Strong demand following early order opening: BMW Plant Munich launches BMW i3* series production with steep ramp-up curve

Munich. Series production of the new BMW i3 gets underway today at BMW Group Plant Munich. The BMW i3 has been available for order since mid-June, with high demand leading to a steep ramp-up curve at the plant. “The models of the Neue Klasse are proving to be very popular. The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, is already seeing strong demand since orders opened ahead of its launch,“ said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

Following four years of intensive transformation – including the construction of a new body shop and a new assembly hall with logistics areas – the BMW i3 sounds the starting signal for the next chapter in the success story of BMW Group Plant Munich. “The start of production of the BMW i3 heralds a new era for our main plant. With the fully-electric BMW i3, we are bringing together what belongs together: The 3 Series embodies BMW more than almost any other model – and Plant Munich represents our brand more than almost any other production site,” said Raymond Wittmann, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production. “The unique combination of headquarters, development and production at our main plant in Munich is a key driving force for our global production network: Every one of our plants benefits from the experience and knowledge gained from the launch of the Neue Klasse in Munich.”

Further efficiency gains in Munich: manufacturing costs down by 10%
“With the start of production of the BMW i3, we are lowering manufacturing costs at Plant Munich by another 10%,” said Peter Weber, head of BMW Group Plant Munich. The foundations for this have been laid through forward planning and close cooperation with development departments and suppliers, as well as through modern production technology within the new structures. In addition to optimised production processes and targeted automation and digitalisation, the Neue Klasse’s new vehicle architecture will also deliver further efficiencies.

Plant Munich positioned for the future
Starting in 2027, Plant Munich will exclusively produce fully-electric vehicles. Further Neue Klasse models will soon follow, securing the plant’s future viability for the coming decades. For Weber, it is clear that this journey will not be shaped by new systems and technologies alone: “The future viability of our plant will be ensured, above all, by the people who drive change and innovation with enthusiasm. Together, we challenge ourselves every day, harnessing digitalisation and automation, and gradually making Plant Munich even more efficient – without compromising our high quality standards.”

Highly efficient production at historic location
Munich has been closely tied to the BMW 3 Series since 1975. More than nine million BMW 3 Series have since rolled off the main plant's production line. The site has been fundamentally remodelled for the Neue Klasse, during ongoing production of up to 1,000 vehicles per day. Across an area covering about a third of the plant site, a new body shop and a cutting-edge vehicle assembly, including logistics areas, have been built. The most recent addition was the delivery hall, which is currently still in the commissioning phase. This is where vehicles undergo final customer inspections before being handed over to the sales department. The result of this transformation is a plant that is now even more efficient, flexible and digital, and therefore optimally equipped for the requirements of electromobility and the Neue Klasse.

A vision for all technologies: the BMW iFACTORY
The BMW iFACTORY is a vision for the production of the future, focusing on efficiency, sustainability and digitalisation. Within this framework, the company's plants are implementing site-specific solutions globally to strengthen the BMW Group's resilience and enhance its ability to deliver reliably worldwide at all times. This vision has now also been realised consistently across all technologies at BMW Group Plant Munich.

Global network, regional value creation: high-voltage batteries and e-drives
With the newly built BMW Group Plant Irlbach-Straßkirchen (Lower Bavaria, Germany), located around 90 minutes from Munich, the BMW Group is significantly boosting value creation across the Bavarian region. In line with its “local for local” approach, the plant will supply Plant Munich and other sites in Germany with sixth-generation high-voltage batteries. In this way, the new plant in Irlbach-Straßkirchen will make a vital contribution to the production of models for the Neue Klasse, such as the BMW i3. The production of high-voltage batteries combines a consistent zero-defect approach with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies developed at the Bavarian pilot plants. Through continuous inline quality control, digital twins and the systematic use of artificial intelligence, the BMW Group is setting new standards in battery production.

The Gen6 electric motor for the BMW i3 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Steyr in Austria, a site that has been manufacturing drive systems for over 40 years. Now, with the first electric motor in its portfolio, the plant is further strengthening its role as a perfect example of technology openness. All core components for the highly integrated e-drive – from the rotor and stator to the power converter and transmission – will be produced on site. New production lines and cutting-edge cleanroom environments have been established for this purpose. The aluminium foundry at BMW Group Plant Landshut supplies the electric motor housing to Plant Steyr.

Istanbul. Borusan Otomotiv, BMW's official importer in Türkiye and the brand's largest importer worldwide, is bringing Turkish contemporary art to the global stage as a key partner of the Türkiye Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The pavilion, commissioned by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), showcases "A Kiss on the Eyes" by acclaimed artist Nilbar Güreş, curated by Başak Doğa Temür until November 2026 at the Sale d'Armi, Arsenale.

Every year on the occasion of La Biennale di Venezia, together with the Neue Nationalgalerie, the BMW Group hosts a joint event celebrating their long-term partnership of the Preis der Nationalgalerie, which will be awarded to Maurizio Cattelan in 2026. Already in 2011, BMW teamed up with artist Hajnal Németh for her “CRASH – Passive Interview” installation for the Hungarian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Curated by Başak Doğa Temür, "A Kiss on the Eyes" showcases Güreş's celebrated practice spanning sculpture, installation, painting, and mixed-media works. The exhibition explores themes of intimacy, resilience, and cultural identity through textiles, everyday objects, and organic forms that carry personal and collective histories. The pavilion is realised under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with co-sponsorship from Trendyol Art and additional support from Turkish Airlines and the SAHA Association.

Borusan Otomotiv’s first-time support of the Türkiye Pavilion reflects the commitment of supporting projects that create lasting value and contribute to important conversations. It coincides with the artistic leadership of the late Koyo Kouoh at the Venice Biennale. MINI makes 2026 Rebelle Rally Debut with New Rugged Model Variant.

Munich. MINI announced to make the brand's first-ever appearance in the 2026 Rebelle Rally, marking a new chapter in the brand´s storied motorsport history. Competing in the longest competitive off-road navigation rally in the United States, MINI will take part in the event with a new model variant that introduces an exciting adventure-oriented expression of the MINI brand during one of the world's premier off-road competitions for women.

Held annually across the deserts of Nevada and California, and for the first time in Utah, the Rebelle Rally is the nation's premier all-women off-road navigation competition, challenging competitors to rely solely on maps, compass, road book, and teamwork as they traverse 1,500 miles of rugged terrain. For MINI, the rally provides the ideal proving ground to demonstrate the capability, durability, and adventurous spirit of its newest model variant.

The new model variant will present a more rugged and adventure-oriented interpretation of the MINI lineup, designed for those eager to venture beyond the pavement and confidently follow wherever the journey may lead. An Accomplished All-Women Team

Erika Ferrer: A member of the BMW Group team in Mexico, Erika will serve as navigator. Ferrer brings both professional communications expertise and an impressive competitive rally résumé. After beginning her motorsports career managing championship rally teams, she transitioned into the co-driver's seat, earning three consecutive regional rally co-driver championships while competing throughout Mexico. Ferrer has also co-driven renowned rally champion Benito Guerra during La Carrera Panamericana. IMSA Road America: Strong performance by the BMW M Hybrid V8 goes unrewarded.

Road America. The BMW M Team WRT had a top result in sight at the penultimate endurance race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA Series) season in Road America (USA), but after technical issues with both BMW M Hybrid V8s, they are still waiting for their first win of the year. Cooling problems dropped Marco Wittmann (GER) and Philipp Eng (AUT) in the #25 car back to seventh place. Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) and Dries Vanthoor (BEL) led the six-hour race in the first half, but then had to retire due to brake issues. They attracted attention not only with their sporting performance, but also with the special design of their #24 BMW M Hybrid V8: BMW M Motorsport has teamed up with Spider-Man: Brand New Day to create a striking special livery for Road America.

Van der Linde secured third place on the grid in Saturday’s qualifying. After the first pit stops, he took the lead, which he held until the driver change to Vanthoor. However, around the halfway point of the race, the tide turned. First, the #24 car lost several positions during a restart, then brake issues forced the crew to retire. The #25 car fought its way to the front after a difficult qualifying session thanks to a bold strategy, but cooling problems forced the team into a lengthy repair stop, dropping the car far back. In the end, they finished seventh.

In the GTD PRO class, the #1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Paul Miller Racing suffered a similar fate. After sliding into the tyre barriers, the car driven by Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen (both USA) required lengthy repairs and finished only eleventh in its class. In the GTD category, Robby Foley, Patrick Gallagher, and Francis Selldorff (all USA) finished fifth in the #96 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Turner Motorsport.

Comments after the race:

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “Our disappointment is huge. It’s always very frustrating when you drop out or fall back due to technical issues. But it’s even more bitter when you’ve shown such strong pace all weekend and had a good chance to fight for victory. I feel sorry for everyone involved, who are working very hard but are not being rewarded with the corresponding results in the IMSA Series this year. The BMW M Hybrid V8 has proven to be very reliable this season. That’s why we need to take a close look at what caused the problems. We still have two races left – and we are determined to turn things around and secure at least one win. The whole crew deserves that.”

Vincent Vosse (Team Principal BMW M Team WRT): “This was not the result we had hoped for this weekend. The start of the race went very well. Sheldon was able to build a clear lead. Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring that home. We have good pace, but that alone is not enough. We also need to finish the races without mistakes and technical issues. We didn’t manage that. We will analyse exactly why that was and make another push for victory in Indianapolis.”

Philipp Eng (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8, BMW M Team WRT, 7th place GTP): “It feels like a race of missed opportunities. We had two fast cars, but technical problems can always happen. That’s part of racing. Our car felt very good in the race and had strong pace. I think we could have at least fought for a podium. Unfortunately, we carried our cooling problems with us for much of the race. In the end, we had no choice but to come in for repairs. That cost us two laps. It’s a real shame and I feel sorry for the team.”

Dries Vanthoor (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8, BMW M Team WRT, DNF): “We had a great weekend up until about halfway through the race. But then things started to go in the wrong direction. First, we lost some time and a few positions during the pit stop, then unfortunately I went off at the restart. Still, the team brought us back to the front with a bold strategy, and in the IMSA Series you never know if that might pay off in the end. Having to retire while leading is, of course, very sad. But on this fast track, it would have been too dangerous to continue with brake problems.”

GT World Challenge Europe: Team WRT’s Silver Cup car sensationally claims overall podium at Magny-Cours.

Magny-Cours. Matisse Lismont (BEL) and Ignacio Montenegro (ARG) sensationally claimed an overall podium finish during the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup weekend at Magny-Cours (FRA). The Belgian-Argentinian duo drove the Team WRT #30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO to second place in Sunday's race. Meanwhile, the Pro entries featuring defending champions Kelvin van der Linde (RSA) and Charles Weerts (BEL) endured a challenging weekend in France.

Lismont and Montenegro had already celebrated victory in the Silver Cup on Saturday evening, securing their third Sprint Cup class win of the season. On Sunday, the pair followed that up in spectacular fashion. Thanks to an excellent strategy following a red flag period, Montenegro and Lismont climbed to second overall, with Lismont confidently defending the position all the way to the finish. Team WRT also completed a one-two finish in the Silver Cup.

Championship leaders van der Linde and Weerts, however, experienced two difficult days. In Saturday's qualifying session, the Team WRT duo could do no better than 17th on the grid. Nevertheless, the defending champions drove an impressive recovery drive in the evening race, finishing seventh and collecting valuable championship points.

On Sunday, van der Linde set the fastest qualifying time but was later stripped of pole position due to a technical regulations infringement. Starting from 42nd on the grid, the South African gained numerous positions in the opening phase before being forced to retire following contact with another competitor. Despite the setback, van der Linde and Weerts retained their lead in the Sprint Cup standings.

Their Team WRT teammates Max Hesse (GER) and Valentino Rossi (ITA) finished sixth and ninth in the #46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. Jordan Pepper (RSA) and Amaury Cordeel (BEL) crossed the line in 20th and 11th places.

There was greater cause for celebration for Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Darren Leung (GBR). In the Bronze Cup, Paradine Competition claimed victory in Sunday's race with the #991 BMW M4 GT3 EVO after narrowly missing out on the class podium with fourth place in Race 1. In the Gold Cup, KPX Motorsport finished sixth and seventh.

Reactions after the races.

Kelvin van der Linde (#32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: 7th, Race 2: DNF): "It was a difficult weekend for us. We didn't get everything out of our package that was possible. The disqualification from qualifying after taking pole on Sunday obviously hit us hard. But our main championship rivals also had a difficult Sunday. We still lead the Sprint Cup standings and have every chance of defending the title."

Max Hesse (#46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: 6th, Race 2: 9th): "It wasn't an easy weekend. It had its ups and downs. Our qualifying on Saturday was very strong, but unfortunately we couldn't quite maintain that pace in the race. Sixth place in the end was okay, but it's not where we want to be. Sunday's qualifying was extremely difficult with 22nd on the grid. We managed to make up some positions in the race, but starting that far back meant the fight for the top positions was no longer realistic."

Ignacio Montenegro (#30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: Silver Cup Victory, Race 2: Silver Cup Victory and 2nd overall): "This is simply amazing - having a race weekend like this in my first year racing a GT3 car. Matisse and I felt very comfortable at Magny-Cours, both in qualifying and in the races. On top of that, Team WRT executed a superb strategy and a perfect pit stop. The results are incredible."

Matisse Lismont (#30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, Race 1: Silver Cup Victory, Race 2: Silver Cup Victory and 2nd overall): "I'm incredibly happy. That was the best stint of my career so far. Ladies and Gentlemen.

Over the past several weeks, we have seen how quickly our business environment can change.

As Walter outlined, the Q2 results reflect our adjusted guidance. However, the figures in the first and second quarters are not satisfactory.

The rapid deterioration of the market in China was the main trigger that forced us to adjust our guidance in June. In addition, new competitors are also expanding into several markets across Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Europe. These market dynamics, however, are just one aspect of the fundamental changes in our industry.

In a little over a year, several other factors have converged and have had a significant impact on our business environment, including:

headwinds from tariffs, trade barriers and currency exchange rates;
increasing requirements in regulations, especially in Europe; and
the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

To address these challenges we are taking immediate, decisive action to drive the necessary change.

This will ensure that we remain competitive and will return us to better results – for the short, medium and longer term.

In the short term, we are taking steps to accelerate ongoing cost reduction initiatives, focusing on structural and efficiency measures. These will deliver a sustained reduction of our overall fixed costs. The impact will be visible from 2027 onwards and will provide a new baseline for our strategic and operational measures going forward.

One important aspect is the dimension of the organization, which we will make leaner to increase speed and effectiveness. We have made very quick progress with the General Works Council to reach an agreement on a workforce restructuring program. This includes a voluntary severance program in indirect functions in Germany.

Now, we will move forward with the implementation of the agreed measures in order to realize the benefits in the near term.

As our industry continues to transform, we need to be prepared for the road ahead – by tackling both our structures and our processes.

To ensure that we are fit to deliver the necessary changes in the mid-term, we are closely examining the entire value chain and have begun to take action on four key areas internally:

Customer journey, our organizational structures, delivery and purchasing, and engineering.

To give you an idea of what we are looking at:

On the customer side: our focus is on the continued implementation of a new sales model in Europe, which requires a shift in mindset from wholesalers to retailers.

At the same time, we are optimizing every touchpoint in our customer ecosystem and leveraging the data we have to generate additional business opportunities.

On the organizational side: this means making greater use of AI to further automate processes and increase speed; as well as accelerating decision-making throughout the organization.

On delivery and purchasing: we are looking at how value creation is distributed globally and identifying opportunities to expand our local-for-local approach.

And on engineering: our focus is on increasing the speed of development through further standardization and communality in engineering solutions and components.

Across all these areas, we will fundamentally transform the company.

On the long-term perspective, we are constantly looking at the broader, strategic picture – covering technologies, products, markets and brands.

In all of these areas we are taking significant steps and picking up the pace. For example, we are re-evaluating which technologies,

model variants, and drivetrains we will need in the future. We are also further tailoring our approach to individual markets and their specific product and drivetrain requirements. And we are evaluating where we can pursue new partnerships where it makes economic and technological sense.

While we face a lot of headwinds at the moment, we also have a solid foundation to leverage. In Q2 we saw a strong performance in Europe and the US which could partly counterbalance the developments in China and Asia Pacific. And our performance in China to date in 2026 was at least in line with the overall market development.

We will also build on key changes that we have made in the last years, in particular the significant investment in Neue Klasse.

But this also includes the consolidation of the dealer network in China and, not least, the cost savings of 2.5 billion euros that we made in 2025.

As we look ahead, our strong portfolio of premium products and technologies, our drivetrain approach and our global footprint provide us with a strategic direction as we navigate the current market environment.

First: our products and technologies.

The rollout of the Neue Klasse is now well underway.

The BMW iX3* continues to see strong momentum:

We are on track to reach the next major milestone of 100,000 orders.

To support this incredible demand, we introduced a second shift at Plant Debrecen ahead of schedule. Since the start of series production, the plant has already produced 50,000 BMW iX3 – the fastest ramp-up of a new BMW Group plant.

We have also seen strong demand for the BMW i3 launch edition with initial orders, which we started earlier than planned in June. Regular ordering will open at the end of September.

Just a few weeks ago, we also celebrated the world premiere of the new, fifth-generation BMW X5. The new X5 shows the full potential of our technology-open approach – the second pillar of our strategic foundation.

Customer needs and expectations vary widely from market

to market – and even within individual markets. Our Q2 sales also reflect this reality and the strength of our technology-open approach. In Europe, sales were supported by BEV growth, which jumped by over a third in Q2. In the US, sales of ICE vehicles drove growth to double digits in the second quarter, as BEV demand in the overall market fell.

The positive response to the BMW iX3, i3, new 7 Series and X5 shows that we have made the right investments to bring the right product momentum to the markets. And there is much more to come, as our product roadmap remains firmly on track: by the end of next year, we will have launched 40 new and updated models.

This includes the first Neue Klasse models in China – the BMW iX3 and BMW i3 long-wheelbase. Produced at our manufacturing base in Shenyang, they have been developed specifically for Chinese customer preferences, and incorporate technologies from local tech players.

This illustrates the third key pillar of our strategy:

our global footprint with a local-for-local approach.

In major markets, it allows us to better address individual market needs, while serving demand through local production and supply chains. Particularly in challenging times, this set up offers us significant resilience and flexibility as developments vary from market to market.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are operating in a dynamic and challenging environment.

We are taking a critical look at how we work, including re-visiting core processes and structures that previously were considered untouchable.

We know we have hard work to do on the road ahead. My responsibility is to ensure that we pick up the pace and increase the impact.

We know we can put the company back on a solid, enduring path to the premium profitability that the company is capable of generating.

We remain ambitious and intend to return to our strategic EBIT margin corridor of 8-10% by the beginning of the next decade. In the interim, we will work our way back to this target step-by-step.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning.

Our second-quarter results reflect the challenging market conditions the BMW Group is currently facing, as outlined in our ad-hoc communication on June 16th.

During the quarter, both the Chinese automotive market and BMW Group retail sales in China continued to decline.

At the same time, higher export volumes from China increased competitive intensity in other markets, with a particular impact on our business in the Asia-Pacific region.

Together with the effects of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, these developments weighed on both our sales and financial performance.

While BMW Group deliveries increased by 7.6 percent in Europe and 11.9 percent in the US, this was not sufficient to offset the decline in China and Asia-Pacific.

SLIDE 3: BMW Group Performance in Q1 and H1 2026

Group revenues amounted to 31.3 billion euros in the second quarter and 62.3 billion euros in the first six months.

Group earnings before tax totalled 1.7 billion euros, a decline of 35 percent compared to the second quarter of last year.

Year-to-date through June, Group EBT declined by 29.4 percent year-on-year to around 4 billion euros.

This resulted in a Group EBT margin of 5.4 percent in the second quarter and 6.5 percent for the first half of the year.

In the Automotive Segment, EBIT amounted to 629 million euros in the second quarter, corresponding to a reported EBIT margin of 2.3 percent.

This reported margin includes a burden from elevated tariffs of 1.25 percentage points in the second quarter.

It also includes the depreciation from the BBA purchase price allocation, which reduced the EBIT margin by 1.2 percentage points.

After six months, Automotive EBIT amounted to around 2 billion euros, with an EBIT margin of 3.6 percent.

SLIDE 4: Automotive Retail Units, BEV Units and Auto Revenue

Let me now provide more detail on the performance of the Automotive Segment.

In the second quarter, the BMW Group delivered around 591,000 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers, 4.9 percent less than in the same quarter last year.

Looking at the development by brand, BMW delivered around 509,000 vehicles in the second quarter, down 7.7 percent year-on-year.

The MINI brand continued to perform well. Deliveries were up 17.1 percent compared to the prior-year quarter, supported by strong demand for our all-electric MINI models.

This brings me to our BEV retail sales.

Between April and June, the BMW Group delivered around 117,000 all-electric vehicles to customers worldwide.

Including plug-in hybrids, sales of electrified vehicles amounted to around 163,000 units.

This corresponds to a BEV share of 19.8 percent and an electrified vehicle share of 27.6 percent of total Group deliveries in the second quarter.

Europe remains the main growth driver for our all-electric vehicle sales.

Supported by the start of customer deliveries of the all-new BMW iX3*, BEV sales in Europe increased by 38 percent year-on-year to more than 81,000 units.

Almost one in three vehicles sold in Europe was all-electric.

This BEV performance in Europe supports our expectation that we will once again meet our CO2 emissions targets in the EU in 2026.

Automotive Segment revenues declined by 7.7 percent to 27.2 billion euros in the second quarter.

The decrease was primarily driven by lower sales volumes and also reflects the highly competitive market environment.

SLIDE 5: BMW Group: Growth in Europe and the US partially offset weaker sales in China and APAC

Let’s now take a closer look at our sales performance across the major regions.

In Europe, our largest sales region, retail sales increased by 7.6 percent year-on-year.

In the Americas, retail sales increased by 9.4 percent year-on-year, driven primarily by the US, where deliveries grew significantly by 11.9 percent.

In the US, the BMW brand once again outperformed the overall market in the second quarter.

Higher deliveries of vehicles with internal combustion engines more than offset lower BEV sales.

In China, the downturn in the automotive market accelerated further during the second quarter, predominantly in the non-electrified vehicle segment.

In this highly competitive environment, BMW Group retail sales declined by 30.2 percent between April and June.

For the first six months, retail sales in China were down 20.4 percent, in line with the overall market decline of 20.2 percent.

Against this backdrop, our focus remains on achieving the right balance between sales volumes, transaction prices, and profitability – both for the BMW Group and our dealer partners.

In our sales region Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa, deliveries declined by around 9,000 vehicles or 10.9 percent year-on-year.

Several markets in the region were affected by spillover effects from China as well as weaker consumer sentiment resulting from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Let’s now take a closer look at the year-on-year development of Automotive EBIT on the following slide.

SLIDE 6: Automotive Segment EBIT in Q2 2026

Changes in currencies had a negative impact of around 400 million euros on EBIT, while raw material positions were broadly neutral compared to the prior-year quarter.

The adverse FX developments seen in the first quarter continued into Q2.

We expect FX headwinds also in the second half of the year, although at a lower level than in the first six months.

The net effect of volume, model mix and pricing resulted in a negative impact of around 1.8 billion euros compared to Q2 2025.

A large share of this impact was related to China, which was also the main driver behind our guidance update in June.

Besides lower sales volumes, the decline in this position mainly reflects the highly competitive market environment across a number of regions, as well as weaker consumer sentiment in selected markets.

Since we fully consolidate BBA, the current headwinds from our business in China are fully reflected in Automotive EBIT.

Research and development expenses recognized in the P&L increased by around 100 million euros year-on-year.

This was mainly due to an increase in depreciation of around 150 million euros related to capitalized development costs from previous years.

As in the first quarter, Group R&D expenditure remained below the prior-year level in Q2.

Total R&D expenditure amounted to less than 2 billion euros, a decrease of 3.8 percent year-on-year.

This is in line with the trend of R&D and capital expenditure reduction that will continue for the remainder of the year.

The R&D ratio according to the German Commercial Code came in at 6.3 percent for the second quarter and 6.0 percent for the first half of the year.

Reducing our operating cost base remains an important priority. Accordingly, selling and administrative expenses decreased by around 200 million euros year-on-year in Q2.

Other Cost Changes provided a positive effect of around 1.2 billion euros compared to the second quarter of 2025.

This reflects a number of factors, including lower warranty and manufacturing costs as well as tariff-related effects.

Overall, we reduced expenditure by 400 million euros in the second quarter and 900 million euros year-to-date through June.

Automotive EBIT for the second quarter amounted to around 600 million euros.

After six months, it totalled 2 billion euros.

SLIDE 7: Automotive Segment Free Cash Flow in Q2 2026

Free cashflow in the Automotive Segment amounted to around 500 million euros in the second quarter of 2026.

The net change in working capital reduced free cashflow by around 1.3 billion euros.

This was due to an inventory build-up during the quarter, as production exceeded sales volumes.

We have already made the necessary adjustments to our production planning, with the objective of bringing inventories back towards the prior-year level by year-end.

The net effect of capital expenditure and depreciation contributed around 600 million euros to free cashflow.

As in the first quarter, depreciation exceeded declining capital expenditure in Q2, providing a positive contribution to free cashflow.

Throughout the year 2026, depreciation will remain above capital expenditure.

The capex ratio was 4.1 percent for the second quarter and 3.1 percent for the first six months.

In the first half of the year, we have reduced capex by more than 30 percent.

The change in provisions reduced free cashflow by 500 million euros in Q2. This includes the consumption of warranty provisions.

Other items increased free cashflow by 1.1 billion euros. This position covers multiple topics, including accrued expenses and interest received.

In the first six months, free cashflow amounted to 1.3 billion euros.

For the full year, the BMW Group is targeting an Automotive free cashflow above 2.5 billion euros.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The BMW Group remains committed to its shareholder return strategy, which includes both dividend payments and share buybacks.

We completed the second tranche of our third share buyback program on June 26th, two months ahead of the original schedule.

The third and final tranche started on July 1st and is expected to be completed no later than November 30th, five months earlier than originally scheduled.

Once completed, the third share buyback program will have reached its full volume of 2 billion euros.

For 2026, this represents a capital return of 1.25 billion euros to our shareholders under the current share buyback program.

The acceleration of the third tranche underlines our focused approach to capital allocation.

At the BMW Group, we take a long-term perspective to create sustained value for all our stakeholders.

For us, financial performance and responsible business management go hand in hand.

Alongside our environmental commitments, this also means maintaining high social and ethical standards across our operations and supply chains worldwide.

In an evolving competitive landscape, we believe that customers worldwide will increasingly value these standards as an important differentiating factor.

SLIDE 8: Financial Services Segment YTD June 2026

Let’s now turn to our Financial Services Segment.

In the first half of the year, the number of new contracts concluded with retail customers increased by 5 percent to 866,000 contracts.

The penetration rate for lease and loan products increased to 52.9 percent in the first six months.

This development was supported by changes in the competitive environment in China. Since mid-2025, local banks have significantly reduced commissions related to the brokering of financing and insurance products for end customers.

Adjusted for FX effects, total new business volume grew by 6.1 percent to about 33 billion euros.

Segment earnings for the first half of the year amounted to around 1 billion euros, down 15.4 percent year-on-year.

This decline was mainly driven by an addition to an existing provision for a consumer compensation program in the UK in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Financial Services earnings increased by 15.7 percent year-on-year, supported by a larger portfolio volume.

In the first half of the year, the credit loss ratio across the entire credit portfolio remained low at 0.27 percent.

SLIDE 9: Motorcycles Segment in Q2 2026

In the Motorcycles Segment, deliveries declined slightly by 1.9 percent year-on-year.

Segment EBIT increased to 141 million euros, resulting in an EBIT margin of 15.2 percent.

SLIDE 10: Outlook 2026

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Based on the results for the first half of the year, we confirm our updated full-year guidance communicated in June.

Group earnings before tax are expected to decrease significantly.

In the Automotive Segment, we expect deliveries to decrease slightly and the EBIT margin to come in within a range of 1 to 3 percent.

This includes a burden of up to 1.25 percentage points for the workforce restructuring program agreed with the Works Council.

The EBIT margin in the Motorcycles Segment is expected to be between 4 and 6 percent.

In the Financial Services Segment, we expect a Return on Equity in the range of 13 to 16 percent.

More speed, more efficiency: BMW Group realigns for tougher competition

Munich. The BMW Group is maintaining a clear course in an increasingly competitive environment: Faced with a significant downturn in the Chinese market and an increasingly challenging operating environment worldwide, the company is accelerating and intensifying consequently measures to tackle enduring changes in the operating environment. As an initial and decisive step, the BMW Group has reached an agreement with the Works Council on an extensive workforce restructuring program including voluntary severance packages.

“The automotive industry is faced with rapidly escalating challenges – intense global competition, increasing regional regulatory requirements and the implications of geopolitical conflicts will shape our business model in the years ahead. That’s why it’s important to be lean and agile,” said Milan Nedeljković, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “We are working to reshape our organisation and processes, thereby positioning the company to stay competitive going forward.”

In the second quarter, the sharply negative market development in China, intensified competition, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, and the consequences of the continuing conflict in the Middle East clearly impacted the BMW Group’s business performance. Group pre-tax earnings (EBT) came in at €1,697 million (-35.1%) with an EBT margin of 5.4%; in H1, it was 6.5% (H1: €4,045 million; -29.4%). The EBIT margin in the Automotive Segment was 2.3%. Free cash flow in the segment totalled €513 million (-73.4%).

Global deliveries down slightly year-on-year; growth in Europe and the US

The BMW Group delivered a total of 1,156,727 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers worldwide in the first six months of the year (2025: 1,207,594 vehicles/-4.2%; in Q2: 590,947 vehicles/-4.9%).

The company reported growth in the first half of the year in the Sales Region Europe and in the USA (Europe: +5.4%; USA: +3.9%). Growth in both regions increased further in the second quarter (Europe: +7.6%; USA: +11.9%).

In the Sales Region China, the negative trend accelerated during the reporting period. The BMW Group also recorded a significant decrease in deliveries (H1: 261,773 units/-20.4%; Q2: 117,815 units/-30.2%).

MINI brand deliveries increased significantly during the reporting period, with growth of +17.1% and 81,032 vehicles delivered in the second quarter (2025: 69,223 vehicles/+17.1%; H1: 149,535 units; 2025: 133,838 units/+11.7%). Its fully-electric models contributed to this sales growth: Accounting for 36.9% of the brand’s total deliveries, more than one in every three MINIs sold in the first six months was fully electric (2025: 34.3%).

The BMW Group delivered a total of 116,807 fully-electric vehicles between April and June (2025: 111,070 vehicles/+5.2%, H1: 204,295 vehicles/-7.4%). As a result, nearly one in five vehicles delivered was fully electric (19.8%). In the Sales Region Europe, the positive sales performance continued following the launch of the BMW iX3* in early March: In the second quarter of 2026, total BEV sales in this region reached 81,500 vehicles, an increase of 37.9% compared to the previous year. Nearly one in three new vehicles delivered was fully electric (31.3%/2025: 24.4%).

Demand for the Neue Klasse continues to grow with every new model introduced: The BMW iX3, the first model of the Neue Klasse, is fully on track to reach the milestone of 100,000 orders since its sales launch.

The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, has equally recorded strong demand immediately following the start of the early ordering phase for the Launch Edition in June. Since their world premieres, the BMW 7 Series and the all-new BMW X5 have received extremely positive feedback. The new X5 will make the technologies of the Neue Klasse available in five drive train variants to deliver on different customer requirements worldwide.

“With the Neue Klasse and its technologies, we are bringing a strong product portfolio to market – innovative and at the forefront of technology. Customer feedback has been excellent, and demand remains consistently strong,” said CEO Nedeljković.

Lower Group revenues year-on-year – cost reduction achieved

For the first six months of 2026, the BMW Group reported revenues of €62,266 million (2025: €67,685 million/-8.0%,adjusted for currency translation effects -6.1%; Q2: €31,259 million (2025: €33,927 million/-7.9%, adjusted for currency translation effects -7.8%). Increased competitive pressure and lower sales volumes impacted the year-on-year comparison.

Research and development expenditure was further reduced, as planned, declining moderately year-on-year to €3,714 million in the first six months (H1 2025: €4,020 million/-7.6%; Q2: €1,959 million; 2025: €2,036 million/-3.8%).

As planned, capital expenditure was also significantly lower, amounting to €1,900 million for the first half of the year and €1,277 million in the second quarter (H1 2025: €2,736 million/-30.5%; Q2 2025: €1,534 million/-16.7%). The capex ratio for the first half-year came in at 3.1% (2025: 4.0%; Q2: 4.1%; Q2 2025: 4.5%).

As planned, the BMW Group also achieved a further moderate reduction in sales and administrative expenses, with costs declining to €4,777 million for the year to the end of June (2025: €5,089 million/-6.1%; Q2: €2,509 million; 2025: €2,700 million/-7.1%).

“Competition in the global automotive market has sharpened noticeably. Following cost savings of €2.5 billion last year, we are intensifying and accelerating our efficiency measures while implementing targeted structural measures. Our goal is to reduce complexity and establish a sustainably lower cost base,” said Walter Mertl, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Finance. “The targeted use of digitalisation and artificial intelligence is already generating positive momentum across all areas of the company. For example, within our Development division, we use industrial data combined with artificial intelligence to achieve shorter cycles in virtual vehicle validation, therefore unlocking greater data-driven value creation.”

Group half-year EBT margin at 6.5%

Group earnings before tax for the reporting period were significantly lower than the previous year, totalling €4,045 million (2025: €5,727 million/-29.4%; Q2: €1,697 million; 2025: € 2,614 million/-35.1%). The EBT margin for the first half of 2026 stood at 6.5% (2025: 8.5%/-2.0 percentage points/Q2: 5.4%; 2025: 7.7%/-2.3 percentage points).

In the Automotive Segment, lower sales volumes and intense competition weighed on revenue performance. During the first six months, Automotive Segment revenues declined moderately year-on-year to €54,321 million (2025: €58,654 million/-7.4%, adjusted for currency translation effects -5.4%; Q2: €27,162 million/2025: €29,443 million/-7.7%, adjusted for currency translation effects -7.8%).

Earnings before financial result (EBIT) for the first half of the year amounted to € 1,974 million (2025: €3,626 million/-45.6%; Q2: € 629 million; 2025: €1,602 million/-60.7%). Compared with the same period of the previous year, earnings were impacted by the negative market development in China, increased depreciation and amortisation, as well as currency and commodity headwinds, which could only be partially offset by cost reductions.

The EBIT margin for the second quarter came in at 2.3% (Q2 2025: 5.4%; H1: 3.6%; 2025: 6.2%). This includes headwinds of around 1.25 percentage points from expenses related to import duties (USA, EU), as well as around 1.2 percentage points from depreciation and amortisation of BBA assets resulting from the purchase price allocation.

Free cash flow of €1,290 million in first half-year

The Automotive Segment’s free cash flow for the first six months totalled €1,290 million (2025: €2,345 million/-45.0%; Q2: €513 million; 2025: €1,932 million/-73.4%). A free cash flow of >€2.5 billion is projected for the full year.

Financial Services Segment sees growth in new contracts

In the Financial Services Segment, the number of new financing and leasing contracts increased by 5.0% to 866,088 contracts (2025: 824,672 contracts; Q2: 445,876 contracts; 2025: 421,861 contracts/+5.7%).

The penetration rate rose to 52.9% (2025: 43.7%; Q2: 54.2% (2025: 44.4%).

For the year to the end of June, the segment reported profit before tax (PBT) of € 1,008 million (2025: €1,192 million/-15.4%). The year-on-year decline was attributable to an increase in the provision for a UK customer compensation programme in the first quarter. In the second quarter, substantially due to the higher portfolio volume and the resulting increase in interest income, Financial Services reported a significantly higher profit before tax of €627 million (2025: €542 million/+15.7%).

Guidance for 2026 confirmed

Against the backdrop of the challenges outlined above, the BMW Group confirms its guidance for the financial year 2026:

Automotive Segment EBIT margin: within the range of 1–3%
Group earnings before tax: significant decrease
Automotive Segment RoCE: within the range of 1–5%
Return on equity (RoE) in the Financial Services segment: 13-16%
Motorcycles segment: deliveries expected in line with previous year; EBIT margin expected within a corridor of 4.0–6.0% and RoCE within a corridor of 10–14%

The BMW Group’s actual business performance may deviate from the expectations outlined above – for example, due to changes in political and macroeconomic conditions.

GLOSSARY – explanatory comments on key performance indicators

Deliveries to customers

A new or used vehicle is recorded as a delivery once it is handed over to the end user (which also includes leaseholders under lease contracts with BMW Financial Services). In the US and Canada, end users also include (1) dealers when they designate a vehicle as a service loaner or demonstrator vehicle and (2) dealers and other third parties when they purchase a company vehicle at auction and dealers when they purchase company vehicles directly from the BMW Group. Deliveries may be made by BMW AG, one of its international subsidiaries, a BMW Group retail outlet, or independent third-party dealers. The vast majority of deliveries – and hence the reporting of deliveries to the BMW Group – is made by independent third-party dealers. Retail vehicle deliveries during a given reporting period do not correlate directly to the revenues that the BMW Group recognises in respect of that particular reporting period.

Payout ratio

The payout ratio is preliminary. Although the Board of Management and the Supervisory Board will propose a fixed dividend per share at the Annual General Meeting, the number of shares entitled to a dividend is expected to fall by the Annual General Meeting due to the ongoing share buy-back programme. Accordingly, the total amount to be distributed to shareholders is also still expected to change by 13 May.

25 years of MINI Design at the BMW Group: from the classic Mini to a new icon

Munich. How do you reinvent a design legend without losing its character? This question is explored in the new video, "From the Original to the Original – 25 Years of MINI Design”, available now on the BMW Group YouTube channel. The video tells the story of one of the most remarkable design journeys in the automotive industry: the evolution from the Classic Mini to the MINI produced by the BMW Group.

“The Mini remained virtually unchanged for 40 years. It was our task as designers to preserve its soul, while leading it into a new era – not as a copy, but as the new MINI with all the signature MINI characteristics,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design.

What the video reveals.
The video showcases design sketches, key decisions and personal insights. It features Adrian van Hooydonk and Holger Hampf, Head of MINI Design, as they explain why MINI is more than just a car: It is a lovable companion that combines functionality, driving fun, individuality and a cheeky charm. The fact that fans today also miss “typically MINI” elements introduced since 2001 illustrates how strongly the brand has developed its own reference points at the BMW Group.

“MINI has created its own icons over the years. This work is never finished – we must continue to carry it forward,” says Hampf.

Why this design legacy still matters today.
Over the decades, MINI has succeeded in transforming a strong idea into a distinctive brand that people love and with which they form an emotional connection. When Sir Alec Issigonis created the Classic Mini back in 1959, the focus was on optimum use of space, compact proportions, short overhangs, direct driving fun and a likeably cheeky character. Under the umbrella of the BMW Group from 2001 onwards, MINI did not become a retro product, but a new original: immediately recognisable, yet reinterpreted for a new era through technology, design and culture.

From design competition to a new icon.
Following its acquisition of Rover in 1994, the BMW Group faced a key question: How could the essence of the classic Mini be preserved, while giving it a new form? Designers at BMW and Rover explored a range of answers: from a consistent continuation of the original idea to a sporty, premium-oriented reinterpretation. That is how MINI evolved from a clever compact car into a style icon – with an emotionally engaging design and a strong personality.

What makes MINI Design unique.
MINI Design is about more than recognisability. Round headlights, compact proportions, short overhangs and MINI’s signature go-kart feeling remain at the heart of the brand to this day. These characteristics are complemented by lovable details, opportunities for customisation and a design that expresses personality.
“No MINI looks like any other. MINI gives people the opportunity to express their lifestyle and tell their own story,” says Hampf.

The brand continues to build on this idea with the current MINI Family. The “Charismatic Simplicity” design language, reduced to the essentials, enhances the character of each model, while providing the foundation for a wide variety of personalisation options.

In the MINI Cooper Electric, this is reflected in clearly sculpted surfaces, a puristic, modern body design and an interior that revisits the fundamental concept of the classic Mini: fewer components, a round Central Display and a compact steering wheel. In this way, the MINI brand is once again reinventing itself for the electric and digital future with its contemporary design.

The six-minute video is now available on the BMW Group YouTube channel. It marks a special year for MINI, in which the brand will also celebrate 25 years of production of the modern MINI and its British roots with the limited MINI Cooper Oxford Edition.

“It may be holiday season, but our customer racing teams are certainly not thinking about taking a break. They continue to collect trophies with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and BMW M4 GT4 EVO across their respective championships. A great example was last weekend at Mugello, where BMW Italia Ceccato Racing, Casals Motorsport and Promodrive enjoyed success in the Italian GT Championship and the GT4 Italy Series. FK Performance Motorsport also delivered an outstanding performance in ADAC GT4 Germany at Oschersleben, securing two podium finishes and taking the lead in the drivers’ standings. On the other side of the globe, in Australia, the BMW M4 GT4 EVO also finished on the podium. The weekend before had already brought further success for our customer racing teams in the International GT Open and the GT4 European Series.”

Italian GT Championship (24th-26th July): Klingmann and de Wilde claim an important victory at Mugello.

BMW M works driver Jens Klingmann (GER) and BMW Italia Ceccato Racing continued their successful campaign and their road to the title in the Italian GT Championship. The third Sprint Cup event of the season took place last weekend at Mugello (ITA). Klingmann shared driving duties this time with fellow BMW M works driver Ugo de Wilde (BEL). The pair claimed victory in Sunday’s race aboard the #7 BMW M4 GT3 EVO after finishing fifth in Saturday’s race. With this successful weekend, BMW Italia Ceccato Racing regained the championship lead.

“For us, Mugello was a very important weekend, a real key event,” Klingmann said. “We were very happy with fifth place on Saturday. After our victory at Vallelunga, we had to serve the 15-second pit stop penalty stipulated by the regulations. So, Saturday was all about maximising our points haul and avoiding mistakes. On Sunday, we went all in with one clear objective: to win the race. The team did a fantastic job, and everything also went flawlessly with Ugo. As a result, we scored a lot of valuable points. That’s why I call it a key event: it was the penultimate round of the Italian GT Sprint season, and we now head into the finale as the championship leaders. That’s the position we’ve earned, and the position we wanted to be in. Now the goal is to bring the championship home and secure the title for Ceccato Racing and BMW M Motorsport for the third time. We’re really looking forward to the season finale at Monza, where we’ve enjoyed some excellent results over the past few years.”

Their BMW Italia Ceccato Racing teammates Anthony McIntosh (USA) and Parker Thompson (CAN) also had plenty to celebrate in the GT3 Pro-Am class. Driving the #8 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, they claimed class victory on Sunday after already finishing third in class on Saturday.

The GT4 Italy Series also held two races as part of the Mugello weekend, and the Italian pairing of Giacomo Maman and Gustavo Sandrucci from Casals Motorsport proved unbeatable. Driving the #16 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, they won both races to secure their third and fourth victories of the season. In race one, their teammates Sebastian Gavazza and Luca Esposito (both ITA) joined them on the podium, finishing third in the #65 BMW M4 GT4 EVO. In race two, third place went to Andrea Palazzo (ITA) and Aiva Anagnostiadis (AUS) in the #27 BMW M4 GT4 EVO entered by Promodrive.

ADAC GT4 Germany (24th-26th July): Piana and Sylvestersson move into the championship lead.

Gabriele Piana (ITA) and Benjamin Sylvestersson (FIN) secured two podium finishes during the third round of the ADAC GT4 Germany season at Oschersleben (GER). The FK Performance Motorsport duo finished third in Saturday’s race before completing a double podium weekend with second place on Sunday in the #51 BMW M4 GT4 EVO. As a result, they moved into the lead of the drivers’ standings at the halfway point of the season, holding a one-point advantage.

“Overall, we can be very happy with the weekend,” Sylvestersson said afterwards. “Regaining the championship lead is a great result. Today’s race was anything but easy, but the team did a fantastic job and we made the most of our opportunities. Our focus now shifts to the Nürburgring, where we want to build on this performance and hopefully achieve another strong result.”

In the teams’ standings, FK Performance Motorsport sits second after six of twelve races, just ahead of ME Motorsport, who also scored valuable points at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. On Sunday, Linus Hahne and Phillip Wiskirchen (both GER) narrowly missed the podium in the #77 BMW M4 GT4 EVO after finishing sixth on Saturday and collecting important championship points. Their teammates Leon Bauchmüller (GER) and Lukas Stiefelhagen (NED) finished inside the top ten in both races with the #66 BMW M4 GT4 EVO.

There was also success in the Pro-Am category for Michael Maniszewski (GER) and Daniel Drexel (AUT). The razoon – more than racing pairing won their class on Saturday before finishing second in class on Sunday in the #10 BMW M4 GT4 EVO.

GT4 European Series ( 17th-19th July): Three class podium finishes at Misano.

In temperatures well above 30 degrees Celsius, the GT4 European Series headed to Misano (ITA) for its fourth round of the season. BMW M Racing Academy member Thomi Rackl (GER) and his Italian teammate Gabriele Piana, who had celebrated a double victory at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), were once again in contention for a podium finish. However, the Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport duo narrowly missed out in the #12 BMW M4 GT4 EVO, with fourth place in race two following a difficult opening race.

In the Pro-Am class, the BMW M4 GT4 EVO recorded three podium finishes. Sweden’s Joakim Walde and Victor Bouveng finished second in the opening race in the #98 Schubert Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 EVO. Davide Meloni and Paolo Meloni (both ITA) claimed third place in class in both races with the #53 BMW M4 GT4 EVO entered by W&D Racing Team.

“BMW ART CARS – 20 ARTISTS, 50 YEARS OF INNOVATION. REUNITED AT BMW WELT”: Exhibition opens in Munich.

Munich. For the first time ever,all BMW Art Cars are brought together in one place: with the exhibition “BMW ART CARS – 20 ARTISTS, 50 YEARS OF INNOVATION. REUNITED AT BMW WELT”, BMW is presenting the complete series of “rolling sculptures” in Munich from 29 July to 31 August 2026, honouring the collection’s 50th anniversary. The opening today, Tuesday 28 July 2026, also marks the conclusion of the BMW Art Car World Tour, which has showcased the collection at venues in over 30 countries worldwide. A particular highlight of the exhibition is Olafur Eliasson’s “BMW H2R Project”, which, since its world premiere in 2007, has only been presented to the public as a complete installation on three occasions. In Munich, the exhibition is also being promoted in the city through a poster campaign featuring the colour-coded photo series of the BMW Art Cars by photographer René Staud.

The BMW Art Car Collection began in 1975: on the initiative of the French racing driver and art auctioneer Hervé Poulain and Jochen Neerpasch, then Head of BMW Motorsport, the artist Alexander Calder designed a racing car.

“When we prepared the first automotive art installation with Alexander Calder for the 24-hour race at Le Mans, we assumed it would be a one-off event. But even when the artwork was created and the Calder BMW 3.0 CSL was presented in Paris, and certainly when it was racing at Le Mans, we were convinced that it would not be the last art project involving cars. I would never have dreamed that it would become the world's most important automotive art series.” Jochen Neerpasch

With its iconic architecture and its role as a place of encounter, BMW Welt provides the ideal setting for the most comprehensive presentation to date of the BMW Art Car Collection in a venue open to the public. Works by iconic artists such as Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Esther Mahlangu, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Jeff Koons, Cao Fei and Julie Mehretu make the collection a vibrant panorama of the most important voices in modern and contemporary art. At the same time, these “rolling sculptures” – from the BMW 3.0 CSL to the BMW Z1, right through to the BMW M Hybrid V8 – offer a cross-section of BMW’s design and technological history.

An exhibition tour through 50 years of BMW Art Car history.
The exhibition takes the audience on a journey that begins with the most recent work and leads back to the origins of the collection. Right from the entrance area, introductory video documentaries bring the history and significance of the BMW Art Car Collection to life. The exhibition opens by focusing on two of the collection’s most recent additions: the BMW Art Car #20 by Julie Mehretu and the BMW Art Car #19 by John Baldessari. Julie Mehretu’s BMW Art Car project illustrates that the series now extends far beyond the automobile: alongside creating her BMW M Hybrid V8, she co-founded the African Film and Media Arts Collective (AFMAC) with film producer and screenwriter Mehret Mandefro. The initiative supports artists and filmmakers from Africa and the diaspora; the first major exhibition is set to open in December 2026 at the Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town.

As the tour continues, the exhibition in the auditorium unfolds as a chronological journey through the decades. A timeline on the walls, leading back into the past, frames the presentation and makes the development of the collection just as traceable as the various artistic and technological contexts in which it was created. The exhibition concludes with the first BMW Art Cars displayed on a podium, with Alexander Calder’s BMW Art Car #1 – the collection’s starting point – taking centre stage.

A highlight is Olafur Eliasson’s “BMW H2R Project” (BMW Art Car #16) on the East forecourt. BMW Welt is only the fourth location worldwide where this artwork – based on a hydrogen prototype – has been publicly displayed as a “frozen” installation since its world premiere in 2007. Eliasson replaced the bodywork of the BMW H2R with a mesh-like structure made of reflective metal and coated it with several layers of frozen water. The entire structure weighs around two tonnes and is illuminated from within – a poetic reflection on sustainability.

Digital exhibition guides.
The exhibition is complemented by a digital offering from BMW Welt that combines art, technology and interaction. The digital application Treasure Hunt invites visitors to discover the BMW Art Cars playfully. After scanning just five BMW Art Cars, an exclusive voucher is unlocked; once registered, this can be redeemed on site for a refreshment at “Cooper’s Garden.” The Treasure Hunt combines exploration with in-depth information on art, design and innovation, enhancing the exhibition experience in an entertaining way.

Debrecen, Hungary. BMW Group Plant Debrecen has produced the 50,000th BMW iX3. Just a few months after the start of series production, the plant has thus reached an important milestone in the ramp-up of the first series-production model of the Neue Klasse.

“The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen: Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant. This milestone is the result of an outstanding team effort,” said Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Production.

The rapid ramp-up was significantly accelerated by the introduction of the second shift, which started in February 2026 – well ahead of schedule. This was the BMW Group’s response to the high demand the BMW iX3 has been experiencing since its market launch. Supported by strong customer orders, the company is on track to soon reach the next important milestone of 100,000 incoming orders.

New model, new architecture, new plant

As the first series-production vehicle of the Neue Klasse, the BMW iX3 also marks the start of a new vehicle architecture – in a completely newly built plant. The plant thus plays a key role in the further scaling of the Neue Klasse across the BMW Group’s production network.

Plant Debrecen’s pioneering role – other plants benefit from its experience

The pioneering experiences from the launch of the first Neue Klasse model provide Plant Debrecen and the other BMW Group plants worldwide with valuable insights for the upcoming launches.

“Each of our plants benefits from launch experiences we have made at Plant Debrecen. By the end of 2027, we will launch 40 new or updated models. Efficiency, speed, and quality are crucial for the successful launch of all vehicles. Knowledge transfer between our production sites worldwide is a key lever,” said Wittmann.

To achieve this, the BMW Group relies on close collaboration among its production sites. Insights from one plant flow directly into the global network and support the ramp-up of further models. This enables potential quality deviations, for example, to be identified and avoided at an early stage – before they recur at another location. Digital tools and a shared database provide the foundation for this.

Munich. “Spider-Man™: Brand New Day”, the latest instalment in one of the world’s most successful film franchises, will be released exclusively in cinemas on 31 July 2026. Key parts are played by the new BMW iX3, the first Neue Klasse model, and the BMW 5 Series Sedan. Both vehicles are not only visible, but woven into the plot of the new film, enabling them to connect with a global fan base. The partnership underlines the BMW commitment to combining innovation, technology and cultural relevance.

Spider-Man™ is one of the world’s most popular superheroes, and the films attract a cross-generational audience of millions. Unsurprisingly, the latest instalment is generating a great deal of attention. The official trailer alone set a new benchmark, becoming the first movie trailer to surpass one billion views in four days.

With the BMW iX3 Flow – Spider-Man Brand New Day, BMW has produced a unique one-off vehicle to celebrate the new Spider-Man™ movie. This special BMW iX3 was developed in close collaboration with Sony/Marvel and transfers the visual world of Spider-Man™ to the vehicle’s exterior. Using dynamic graphics and full-colour E Ink Prism™ elements, it brings the title character to life. Inspired by Spider-Man’s™ moves, energy and cinematic universe, the animated exterior transforms the vehicle into a part of the story itself: bold, agile and full of character. To celebrate the partnership with Spider-Man™: Brand New Day, BMW has a special surprise for its drivers. The Spider-Man™ Animation will be available (in participating markets) to all customers with suitably equipped vehicles from 27 July to 10 August. The teaser film “The Big Screen” centres on a father and son watching the news about Spider-Man™ while their BMW iX3 is charging. When the boy suddenly spots the superhero on a skyscraper, his father initially thinks it’s just a bit of Spider-Man™ graffiti. But seconds later, Spider-Man™ actually lands on the bonnet of the BMW before returning to his mission. With a confident smirk, the son says to his father: “Told you.” The car’s features blend seamlessly into the plot, supporting the story rather than taking centre stage. The result is far more than a traditional co-branding exercise: it’s a campaign that combines entertainment with innovation, the thrilling, action-packed world of Spider-Man™ with the new BMW models. Filmed in London with Spider-Man™ stunt double Luke Scott, the teaser was directed by the duo Hot Icarus and produced by Parasol Island. First glimpse into production: BMW Group Plant Woodruff assembles high-voltage batteries for the new BMW iX5

Woodruff, South Carolina, USA. In December, the new BMW Group Plant Woodruff will begin series production of high-voltage batteries for the new fully-electric BMW iX5. As part of the vehicle’s world premiere, the company offered a first glimpse of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. With AI-supported production processes, digital twins and virtual reality applications, the new plant is setting industry standards for the assembly of high-voltage batteries.

Site strengthens electromobility in the US and footprint in South Carolina

“Plant Woodruff plays a key role in the ramp-up of electromobility in the US,” said Raymond Wittman, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production. “With our Gen6 high-voltage battery, we’re not only taking a major technological leap – we are also setting new standards in production. In Woodruff, we are combining cutting-edge processes, artificial intelligence and the expertise of our employees to create a production facility designed for the highest quality.”

“With Plant Woodruff, we are further expanding our footprint in South Carolina and strengthening the close integration of battery and vehicle production,” said Robert Engelhorn, President and CEO of BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC. “This creates the ideal foundation for the next generation of fully electric BMW X models assembled at Plant Spartanburg.”

Intelligent production for maximum quality

The BMW Group has established state-of-the-art, intelligent and efficient production processes for its in-house developed sixth-generation (Gen6) high-voltage battery. The new cylindrical round cells are integrated directly into the high-voltage battery, based on the “cell-to-pack” principle. All production steps are continuously monitored inline and comprehensively documented in real time. In-house developed AI assistants and agents analyse this data and, together with more than 300 employees and 250 robots at Plant Woodruff, ensure the zero-defect battery production. At the same time, the extensive use of artificial intelligence enhances Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in production. Well before commissioning, digital twins of production and virtual reality applications support planning and employee training.

Training in a virtual factory

All production staff at Plant Woodruff complete a VR training program developed on site. Within a virtual factory, they can practice real manufacturing operations under realistic conditions. This virtual environment replicates the plant’s production lines in meticulous detail, requiring only a set of VR goggles and a PC. The training helps employees develop an understanding of relevant processes and builds confidence in operating the equipment before using the actual manufacturing systems for the first time.

Just three years from start of construction to series production

Following the official groundbreaking in June 2023, construction of the new plant began in September 2023. In September 2024, while construction was still under way, installation of the manufacturing equipment commenced. Preparations for production started in summer 2025, and the first test and pre-series batteries have been rolling off the assembly line since then. The series launch is scheduled for December 2026. “Plant Woodruff demonstrates how quickly we can scale a new battery concept to industrial production,” said Rich Everly, Vice President of Production at BMW Group Plant Woodruff. “The key factor is the synergy between a skilled and dedicated team and the continuous exchange of experience within the production network.”

Gen6 battery cells with reduced carbon footprint

The Gen6 battery cells used in the BMW iX5’s high-voltage battery include a high proportion of secondary materials in the cobalt, lithium and nickel content. Renewable energy is also used in the production of anode and cathode materials, as well as in cell manufacturing. Compared with the Gen5 cell used in the BMW iX, CO₂e emissions have been reduced by around 28 percent per watt-hour. Plant Woodruff does not use any fossil fuels during normal operations, while the site’s industrial trucks are powered by hydrogen.

Global production strategy: local for local

Installation of the Gen6 high-voltage batteries takes place at five new production facilities, which the BMW Group is building close to its vehicle plants, in line with its “local for local” principle. In addition to Woodruff, state-of-the-art high-voltage battery assembly plants are also being built in Irlbach-Straßkirchen (Lower Bavaria), Shenyang (China) and San Luis Potosí (Mexico). The latest generation of high-voltage batteries has been in series production in Debrecen, Hungary, since October 2025. This “local for local” approach strengthens regional infrastructure and existing facilities and helps secure jobs. The global production network for high-voltage batteries benefits from close collaboration between the German pilot plants and series production facilities worldwide.

How the BMW Group assembles its Gen6 high-voltage batteries

The BMW Group sources battery cells for its high-voltage batteries from leading cell manufacturers. The highest technical standards apply. Upon receipt of goods, additional measurements – such as voltage checks – are carried out. Next comes so-called cell clustering, where the battery cells are connected to coolers. This step ensures optimal insulation and cooling of the cells. The cell clusters and cell contact system are then laser-cleaned and welded with pinpoint precision. The inline inspection continuously monitors each weld seam in real time. An innovative foaming process follows, ensuring that all elements are protected as a mechanical unit. The hardened foam guarantees the safety, stability and durability of the high-voltage battery. The housing is then closed, sealed and riveted. In the final assembly step, the Energy Master – the central control unit – is installed onto the high-voltage battery. A permanently elastic sealing adhesive is applied to ensure a reliable seal. Finally, each high-voltage battery undergoes a 100% end-of-line inspection. From Woodruff, the high-voltage batteries are transported to Plant Spartanburg, located just 15 miles away.

The BMW iX5's high-voltage battery: 800-volt, with high energy content

The first battery-electric BMW iX5 is based on sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, featuring round cells and 800-volt technology. With an available energy content of 144 kWh in the US and 141 kWh in the EU (net), the BMW iX5 60 xDrive boasts the largest high-voltage battery of any fully-electric BMW model to date. Propulsion is provided by e-drives on both the front and rear axles, and by the electric BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.

These combine the technical innovations and exciting design of the BMW X5 with the future-oriented technologies of the Neue Klasse and features that have been designed to meet the expectations of the Chinese car market and its customers.

Exclusive comfort on wheelbase extended by 130 millimetres
The most important distinguishing feature of this model variant for the Chinese market is the extended wheelbase. This is 130 millimetres longer than the wheelbase in the BMW X5 model variants available elsewhere in the world, with a total length of 3,165 mm.

This long wheelbase delivers an even more comfortable and stable driving experience, while also providing a more spacious cabin environment with plenty of legroom, especially in the rear compartment. It also underlines the unmistakeable proportions of the BMW X5 and BMW iX5, adding a dash of elegance when viewed from the side and contributing to a particularly self-assured appearance.

Distinctive design characteristics for BMW X5 and BMW iX5.
The striking diagonal light icons are another distinctive design characteristic of the BMW X5 and the BMW iX5 for China. According to personal preference, customers can also request to switch to light icons with a double-X design. Additional light strips between the light icons and the BMW kidney Iconic Glow emphasise the depth effect inherent in the design of the front end and also form part of the dynamic welcome and goodbye animations.

The BMW X5 also boasts a front end redesigned for the Chinese market.

Interior combines luxurious comfort with the intelligence of the Neue Klasse.
The BMW X5 and the BMW iX5 for the Chinese market also feature a new, clearly-structured interior design concept with streamlined surfaces and refined decorative elements. Wide-ranging adjustments based on a new, monochromatic colour concept elevate the relaxed interior ambience to a new level. Specially developed seating for both front passenger and rear occupants also improve ride comfort. Premium materials such as slate and glass blend with the inviting atmosphere of the cockpit to underscore the luxurious spatial concept, incorporating highlights powered by the technologies of the Neue Klasse, in the form of the three-dimensional backlit accent strip with integrated ambient lighting.

The new BMW Panoramic iDrive display with BMW Operating System X is integrated seamlessly into the interior design with BMW Panoramic Vision, a free-cut Central Display that appears to float, and the BMW Passenger Screen available for the BMW X5 for the first time. Digital innovations, specifically adjusted to the requirements and expectations of Chinese customers, blend with the relaxed ambience to deliver a unified, harmonious experience. The next iteration of BMW Theatre Screen is a true highlight in the Chinese models, delivering top-quality entertainment to the rear compartment with 8K streaming and gaming and significantly simplifying mobile working in the car with the video call function.

Focus on driving pleasure in all models.
Regardless of the type of drivetrain, the BMW X5 and BMW iX5 continue to boast the driving pleasure that is typical of BMW. Both benefit from adaptive two-axle air suspension as standard, which absorbs the effect of uneven surfaces to provide a particularly comfortable driving experience. For more than 20 years, BMW has been a pioneer in the development of driver assistance systems, always placing safety and reliability under complex, real-world conditions at the forefront. For the new generation of intelligent BMW driver assistance in China, BMW combines decades of experience in functional integration and operational safety with the strengths of locally trained end-to-end AI, developed in partnership with the Chinese company Momenta. The result is a unique system for navigation-guided “Address-to-Address” driver assistance. The central computer for automated driving works in harmony with “Heart of Joy”.

For the first time, the new combustion-engine BMW X5 will be available in China alongside the all-electric BMW iX5 featuring innovative sixth-generation
BMW eDrive Technology. In conjunction with the high-voltage battery concept, this enables confident, effortless electric travel with a range over 1,000 km (CLTC). Market launch is scheduled for 2027.

DTM Oschersleben: Team Schubert Motorsport narrowly misses out on podium at home event.

Oschersleben. BMW M Motorsport and Team Schubert Motorsport narrowly missed out on the podium at the team's home event at Oschersleben (GER). Marco Wittmann (GER) battled for a top-three finish throughout Sunday's race, but ultimately lacked the pace to put the competition under decisive pressure. As a result, the 36-year-old had to settle for fourth place in the #11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO in the second race of the weekend. Kelvin van der Linde (RSA) finished seventh in both races as he returned to DTM action following his heavy accident at the Norisring (GER).

Wittmann lined up third on the grid for Sunday's race after a strong qualifying performance but lost one position at the start. He remained within striking distance of the podium for much of the race but, despite having fresher tyres, was unable to launch a decisive attack and ultimately narrowly missed out on a podium finish. Van der Linde was unfortunate in qualifying due to traffic and could do no better than seventh on the grid, a position he maintained throughout the race.

On Saturday, Wittmann and van der Linde started from 13th and 15th respectively. In the #3 Shell BMW M4 GT3 EVO, van der Linde produced a strong comeback drive, gaining eight positions to finish seventh – the same result he achieved on Sunday. Wittmann worked his way up to eighth in the opening stages before being forced to retire with a tyre failure.

Team Schubert Motorsport received special support on Sunday from Maxime Estève. The French summer signing of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig had been invited by BMW M Motorsport and cheered on the team from the pit garage during its home event.

ADAC GT4 Germany: Piana and Sylvestersson celebrate double podium.

Gabriele Piana (ITA) and Benjamin Sylvestersson (FIN) secured a double podium for FK Performance Motorsport in the ADAC GT4 Germany. The duo finished third in the #51 BMW M4 GT4 EVO on Saturday before claiming second place on Sunday. As a result, Piana and Sylvestersson moved into the lead of the drivers' championship.

Reactions after the race weekend:

Björn Lellmann (Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport): “Unfortunately, it was a disappointing weekend. We had hoped for more at Torsten Schubert's home circuit. The team welcomed many guests throughout the weekend, and we would have loved to reward them with a podium finish. On Saturday, we had very few opportunities. Kelvin had a fantastic drive to gain eight positions, but the points haul was still rather modest. Our strategy on Sunday did not work out exactly as planned, although it's always easier to judge in hindsight. I am proud of the team's performance – the pit stops were excellent. Nevertheless, it simply wasn't enough. Oschersleben is a difficult place to overtake. We need to come back fighting at the next race. I'm delighted about the two podiums for FK Performance Motorsport, Gabriele Piana and Benjamin Sylvestersson in the ADAC GT4 Germany, which also put them at the top of the drivers' standings. That's a nice consolation."

Torsten Schubert (Team Principal, Schubert Motorsport): “We had an incredible number of spectators throughout the weekend, which was fantastic. It was great to be back racing here at Oschersleben. Of course, we would have loved to finish on the podium. After the tyre failure on Saturday, we had a bit more luck with the cars today. However, Marco showed that, even with better tyres, it still wasn't enough. Oschersleben is certainly a very challenging circuit when it comes to overtaking, but I still hoped we would find a way through the Porsche. Perhaps we should have stayed out a little longer during the first pit stop. We'll analyse that because I believe the podium was within reach."

Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Race 1: DNF, Race 2: 4th place): “It was a difficult weekend, especially physically - my stomach issues were the biggest challenge. A huge thank you to BMW M Motorsport, Team Schubert Motorsport and everyone who had my back throughout the weekend. The tyre failure on Saturday was simply bad luck. When you start that far up the grid on Sunday, you naturally want to secure a home podium for Team Schubert Motorsport, but we just didn't have the pace. Despite the tyre advantage from Saturday, we weren't able to put enough pressure on the cars ahead. In the end, fourth place was the maximum we could achieve."

Kelvin van der Linde (#3 Shell BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Race 1: 7th, Race 2: 7th): “It was a mixed weekend with two seventh-place finishes in front of Schubert Motorsport's home crowd. I'm proud of the team because they extracted the maximum from the package. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for more. I'm really looking forward to the Nürburgring and hope we can fight for another win this season."
