position for the team.

Overall, the BMW M Motorsport teams scored ten class wins during the NLS double-header in addition to Saturday’s overall victory. Among them were Manuel Metzger (SUI), Russ Turner (USA) and Alexandru Vasilescu (ROM), who were successful in the SP10 class in the #177 BMW M4 GT4 EVO of AV Racing by Black Falcon. Following their victory on Saturday, the trio finished second in the category on Sunday. Richard Gresek, Maik Rönnefarth and Philipp Gresek (all GER) took third place in the fiercely contested SP10 class in the #155 BMW M4 GT4 EVO of Plusline Motorsport.

Three questions for ... Ugo de Wilde.

Young BMW M works driver Ugo de Wilde (BEL) is contesting his first season in the BMW M4 GT3 EVO on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife (GER). On Saturday, he celebrated his first overall victory – a highlight in a year marked by a steep learning curve.

Ugo, how much fun are you having in your first season in the BMW M4 GT3 EVO on the Nordschleife?

Ugo de Wilde: “It has been amazing getting to know the Nordschleife with the GT3. My GT3 debut at this track was at NLS 2, and I immediately fell in love with it. I now understood why it is so legendary. Driving a GT3 on the Nordschleife is simply one of the best combinations there is. The 24-hour race was another major highlight, of course: it was a great honour for me to be part of the project with the BMW M3 Touring 24H. It is something I will never forget in my lifetime.”

What have you learned on the Nordschleife this season?

De Wilde: “A lot. I have gained a lot of confidence in the high-speed corners, but also a lot of experience with Code 60s and Code 120. Traffic management was a major topic where I learned a lot, as was tyre management.”

Let’s talk about last weekend: on Saturday, you celebrated the overall victory in the #77 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Schubert Motorsport, your first in the NLS. You were unlucky on Sunday, but what are you taking away from the weekend?

De Wilde: “I am very happy about this victory. Winning a race on the Nordschleife was really one of my goals, and now I have achieved it. Unfortunately, I had this little accident in Sunday’s race. I also learned from it that you have to be very, very careful when you are on slicks in the wet in changing conditions. And that some corners can be extremely slippery. Basically, I had a little contact with the barriers while running slicks in the wet, which unfortunately meant we had to end Sunday’s race. But that is also part of the Nordschleife – these crazy conditions. I understand why they call it the ‘Green Hell’. Overall, I learned a lot again and had a lot of fun. I am already looking forward to being back on the Nordschleife as soon as possible.”

FK Performance Motorsport: Title ambitions in the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC GT4 Germany.

FK Performance Motorsport is one of the BMW M Motorsport teams competing successfully with both the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and the BMW M4 GT4 EVO. As a result, the team has strong title chances in two championships this season: the ADAC GT Masters and ADAC GT4 Germany. With two winning weekends, FK Performance Motorsport underlined its ambitions in these series.

At the penultimate round of the ADAC GT Masters season at the Salzburgring (AUT) from 4th to 6th September, two endurance races were held, each featuring two mandatory pit stops, refuelling and a tyre change. In Saturday’s race, FK Performance Motorsport delivered a tactical masterclass, with Leyton Fourie (RSA) and Tim Zimmermann (GER) taking victory in the #11 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Fourie and Zimmermann followed this up with fourth place on Sunday. As a result, they moved into the lead of the ADAC GT Masters standings ahead of the season finale at Hockenheim (GER) in October.

The team from Bremen (GER) then headed to the Sachsenring (GER) last weekend for the penultimate round of the ADAC GT4 Germany season. It was dominated by Gabriele Piana (ITA) and Benjamin Sylvestersson (FIN) in the #51 BMW M4 GT4 EVO of FK Performance Motorsport. The Italian-Finnish duo took the win from pole position on Saturday. As a result, Piana and Sylvestersson reduced their deficit in the overall standings to five points ahead of the finale at the Hockenheimring (GER). “I am obviously very happy with the victory,” said Sylvestersson. “Gabriele did the whole job in the first stint, so I just had to bring the car home. It is a great result for our title hopes.”

Their team-mates Luca Link and Luis Moser (both GER) finished fifth in the #49 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, collecting further important points for the team standings. Thanks to the strong team result, FK Performance Motorsport heads into the season finale just 13 points behind in second place and remains in contention for the title in this classification as well. Sunday’s race could not be held due to damaged kerbs and rain. ADAC is examining whether the race will be rescheduled at the Hockenheimring.

M News compact: More wins and podium finishes.

BMW M2 Cup (11th-13th September): Michael Schrey (GER) claimed his seventh victory in the seventh race of the BMW M2 Cup season at the Sachsenring (GER). The experienced driver from Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport won in the #2 BMW M2 Racing ahead of Christopher Holst (SUI) and Noah Eichele (GER), both representing H&R Das Juniorteam! by ME Motorsport. In the rain-affected race on Sunday, Schrey was beaten for the first time this season when Holst took his maiden victory, with Schrey and Eichele finishing second and third respectively.

GT Cup Series (11th-13th September): Four victories was the tally from the race weekend at Brno in the Czech Republic. In the first sprint race, Rudolf Beňo (SVK) won the D4-GT3 class in the #444 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Aries Racing. Jan Vojtko (POL) won the D4-GT4 class in the #364 BMW M4 GT4 of GT Sports. In the endurance race, Beňo and his team-mate Richard Gonda (SVK) won the eGT3 class, while Vojtko was successful in the eGT4 category.

BMW Maps displays navigation and driver assistance information in a single 3D view

München. Starting in October 2026, the BMW Group will introduce BMW Maps with driver assistance¹ for BMW vehicles equipped with the BMW Operating System X. The feature combines route guidance, the vehicle’s surroundings, and driver assistance information into a single 3D view on the central display. This allows drivers to see not only the next navigation step, but also how the vehicle perceives its surroundings and which assistance functions are supporting the driving task.

The display shows the driver's own vehicle precisely within its lane and at the correct road level. This helps with navigation on highways, at intersections, and in city traffic. At the same time, it makes assisted and semi-automated driving even easier to understand in the context of the current driving situation.

This integration is particularly relevant when driver-assistance systems support driving over long distances or in complex traffic situations. For example, the Highway Assistant 2 enables hands-free driving on highways at speeds of up to 130 km/h. The system controls both longitudinal and lateral movement and supports automated lane changes after the driver confirms with a glance. With active route guidance via BMW Maps, the system provides support from the highway on-ramp all the way to the exit.

In urban areas, the interplay between navigation and driver assistance is becoming increasingly important. Starting in 2027, BMW models equipped with the BMW Operating System X will begin rolling out navigation-guided, semi-automated driving in urban areas, initially in Germany.

“An important step toward highly automated driving is the intelligent interaction between navigation and driver assistance. BMW Maps with Driver Assistance¹ shows drivers how route guidance, environmental perception, and assistance functions work together. This provides better orientation when driver assistance is active—developed by the BMW Group in collaboration with Mapbox,” says Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President of Digital Services, Infotainment, and Connected Company at the BMW Group.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the BMW Group to be the first to bring this next-generation navigation experience to market. Drivers can see exactly which lane they need to be in and everything happening around the vehicle. All of this is brought together in a seamless view—making every trip easier so drivers can enjoy the ride and never miss a turn again,” says Peter Sirota, CEO of Mapbox.

The integrated display in BMW Maps is based on the new generation of driver assistance systems working in conjunction with the BMW Operating System X. BMW Maps with Driver Assistance¹ is developed in-house by the BMW Group and utilizes navigation data and map technology from its partner, Mapbox. The combination of navigation, 3D map display, and driver assistance makes BMW Maps a key differentiator in intelligent vehicle guidance across international markets.

Carpathian Calling: The BMW Motorrad Int. GS Trophy 2026 Romania begins.

Colțești, Romania . The tenth BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy got underway yesterday. Camped on the edge of the village of Coltesti, overlooked by a 13^th century clifftop fortress, deep in the Transylvanian region, the competitors are surrounded by a natural wilderness landscape. Encircled by the Carpathian mountains and some of Europe’s few great undisturbed natural forests – home to apex predators such as grey wolves and brown bears, in their thousands – this is a rare European wilderness.

Rugged terrain in the form of dense forests, gravel roads, river crossings, and mountainous ascents and descents will challenge the riders in the coming days. A perfect tableau on which to showcase the impressive on- and off-road capabilities of the latest GS Trophy Competition Bike, the BMW R 12 G/S.

The BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy is emphatically not a race: outright speed, fastest times and individual victory are not what define success. Instead, it is a shared adventure that rewards precise riding, sound judgement, endurance and, above all, the ability to work as a team. Participants support one another, solve practical and intellectual challenges together and demonstrate the camaraderie, resilience and mutual respect at the heart of the international GS community. While teams collect points during special tests, these challenges are designed to showcase well-rounded adventure-riding skills rather than racing performance.

Over the weekend, participants completed registration and medical checks, as well as the individual fitting of their protective and riding equipment. After the SENA communication systems had been integrated, they took delivery of their personalised BMW R 12 G/S motorcycles. A welcome dinner and team introductions on Saturday set the stage for the start on Sunday morning.

This year, eight national or regional qualifiers have produced 13 international teams, eight of which are three-person male teams and five two-person female teams – all together 30 riders from 13 nations. Some 30 individuals who will need all their riding skills, their inner strength and outgoing team working capability to succeed in this ever-testing adventure motorcycling competition.

Adventure riding without limits.

The participants face six days and around 1,500 challenging kilometres through the Carpathians. Roughly half of the route runs off paved roads, taking in steep sections, rugged mountain trails and dense forest tracks. The winding asphalt roads also demand maximum concentration due to the challenging topography.

Daily competition challenges test riding, practical and mental skills – essential qualities for adventure riders operating in remote regions.

The tenth edition is held under the motto “Back to Basics”: demanding rides through mountain and forest terrain, teamwork and the certainty that the unexpected is always just around the corner.

Host country Romania captivates with its rich traditions, fascinating history and warm hospitality – a far more authentic experience than the fantasy imagery shaped by Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

BMW Motorrad note:
Chrissie met Fionn Griffiths on a road trip to the International Qualifier in Germany. They became friends. Fionn originally made place 1 at the qualifier and was supposed to come to Romania. Only Fionn, with previous experience of international competition in mountain biking gave her place up so Chrissie could take the place instead and experience what it’s like to be in an exciting international event.
