Anniversary exhibition “BMW ART CARS – 20 ARTISTS, 50 YEARS OF INNOVATION. REUNITED AT BMW WELT” concluded on 31 August with a record-breaking attendance of over 120,000 visitors.

Munich. More than 120,000 visitors enjoyed the opportunity to experience the iconic “rolling sculptures” free of charge from 29 July to 31 August 2026 at BMW Welt, ranging from Alexander Calder (1975) to Julie Mehretu (2024). A particular highlight was Olafur Eliasson’s “BMW H2R Project”. The artwork, based on a hydrogen-powered prototype, was presented publicly as a complete “frozen” installation for the fourth time since its world premiere in 2007. New content in the BMW Welt App and selected BMW Art Cars as widgets in the BMW Panoramic iDrive will now create additional digital access points to the collection.

The exhibition marked the finale of the BMW Art Car World Tour, which has, since March 2025, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the BMW Art Car Collection. A global exhibition programme spanning more than 30 countries across five continents paid tribute to the unique connection between art, design and automobiles.

“Over the past few weeks, more than 120,000 visitors have demonstrated how art can bring people together and inspire them. It was especially rewarding to see people of all ages discover these unique vehicles. This tremendous response also highlights the special appeal of BMW Welt as a meeting place for culture, design, society and the automobile,” says Sandra Wittemer, Head of BMW Welt.

The BMW Art Cars will remain accessible online after the end of the anniversary exhibition: From September 30, 2026, the BMW Welt App will offer selected content on the creation and history of the collection, as well as extensive image and video material. This will enable users to explore the evolution of the BMW Art Cars over five decades anytime, anywhere.

For the first time ever, the collection is also being incorporated into current production vehicles, opening up an additional digital dimension. In the new BMW Panoramic iDrive, five selected BMW Art Cars can be integrated as widgets into the individually configurable display of BMW Panoramic Vision in almost all markets. Users can select their preferred Art Car and make it a personal part of their digital driving experience. BMW Panoramic Vision projects content clearly across the entire width of the windscreen, from A-pillar to A-pillar. The selected Art Car appears alongside other individually configurable information and applications. As a result, the artworks become mobile and easily accessible as a defining visual element within the interior of the vehicle.

The “rolling sculptures” will also remain on the move physically and continue to be displayed in changing constellations around the world. Beginning September 3, BMW Art Car #6 by Robert Rauschenberg will be on display at the BMW Museum in Munich. BMW Art Car #20 by Julie Mehretu will be presented in Cape Town in December as part of the African Film and Media Arts Collective (AFMAC), which was initiated jointly by the artist and the BMW Group. The exhibition “Turning Towards the Sun” will be on view at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town from December 11, 2026, through August 15, 2027.

The presentation at BMW Welt traced five decades of artistic engagement with art and design, technology and innovation, motorsport and engineering. The BMW Art Car Collection was founded in 1975 when French racing driver and art auctioneer Hervé Poulain, together with Jochen Neerpasch, then Head of BMW Motorsport, invited artist Alexander Calder to transform a race car into a work of art. The resulting BMW 3.0 CSL competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1975 and quickly became a crowd favourite. Today, the collection comprises 20 artworks. Renowned artists including Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Esther Mahlangu, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Jeff Koons, Cao Fei and Julie Mehretu have each contributed their own artistic perspective to the project.

The BMW Art Car exhibition at BMW Welt marked the finale of the BMW Art Car World Tour, the largest exhibition project in the history of the collection to date.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BMW Art Cars, a global exhibition programme took place across five continents from March 2025 onwards. With 60 stops in more than 30 countries, the touring BMW Art Cars attracted more than two million visitors at leading art fairs, museums, motorsport events and cultural institutions worldwide. Highlights included Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Dubai, Auto Shanghai, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Le Mans Classic, the Louwman Museum in The Hague, Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and The Bridge in the United States, Contemporary Istanbul, the Zoute Grand Prix in Belgium, the ADI Design Museum in Milan, Rétromobile in Paris, the RAD Art Fair in Bucharest, and the Market Art Fair in Stockholm. Prior to the closing exhibition in Munich, the BMW Art Car World Tour also stopped at the Classic Car House in Copenhagen and at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como and the Munich Opera Festival.

Superbike World Championship: Miguel Oliveira continues with the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team.

Munich. BMW Motorrad Motorsport has made an important decision for the upcoming season in the FIM Superbike World Championship: Miguel Oliveira (POR) will continue to race the BMW M 1000 RR for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team in 2027 and beyond. Oliveira joined BMW Motorrad Motorsport and WorldSBK in 2026 after seven years in MotoGP. In his first season as a factory rider with the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, the Portuguese rider has already secured four podium finishes.

After missing two race events in May and June due to a serious shoulder injury sustained in a crash at the Balaton Park Circuit (HUN), Oliveira has since been working intensively with BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the team on his comeback and his return to the podium. This close collaboration will now continue on a long-term basis.

Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport: “We are in the middle of the 2026 season, but alongside our intensive preparations for the upcoming races, it is important for us to plan for the future. We are delighted to continue our partnership with Miguel over the coming years. I myself was a guest in Okayama last weekend and was able to celebrate the fantastic class victories of Team KRC in the GT World Challenge Asia – as well as the first podium of the year for Team PLUS with BMW M Team Studie. Also in Asia, the previous week saw the sensational victory for the Pacific Racing Team in SUPER GT. Added to this were the great successes of Team WRT in the GT World Challenge Europe. Wherever you look, the BMW M Motorsport family is racing from one success to the next. That makes me very happy!"

US Racing: Wins and podiums in the IMSA Series and SRO America

Two race weekends in the USA, two triumphs for Turner Motorsport with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. On 23rd August, Robby Foley and Patrick Gallagher (both USA) finished second in the GTD class in car #96 at the all-GT event of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Virginia International Raceway (USA). In the overall standings, this also means second place with two races to go – just 36 points behind the leaders. In the GTD-PRO class, Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen (both USA) finished fifth in the #1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from Paul Miller Racing, maintaining their lead in the overall standings of their category. Turner Motorsport also made it onto the podium with the BMW M4 GT4 EVO. In the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race, Luca Mars and Dillon Machavern (both USA) finished third.

Last weekend, Turner Motorsport went one better at Road America (USA). In the three-hour GT World Challenge America powered by AWS race, Robby Foley, this time alongside Justin Rothberg (USA) in the #29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, took a commanding victory. It was the duo’s second triumph in their first season together in the Pro category. In the overall standings, Foley and Rothberg are just four points behind in second place.

At the SRO America race weekend, GT4 America and GT America were also on the schedule – with successes for the BMW M Motorsport teams and the BMW M4 GT4 EVO in both. In GT4 America, the teams Random Vandals Racing, Auto Technic Racing, and Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard all achieved podium finishes in their classes. Among others, BMW M Racing Academy participant Josh Green (USA) finished third in the highest Silver category alongside Bruno Colombo (USA) in Saturday’s race. On Sunday, they finished fourth. Craig Lumsden (USA) added to his two Am podiums in GT4 America for Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard by taking first place twice in the GT4 class of GT America.

Top topic: An interview with Robby Foley.

Robby Foley is living proof that with talent and hard work, you can rise from being a BMW M Motorsport customer racer to a BMW M works driver. He has been racing very successfully for Turner Motorsport for many years in both the IMSA Series and the GT World Challenge America – in both GT3 and GT4 cars. Supporting young American privateer drivers is especially close to his heart. Fittingly, he is also a passionate mentor and part of the BMW M Racing Academy, the support programme for young customer racers, which will soon begin the selection process for the “Class of 2027.”

Robby, let’s start with the IMSA Series: How do you look back on the recent podium and the season as a whole?

Robby Foley: “The podium at VIR was very good, especially since we didn’t have the fastest car in the race. The result gives us good prospects in the title fight ahead of the last two races, with the top four crews very close together. Overall, the season is a huge improvement over 2025. The team has a good handle on the BMW M4 GT3 EVO’s set-up, and we’ve been consistently strong. We’ve already been on the podium three times, only the win is missing. Now we have to carry this momentum into the final stretch of the season.”

You compete at IMSA weekends in both the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and the BMW M4 GT4 EVO. How big is the adjustment?

Foley: “It’s generally tricky, but I’ve been doing it for a few years now and have a good rhythm. However, the difference in tyres is quite big at the moment. That mainly affects the braking points. But I’ve gotten used to that quickly as well.”

In your first year in the Pro category of the GT World Challenge America, things are going very well after the recent win, right?

Foley: “Yes. We had a great weekend at Road America recently. Our BMW M4 GT3 EVO was very strong from the start. Now we’re also in a good position in the championship. There are only two races left, but since double points are awarded at the Indianapolis 8 Hour, the title fight is still wide open. It’s great to see how quickly Justin Rothberg has adapted to the Pro class and raised his performance level significantly. The same goes for the team. Big compliments to everyone!”

How stressful is the racing driver’s life when you’re competing in three series at once?

Foley: “I’m definitely never bored. At least the two IMSA programmes always take place on the same weekends, which makes things a bit easier. With all the race events, tests, and other activities like the BMW M Racing Academy, I end up travelling 30 to 35 weeks a year. It’s intense, but I enjoy it.”

Speaking of the BMW M Racing Academy: Why is the support programme so important to you?

Foley: “I can really identify with the programme’s approach of supporting private drivers, because that’s exactly where I come from. I was a privateer myself when I first raced a BMW M Motorsport car in 2018. I can really relate to the young talents we work with. In a way, I’m the example of how you can make it from customer racing to works driver. In the current ‘Class of 2026,’ I work closely with Josh Green, who races in GT4 America. I’m really looking forward to meeting the new class soon.”

GT World Challenge Asia (28th-30th August): Team KRC scored a total of three class wins with its two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs in the races at Okayama (JPN). Maxime Oosten (NED) and Brian Lee (TPE) won the Silver-Am class both times. In the second race, they also finished third overall. BMW M works driver Neil Verhagen (USA) and Ruan Cunfan (CHN) achieved the same result in the sister car in race one – equivalent to a Pro-Am class win. PLUS with BMW M Team Studie celebrated its first podium of the season with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO in the iconic BLEACH design.

GT World Challenge Europe Nürburgring: Overall podium and Silver Cup title for Team WRT, Gold Cup lead for ROWE Racing.

Nürburgring. A thrilling Endurance race in the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS at the Nürburgring (GER) ended successfully for the BMW M Motorsport crews in all categories. Kelvin van der Linde (RSA), Charles Weerts (BEL) and Jordan Pepper (RSA) finished second overall with the Team WRT #32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. In the Silver Cup, the crew of the #30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO – Matisse Lismont (BEL), Ignacio Montenegro (ARG) and Amaury Cordeel (BEL) – clinched the Endurance Cup title with second place in the race. Meanwhile, the trio of Jens Klingmann (GER), Tim Tramnitz (GER) and Ugo de Wilde (BEL) took the lead in the Endurance standings of the Gold Cup with the #998 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of ROWE Racing.

The three-hour race on the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit was characterised by several Safety Car periods. Starting from eighth on the grid, Pepper, Weerts and van der Linde steadily worked their way up the field. The reward: second place and the crew’s first podium of the Endurance Cup season. Their team-mates Max Hesse (GER), Valentino Rossi (ITA) and Dan Harper (GBR) also finished in the top ten, taking ninth place in the #46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO.

In the Silver Cup, Lismont, Montenegro and Cordeel underlined their ambitions of securing the title with pole position. Once again, they delivered a flawless race, finishing second in their category and thereby becoming Endurance champions.

For ROWE Racing, taking the lead in the Gold Cup provided a bright spot on a difficult weekend. Klingmann, de Wilde and Tramnitz, who had claimed class victory at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), finished fourth in their category with the #998 BMW M4 GT3 EVO. This was enough to move them into first place in the Endurance standings. Their team-mates Raffaele Marciello (SUI), Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Jake Dennis (GBR) had already struggled in qualifying. In the race, the trio in the #98 was unlucky with a Full Course Yellow period and dropped far down the field. They eventually crossed the finish line in 38th place.

The Oman Racing by Century Motorsport #42 BMW M4 GT3 EVO finished fifth in the Bronze Cup. Paradine Competition finished seventh in both categories with its two BMW M4 GT3 EVOs, the #992 in the Silver Cup and the #991 in the Bronze Cup.

Reactions after the race.

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “It was a pretty eventful three hours of racing, but our crews and teams were able to get a lot out of it. Second place and, therefore, the first Endurance podium of the season for the #32 Team WRT car is a great and well-deserved result. Congratulations to Matisse Lismont, Ignacio Montenegro and Amaury Cordeel on clinching the Silver Cup title with one round to spare. Together with Team WRT in the #30, they are having an impressive season. There are also still title chances in the Gold Cup for our works drivers Ugo de Wilde, Tim Tramnitz and Jens Klingmann and ROWE Racing. They now head into the October finale in Portimão as championship leaders – the perfect starting position!”

Vincent Vosse (Team Principal, Team WRT): “It was a positive weekend. I am very happy with second place for the #32, as well as another podium and the Endurance Silver Cup title for the #30 crew. I am proud of our young trio, who have had an incredible season so far. This title is thoroughly deserved.”

Hans-Peter Naundorf (Team Principal, ROWE Racing): “We had imagined the weekend very differently. Somewhere along the way, we took a wrong turn with the set-up. We were unable to make up for that in the race either. Then we were also unlucky when we made our pit stop under green and lost a lot of time as a result. After that, it was just a gamble. If we want to take something positive away from the weekend, it is the fact that we have taken the overall lead in the Gold Cup.”

Charles Weerts (#32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, 2nd overall): “I’m super happy that, in what has been such a difficult season so far, we have finally made it onto the podium in the Endurance Cup. My team-mates and the team did a great job and delivered a perfect race.”

Kelvin van der Linde (#32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, 2nd overall): “I’m very happy that we managed to secure the team’s first Endurance Cup podium of the season. It is more than deserved. We managed to set up the car so that it worked well over the full distance at the Nürburgring. That hasn’t always been the case in the past in the GT World Challenge. I’m also pleased with the important points in the overall standings.”

Jordan Pepper (#32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, 2nd overall): “That was a long time coming. It has been such a difficult year for us in the Endurance Cup so far. The weekend started difficult, but on Sunday we executed the perfect race. We didn’t have the pace for the win, but P2 is a great result. I’m very proud of the team. Hopefully we have turned a corner now and can take this momentum into the rest of the season, when my #32 team-mates Kelvin and Charles fight for the Sprint Cup title.”

Max Hesse (#46 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, 9th overall): “I’m pretty satisfied with the result. The race was a bit of a rollercoaster for us. I think we could have achieved more than ninth place, but at least we scored some points. Congratulations to the team, which did a great job, and to the #32 crew on the podium!”

Augusto Farfus (#98 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, ROWE Racing, 38th overall): “We lacked the pace throughout the entire weekend. Nevertheless, the team gave everything in the race and opted for a risky strategy. It looked good at times, but, without another yellow period, we had to make another pit stop shortly before the end and dropped far down the field. We won here last year, but this time we leave empty-handed. Now we are focusing on the season finale.”

Matisse Lismont (#30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Team WRT, 2nd place and Silver Cup title): “A very positive weekend! We dominated almost every session and took P1 in qualifying as well. The race was a little unfortunate at the end, finishing P2, but I’m still very, very happy with the performance from everyone. I’m very proud of the whole team. That’s already one championship in the bag, and now we move on to Zandvoort to try and secure the Sprint Cup title and the overall Silver Cup title as well.”

Tim Tramnitz (#998 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, ROWE Racing, 4th place Gold Cup): “It’s a little disappointing that, for the first time this season, we didn’t make it onto the Gold Cup podium. But things still look good for us in the championship. Personally, I really enjoyed racing in Germany again in front of the home fans.”

Neue Klasse accelerates growth in fully-electric vehicle sales: Milestone of two million achieved

Munich. The Neue Klasse is providing strong momentum for fully-electric vehicle sales: Two million BEVs have been handed over to customers since sales of the very first BMW i3 launched in late 2013. Including plug-in hybrids, a total of around 3.5 million electrified vehicles have been delivered to customers worldwide since 2013. In the first half of 2026, more than one in every four vehicles sold was electrified.

“Selling two million BEVs underlines how BMW and MINI models are winning over customers worldwide. In Europe, the positive development has continued since the market launch of the BMW iX3*, and we will soon be reaching the milestone of 100,000 new orders. This shows the tremendous importance of the Neue Klasse for the ongoing ramp-up of electromobility at the BMW Group,” says Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

In the second quarter of 2026, European sales of BEV vehicles climbed steeply as availability of the BMW iX3 increased, with the company recording 38% growth to 81,445 units. In the first half of 2026, fully-electric vehicles accounted for around 28% of total sales on the company's home continent. Since the world premiere of the BMW iX3, one in three fully-electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe has been a BMW iX3. Within the X3 family, one out of every two vehicles ordered is already a fully-electric iX3.

The two-millionth fully-electric vehicle, a BMW i5 M60 xDrive*, was produced at Plant Dingolfing and delivered to a customer in Spain. BMW Group Plant Munich began series production of the new BMW i3 in August. High demand is leading to a steep ramp-up curve at the plant. “The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, is already seeing strong demand since orders opened ahead of its market launch,“ Goller continued.

With the launch of the Neue Klasse: BMW expands its standard active safety features.

Munich. The launch of the Neue Klasse marks the first time BMW will offer an expanded portfolio of active safety assistance systems as standard across multiple model series. Among them is an exit warning function with active door opening delay, helping to prevent so-called dooring accidents. The BMW iX3 was the first Neue Klasse production model to feature these technologies, with further models including the BMW i3, BMW X5 and BMW 7 Series to follow.

"The broad rollout of our new active safety functions as standard is based on our 'Smart, Symbiotic, Safe' philosophy. We bring drivers and assistance systems together into a cooperative system that works in harmony. At BMW, active safety functions operate as quiet, intelligent companions in the background, discreet yet highly effective when it matters most in critical situations,” says Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi, Senior Vice President Driving Experience Development at the BMW Group.

Active safety assistance systems support drivers in critical driving, parking and exit scenarios. Analysis of customer-consented data from BMW’s intelligently connected vehicle fleet demonstrates that these functions contribute to greater road safety. In the last month alone, the fleet analysed* in Europe covered 1.6 billion kilometres. Customers were alerted to potential collisions around 8 million times through visual and acoustic warnings. In 243,977 cases, active steering and braking interventions by assistance systems helped prevent a potential collision.

BMW Symbiotic Drive takes driver assistance in BMW’s new vehicle generation to a new level by creating an intuitive partnership between driver and vehicle. The system understands the driver’s intentions through steering inputs and line of sight, enabling assistance functions to intervene only when necessary. As a result, functions such as the Lane Keeping Assistant only provide warnings or steering interventions when the vehicle detects an unintended lane departure or an imminent collision. When a manoeuvre is initiated deliberately by the driver, the system does not intervene, provided there is no foreseeable risk of a collision or the vehicle leaving the roadway. Indicators of driver intent include activating the turn signal, making an active steering input or performing a shoulder check.

The new BMW iX3 received the top rating of five stars in the latest safety test conducted by the independent testing organization Euro NCAP, significantly exceeding the required scores. The BMW iX3 was one of the first vehicles to be evaluated according to the test protocols that were fundamentally revised in 2026. The NCAP result confirms BMW’s holistic approach to safety.

New Exit Warning can prevent “dooring accidents” more effectively.

Dooring accidents occur when the door of a parked vehicle unexpectedly opens into the traffic lane. This is particularly dangerous for cyclists. According to the German Insurance Association, 8% of all bicycle accidents in Berlin in 2024 were related to dooring**. The exit warning has been standard equipment on many BMW models for years and alerts drivers to potential hazards with both audible and visual signals. With the launch of the Neue Klasse, this feature is being expanded as standard to include active door opening delay. Using side radars, the system continuously monitors the traffic area around the parked vehicle and detects approaching vehicles, bicycles, or other road users. If a risk of collision is detected, the electronic door lock specifically delays the opening of the door until the danger has passed.

New and enhanced features highlight BMW's expertise in safety.

In addition to the cooperative Lane Keeping Assistant and the improved exit warning, numerous innovations and enhancements demonstrate BMW’s extensive expertise in active safety technologies. These systems are designed to provide reliable support when needed, while remaining discreet and non-intrusive in everyday driving. They include, among others:

For the first time, the emergency steering intervention automatically steer the vehicle around an obstacle while keeping it within its own lane – for example, if a person steps onto the road between two vehicles after a breakdown, or if a cyclist is overlooked in low-light conditions. This feature is currently unique among competitors.
In situations with a risk of a side-impact collision, the emergency steering intervention also helps prevent accidents – for example, when another vehicle is getting dangerously close. A brief, active steering intervention gently steers the vehicle away from the object within its own lane, given sufficient space to maneuver has been detected.
The Emergency Brake Assistant with evasive steering support helps prevent imminent head-on collisions. It can automatically apply the brakes up to full deceleration. Thanks to improved sensor technology, the feature can also assist in situations involving animals on the road and wildlife crossings.
The Road Priority Warning now assists drivers even more effectively by displaying recognized traffic signs in the BMW Panoramic Vision display directly in the driver's field of view. In addition to red traffic lights, yield signs, stop signs, and no-entry signs, this now also includes warnings at crosswalks.
The Attentiveness Assistant with emergency stop can provide support in medical emergencies. If the driver camera detects that the driver is no longer fit to drive, the system temporarily takes control of the vehicle. It brings the vehicle to a controlled stop. In doing so, it automatically activates the hazard lights and triggers an eCall. The driver can override the system at any time.

More safety features parking and maneuvering.

Enhanced and further refined safety assistance systems can also help prevent collisions during parking and manoeuvring.

Active Park Distance Control can prevent collisions using ultrasonic sensors and surround-view cameras. The feature applies the brakes at the rear – and, for the first time, on the sides as well – to bring the vehicle to a stop when it detects stationary or moving objects.
When backing out of a parking space onto busy streets – a maneuver that often offers limited visibility – the emergency braking function for cross-traffic can prevent serious accidents involving cyclists and other road users. The rear side radars scan the surrounding area. The rearview camera and the bird’s-eye-view display on the Central Display provide additional visibility.
The standard start monitoring detects potential pedal misapplications. A typical example is confusing the accelerator with the brake. If the system detects an obstacle less than one meter away at speeds of up to 2 km/h and, at the same time, an unusually rapid and forceful depression of the accelerator pedal, it intervenes. The vehicle then brakes in a controlled manner, either forward or backward, until it comes to a stop.

BMW Panoramic iDrive provides clarity for the driver.

With the new generation of sensors and the improved Assisted View display in the BMW Operating System X, the current driving situation is presented with precision and in great detail. The visualizations are shown on the Central Display, the Panoramic Vision, or optionally on the 3D Head-Up Display. They help the driver intuitively grasp traffic conditions and detected objects and provide additional clarity regarding the currently active driver assistance systems and their interventions.

New high-performance computer integrates all driver-assistance functions.

With the new BMW iX3 and subsequent models, BMW is laying the technical foundation for the next generation of intelligent, symbiotic, and safe driver-assistance systems. All new active safety, automated driving, and automated parking functions are managed by the central “Superbrain of Automated Driving.” This water-cooled high-performance computer has approximately 20 times the computing power of the previous system.

New test site in Sokolov is paying off.

The “Future Mobility Development Center” (FMDC) test facility in Sokolov, Czech Republic, which opened in 2023, has made a significant contribution to the development of new active safety systems and driver-assistance features.

Munich/St. Louis. He kept things tense in the final round, but with a strong finish, Wyndham Clark was crowned the deserved winner of the 20th BMW Championship. The 32-year-old American topped the leaderboard from the first round and went into the final round five strokes ahead of Rory McIlroy (NIR). In the final flight of the day on Sunday, a thrilling duel unfolded between the two major winners, particularly after McIlroy had closed the gap with a birdie on the 11th hole. Up to that point, Clark had not carded a single birdie, but dropped three shots. That changed on the 16th green, which the 2023 and 2026 US Open winner left with a birdie, as he did on the following two holes. With this impressive finish and a total score of 17 under par, Clark not only secured the coveted title of BMW Champion, but also claimed his first victory in a Playoff event and his sixth on the PGA TOUR.

McIlroy (-13) even fell behind Patrick Cantlay (USA, -14), the winner of the 2021 and 2022 BMW Championships. Fourth place was shared by the Americans Collin Morikawa, Gary Woodland and Chris Gotterup (all -12). Defending champion and world number one Scottie Scheffler (USA, -7) finished tied for 12th place, but retained the lead in the FedExCup ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick (ENG, -3, T28). Clark is now third in the season standings.

The anniversary tournament was enthusiastically received by golf fans in St. Louis. Visitors enjoyed alongside one of the world’s finest fields – only the top 50 pros in the FedExCup rankings are qualified to tee off – and top-class golf right down to the very last putt also the unique tournament experience for which BMW has been synonymous with golf worldwide for almost four decades. All funds raised from the sale of Pro-Am spots – as well as all proceeds from the tournament – support the Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF), a charity run by tournament organizers Western Golf Association. The ESF awards college scholarships to deserving caddies. Since 2007, when the BMW Championship made its debut, the foundation has received more than $63 million through the tournament, helping provide provide full tuition and housing scholarships to hard-working young caddies.

Nürburgring (14th-16th August): Intense programme with BMW M3 Touring 24H, BMW M2 Cup, and ADAC GT4 Germany.

From the perspective of BMW M Motorsport, the ADAC race weekend at the Nürburgring (GER) was packed with highlights. First and foremost were the victory and the third place finish for Marco Wittmann (GER) in the two DTM races. At the same time, the BMW M3 Touring 24H caused a stir with its first return to the Nürburgring since the 24-hour race. BMW M works driver Max Hesse (GER) took selected guests on thrilling taxi rides around the Grand Prix circuit. “It was a jam-packed weekend for me with my duties as a Schaeffler brand ambassador and the taxi rides in the BMW M3 Touring 24H,” said Hesse. “The laps with the guests were the absolute highlight. They got in full of anticipation because the car is just so special. After their laps, there was a mix of beaming smiles and shouts of joy. It was great fun.” At the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS at the end of August, the BMW M3 Touring 24H will once again be on display in the paddock. Until then, fans can admire it in the M Showroom at the racetrack.

Michael Schrey (GER) once again left his mark on the third round of the BMW M2 Cup. For the third time in a row, he achieved a perfect weekend in the #2 BMW M2 Racing from Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport, with two wins and two pole positions. At the Nürburgring, Moritz Groneck (GER) in the #77 car from ME Motorsport finished second in both races. His teammate Christopher Holst (SUI) took third place on Saturday, while on Sunday the final podium spot went to Niklas Hirsch (GER) from Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport.

ME Motorsport and FK Performance Motorsport had reason to celebrate in the ADAC GT4 Germany. ME Motorsport finished second in race one with Linus Hahne and Phillip Wiskirchen (both GER) in the #77 BMW M4 GT4 EVO. FK Performance Motorsport, with Luca Link (GER) and Luis Moser (AUT), finished third in the first race. In the second race, their teammates Gabriele Piana (ITA) and Benjamin Sylverstersson (FIN) crossed the line in second place. The two currently sit third in the drivers’ standings with 121 points.

On the first weekend of August, BMW M Motorsport teams and drivers celebrated numerous successes in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS). BMW M works drivers Ugo de Wilde (BEL), Jens Klingmann, and Tim Tramnitz (both GER) took second place on the overall podium in the #77 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from Schubert Motorsport. Fifth place overall – and third in the SP9 PRO class – went to BMW M works driver Dan Harper (GBR), Leyton Fourie (RSA), and Maxime Oosten (NED) in the #1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO from FK Performance Motorsport.

In addition, there were eight class victories. AV Racing by Black Falcon triumphed in the SP10 category with the BMW M4 GT4 EVO. There were also podium finishes with the BMW M4 GT4 EVO in the Silver and Pro-Am categories. In the Pro-Am class, the WSR FlexiFly team was also pleased with a third-place finish.

Nürburgring. The third-to-last DTM race weekend of the season at the Nürburgring (GER) turned into a triumph for Marco Wittmann (GER). The two-time champion celebrated his first win of the season and the 20th of his career on Sunday in the #11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO. On Saturday, he had already collected many valuable points by finishing third on the podium. In the battle for his third drivers’ title, he is back in the fight, now in fifth place with 135 points and a 25-point gap to the top. Kelvin van der Linde (RSA) endured a frustrating weekend.

With fourth and sixth place in the two qualifying sessions, Wittmann secured good starting positions for the races. He made good use of these already on Saturday, and on Sunday he did even better thanks to his driving skill and the outstanding performance of the Schubert Motorsport team. At the end of a strategically perfect race with strong pit stops, he claimed his first DTM victory since Zandvoort 2024. In the drivers’ standings, Wittmann is once again within reach of his third title, while in the team standings, Schubert Motorsport is third with 201 points and a 30-point gap to the top. Kelvin van der Linde had a weekend to forget as on Saturday he retired due to a technical issue, and on Sunday, he was innocently involved in a start accident.

A fully electric MINI debut in Pakistan.
Earlier this year, MINI celebrated its arrival in Pakistan, marking a new chapter in a market with strong long-term potential and a rapidly evolving premium mobility landscape. Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey – August 4, 2026 … BMW will have a major presence at Monterey Car Week 2026 with an extensive program of premieres, anniversary events, motorsport appearances, and design-focused experiences across the Monterey Peninsula. From the North American premieres of two visionary concept vehicles and the celebration of 40 years of the BMW M3 to the latest chapter in the collaboration with fashion and lifestyle brand Kith, BMW will showcase the breadth of its leadership in performance, luxury, and design at one of the world’s most significant automotive gatherings.

Thursday, August 13: Premiere of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse and 40 Years of the BMW M3

The program begins on Thursday at Legends of the Autobahn® with a special exhibition celebrating 40 years of the BMW M3. Defining models ranging from the E30 M3 to the new 2027

BMW M3 CS Handschalter will be on display at Pacific Grove Golf Links from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free.

That evening, the all-electric BMW M Concept Neue Klasse will make its North American premiere at the House of M, offering a preview of BMW M’s future design language and high-performance technology. Friday, August 14: Vision BMW ALPINA Premieres at The Quail

On Friday, the Vision BMW ALPINA will make its North American premiere at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering. The design study combines the brand’s signature poise, performance, and comfort with a modern design language. A coupé roofline, shark nose, and subtle decorative lines are paired with a meticulously crafted interior featuring full-grain leather, fine metal surfaces, and crystal controls.

In doing so, BMW ALPINA carries its tradition into the future while setting new standards in design, technology, and craftsmanship. The Quail will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the press conference at the BMW ALPINA stand will begin at 11:25 a.m.

Saturday, August 15: BMW M3 Racing Heritage and “Kith for BMW” 2026

BMW will continue the celebrations marking 40 years of the BMW M3 at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Four generations of one of the most successful GT racing cars of all time—from the 1992 E30 M3 DTM to the 2011 E92 M3 GT—will be displayed and driven on the track. Drivers will include Mike Skeen, Bill Auberlen, and Frank van Meel.

On Saturday evening, BMW will also turn the spotlight on its collaboration with Kith. From end-of-life vehicles to new cars: Car2Car research project demonstrates feasibility of high-quality material loops on an industrial scale

Munich. Through the Car2Car research project, the BMW Group and its consortium partners have demonstrated that high-quality material loops are technically feasible in the automotive industry. Under expanded processing and sorting conditions, it was possible to increase the “Car2Car rate” from six to 51 percent. The “Car2Car rate”, as defined by the project, is the percentage of materials from an end-of-life vehicle that can, in principle, be recovered at high enough quality for reuse in new industrial applications. Particularly high recovery potentials were achieved for steel, aluminium and copper, whereas significant technological challenges remain for plastics and glass. At the same time, the project demonstrates which conditions, investments and regulatory frameworks will be necessary to further scale high-quality material loops in the future. The results are based on a research and demonstration approach under optimal processing and sorting conditions.

Sorting and processing unlock high-quality material loops

Various recovery scenarios were explored as part of the research project. The findings show that additional processing and sorting steps can significantly increase the potential of high-quality material loops. The steps include improved pre-sorting, modified shredding processes, classification, sensor-based sorting of material streams and more precise separation of aluminium alloys. Using methods currently standard in the market, the project achieved a “Car2Car rate” of six percent across all five focus material groups during a vehicle recycling trial with minimal compulsory dismantling. With the help of advanced process engineering and optimised processing routes, the rate climbed to 51 percent. Under these conditions, the “Car2Car rate” increased from one to 81 percent for steel, from 23 to 52 percent for aluminium and from 48 to 68 percent for copper.

The findings confirm the considerable potential for high-quality material loops, especially for metals. At the same time, the results clearly demonstrate that this potential cannot be applied equally across all material groups. Specifically, further development is required for plastics and glass. To achieve large-scale industrial implementation, additional investments will be needed in disassembly, sorting and recycling infrastructure, as well as corresponding regulatory frameworks.

Steel shows potential of high-quality material loops

The project’s key findings are illustrated by the example of steel. Up until now, copper-bearing impurities from cables, connectors and other components have hindered the recycling of end-of-life vehicle scrap into high-quality automotive steels. The Car2Car project has now demonstrated that an additional processing step can substantially improve scrap quality. Copper contamination was reduced in a targeted manner by sorting the steel scrap. This ensures high-quality steel scrap as the starting material for new flat steel that meets the requirements of modern automotive applications. A patent application has been filed for this process.

The so-called steel coils produced using this method were integrated into industrial production following successful material and quality testing. In a field test conducted at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, more than 100,000 series parts were produced for use in vehicles. The project thus demonstrates, along a real industrial value chain, that new vehicle components can be manufactured from end-of-life vehicles. However, for large-scale industrial implementation, scalable process chains, additional infrastructure and viable business models are still needed.

Huge potential for metals, further development needed for plastics and glass

At the same time, the project highlighted that progress towards a circular economy varies, depending on the material and the technology available. While recycling processes are already in place for metals such as steel, aluminium and copper, there is still a lack of solutions for plastics and glass that meet the automotive industry's high quality standards.

The wide variety of materials, complex composite material structures and stringent quality requirements make it difficult to produce high-quality recyclates for high-end automotive applications. For plastics, in particular, it has become evident that precisely tailored process chains comprising various sorting and processing technologies will be needed in the future to consistently achieve the material quality necessary for automotive material loops.

Insights for next-generation circular vehicle concepts

The findings from Car2Car will feed into further development of the BMW Group's circular economy, confirming its established Design for Circularity approaches. They will also help design vehicles even more systematically for high-quality material loops. Cooperation with end-of-life vehicle recycling partners, such as PreZero, can also benefit from the experience gained through this project.

Beyond the BMW Group and the participating project partners, the Car2Car findings also provide an important data basis for further development of the entire automotive recycling landscape. In the context of future regulatory requirements, such as the European ELV Regulation, Car2Car illustrates which technological, economic and structural conditions must be created to enable higher material recovery rates and closed material loops. This includes innovation and investment in disassembly, sorting and recycling technologies, increased digitalisation and framework conditions that promote transparency, quality and the return of materials to European material loops.

Car2Car does not focus on what is already standard today but highlights the potential that high-quality material loops could offer in the future. Whether this potential will be realised depends not only on technical feasibility, but also on factors such as access to end-of-life vehicles, favourable market conditions, investment and viable business models throughout the entire recycling value chain.

Broad consortium spanning the entire value chain

The Car2Car research project brings together partners from the automotive industry, materials manufacturing, the recycling industry and academia. The aim was to investigate the recovery of materials from end-of-life vehicles for use in new automotive applications along the entire value chain. A further objective was to identify suitable process routes for high-quality material loops.

Munich. Series production of the new BMW i3 gets underway today at BMW Group Plant Munich. The BMW i3 has been available for order since mid-June, with high demand leading to a steep ramp-up curve at the plant. “The models of the Neue Klasse are proving to be very popular. The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, is already seeing strong demand since orders opened ahead of its launch,“ said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

Following four years of intensive transformation – including the construction of a new body shop and a new assembly hall with logistics areas – the BMW i3 sounds the starting signal for the next chapter in the success story of BMW Group Plant Munich. “The start of production of the BMW i3 heralds a new era for our main plant. With the fully-electric BMW i3, we are bringing together what belongs together: The 3 Series embodies BMW more than almost any other model – and Plant Munich represents our brand more than almost any other production site,” said Raymond Wittmann, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production. “The unique combination of headquarters, development and production at our main plant in Munich is a key driving force for our global production network: Every one of our plants benefits from the experience and knowledge gained from the launch of the Neue Klasse in Munich.”

Further efficiency gains in Munich: manufacturing costs down by 10%
“With the start of production of the BMW i3, we are lowering manufacturing costs at Plant Munich by another 10%,” said Peter Weber, head of BMW Group Plant Munich. The foundations for this have been laid through forward planning and close cooperation with development departments and suppliers, as well as through modern production technology within the new structures. In addition to optimised production processes and targeted automation and digitalisation, the Neue Klasse’s new vehicle architecture will also deliver further efficiencies.

Plant Munich positioned for the future
Starting in 2027, Plant Munich will exclusively produce fully-electric vehicles. Further Neue Klasse models will soon follow, securing the plant’s future viability for the coming decades. For Weber, it is clear that this journey will not be shaped by new systems and technologies alone: “The future viability of our plant will be ensured, above all, by the people who drive change and innovation with enthusiasm. Together, we challenge ourselves every day, harnessing digitalisation and automation, and gradually making Plant Munich even more efficient – without compromising our high quality standards.”

Highly efficient production at historic location
Munich has been closely tied to the BMW 3 Series since 1975. More than nine million BMW 3 Series have since rolled off the main plant's production line. The site has been fundamentally remodelled for the Neue Klasse, during ongoing production of up to 1,000 vehicles per day. Across an area covering about a third of the plant site, a new body shop and a cutting-edge vehicle assembly, including logistics areas, have been built. The most recent addition was the delivery hall, which is currently still in the commissioning phase. This is where vehicles undergo final customer inspections before being handed over to the sales department. The result of this transformation is a plant that is now even more efficient, flexible and digital, and therefore optimally equipped for the requirements of electromobility and the Neue Klasse.

Global network, regional value creation: high-voltage batteries and e-drives

All core components for the highly integrated e-drive – from the rotor and stator to the power converter and transmission – will be produced on site. The MINI John Cooper Works 3-Door shows how Genuine MINI JCW Accessories combine performance, design and individualization in one coherent look. The car’s performance figures match its motorsport-inspired character: 170 kW/231 hp, maximum torque of 380 Nm and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. Several exterior components create a striking, race-inspired look. These include the JCW roof spoiler attachment, the rear diffuser and the JCW winglets, which add visually striking aerodynamic accents while emphasizing the racing-inspired appearance. Carbon details such as the JCW tailpipe and the JCW fuel filler cap add a high-quality finish and highlight the car’s sporty character. The wheel accessories also reflect MINI’s motorsport DNA: JCW hub caps and JCW valve caps give the 18-inch John Cooper Works Lap Spoke 2-tone rims a detail-focused finish. Inside the car, door pins finished in the Red Line design continue this sporty style, matching the exterior design. The result is a MINI John Cooper Works that brings together Genuine Accessories and expressive design details while retaining the driving fun that MINI is known for.

With this release, MINI is sharing new images of the MINI John Cooper Works 3-Door in Indigo Sunset Blue, fitted with Genuine MINI JCW Accessories. The images show selected MINI accessory components for the exterior, interior and wheels, highlighting how the model’s sporty character can be further personalized.

Turkish contemporary art in international spotlight at Venice Biennale with Borusan Otomotiv. Borusan Otomotiv, BMW’s official importer in Türkiye, is a partner of the Türkiye Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia through November 22, 2026.

Istanbul. Borusan Otomotiv, BMW's official importer in Türkiye and the brand's largest importer worldwide, is bringing Turkish contemporary art to the global stage as a key partner of the Türkiye Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The pavilion, commissioned by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), showcases "A Kiss on the Eyes" by acclaimed artist Nilbar Güreş, curated by Başak Doğa Temür until November 2026 at the Sale d'Armi, Arsenale.

Every year on the occasion of La Biennale di Venezia, together with the Neue Nationalgalerie, the BMW Group hosts a joint event celebrating their long-term partnership of the Preis der Nationalgalerie, which will be awarded to Maurizio Cattelan in 2026. Already in 2011, BMW teamed up with artist Hajnal Németh for her “CRASH – Passive Interview” installation for the Hungarian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Curated by Başak Doğa Temür, "A Kiss on the Eyes" showcases Güreş's celebrated practice spanning sculpture, installation, painting, and mixed-media works. The exhibition explores themes of intimacy, resilience, and cultural identity through textiles, everyday objects, and organic forms that carry personal and collective histories. The pavilion is realised under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with co-sponsorship from Trendyol Art and additional support from Turkish Airlines and the SAHA Association.

Borusan Otomotiv’s first-time support of the Türkiye Pavilion reflects the commitment of supporting projects that create lasting value and contribute to important conversations. It coincides with the artistic leadership of the late Koyo Kouoh at the Venice Biennale. A long-term collaborator and friend of BMW Group Culture, Koyo Kouoh also played a key role in initiating BMW’s engagement with the Education Centre at Zeitz MOCAA.

MINI makes 2026 Rebelle Rally Debut with New Rugged Model Variant.

Munich. MINI announced to make the brand's first-ever appearance in the 2026 Rebelle Rally, marking a new chapter in the brand´s storied motorsport history. Competing in the longest competitive off-road navigation rally in the United States, MINI will take part in the event with a new model variant that introduces an exciting adventure-oriented expression of the MINI brand during one of the world's premier off-road competitions for women.

Held annually across the deserts of Nevada and California, and for the first time in Utah, the Rebelle Rally is the nation's premier all-women off-road navigation competition, challenging competitors to rely solely on maps, compass, road book, and teamwork as they traverse 1,500 miles of rugged terrain. For MINI, the rally provides the ideal proving ground to demonstrate the capability, durability, and adventurous spirit of its newest model variant.

The new model variant will present a more rugged and adventure-oriented interpretation of the MINI lineup, designed for those eager to venture beyond the pavement and confidently follow wherever the journey may lead. More details will be revealed this fall in conjunction with the vehicle’s global reveal.

An Accomplished All-Women Team
Campaigning MINI's newest model variant in the rally will be an accomplished two-woman team whose combined experience in motorsports, navigation, and storytelling reflects the adventurous spirit of both the vehicle and the rally.

Erika Ferrer: A member of the BMW Group team in Mexico, Erika will serve as navigator. Ferrer brings both professional communications expertise and an impressive competitive rally résumé. After beginning her motorsports career managing championship rally teams, she transitioned into the co-driver's seat, earning three consecutive regional rally co-driver championships while competing throughout Mexico. Ferrer has also co-driven renowned rally champion Benito Guerra during La Carrera Panamericana. Representing MINI at the Rebelle Rally combines her passion for motorsport with her role in communicating the brand's latest innovations, making her uniquely positioned to share the story of MINI's inaugural Rebelle Rally campaign.

Felicia Killman : Driving the MINI entry will be Felicia Killman of Lacey, Washington. A a dedicated rally competitor, Killman has built a reputation for embracing challenges both on and off the course. An active competitor in the American Rally Association, she has experience as a navigator and campaigns a specially prepared MINI in stage rally competition. A passionate advocate for the MINI community, Killman views motorsport as an opportunity to inspire others to pursue ambitious goals through preparation, perseverance, and teamwork.

MINI Carries on its Rally Heritage
MINI's participation in the Rebelle Rally builds upon one of motorsport's most celebrated rally legacies. The original Mini Cooper S earned legendary status by claiming overall victories at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965, and 1967, using its compact dimensions, agile handling, and innovative engineering to outperform significantly more powerful competitors. More recently, MINI achieved international success in the Dakar Rally, reinforcing the brand's reputation for capability in the world's toughest off-road competitions.

IMSA Road America: Strong performance by the BMW M Hybrid V8 goes unrewarded.

Road America. The BMW M Team WRT had a top result in sight at the penultimate endurance race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA Series) season in Road America (USA), but after technical issues with both BMW M Hybrid V8s, they are still waiting for their first win of the year. Cooling problems dropped Marco Wittmann (GER) and Philipp Eng (AUT) in the #25 car back to seventh place. Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) and Dries Vanthoor (BEL) led the six-hour race in the first half, but then had to retire due to brake issues. They attracted attention not only with their sporting performance, but also with the special design of their #24 BMW M Hybrid V8: BMW M Motorsport has teamed up with Spider-Man: Brand New Day to create a striking special livery for Road America.

Van der Linde secured third place on the grid in Saturday’s qualifying. After the first pit stops, he took the lead, which he held until the driver change to Vanthoor. However, around the halfway point of the race, the tide turned. First, the #24 car lost several positions during a restart, then brake issues forced the crew to retire. The #25 car fought its way to the front after a difficult qualifying session thanks to a bold strategy, but cooling problems forced the team into a lengthy repair stop, dropping the car far back. In the end, they finished seventh.

In the GTD PRO class, the #1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Paul Miller Racing suffered a similar fate. After sliding into the tyre barriers, the car driven by Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen (both USA) required lengthy repairs and finished only eleventh in its class. In the GTD category, Robby Foley, Patrick Gallagher, and Francis Selldorff (all USA) finished fifth in the #96 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Turner Motorsport.

Comments after the race:

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “Our disappointment is huge. It’s always very frustrating when you drop out or fall back due to technical issues. But it’s even more bitter when you’ve shown such strong pace all weekend and had a good chance to fight for victory. I feel sorry for everyone involved, who are working very hard but are not being rewarded with the corresponding results in the IMSA Series this year. The BMW M Hybrid V8 has proven to be very reliable this season. That’s why we need to take a close look at what caused the problems. We still have two races left – and we are determined to turn things around and secure at least one win. The whole crew deserves that.”

Vincent Vosse (Team Principal BMW M Team WRT): “This was not the result we had hoped for this weekend. The start of the race went very well. Sheldon was able to build a clear lead. Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring that home. We have good pace, but that alone is not enough. We also need to finish the races without mistakes and technical issues. We didn’t manage that. We will analyse exactly why that was and make another push for victory in Indianapolis.”

Philipp Eng (#25 BMW M Hybrid V8, BMW M Team WRT, 7th place GTP): “It feels like a race of missed opportunities. We had two fast cars, but technical problems can always happen. That’s part of racing. Our car felt very good in the race and had strong pace. I think we could have at least fought for a podium. Unfortunately, we carried our cooling problems with us for much of the race. In the end, we had no choice but to come in for repairs. That cost us two laps. It’s a real shame and I feel sorry for the team.”

Dries Vanthoor (#24 BMW M Hybrid V8, BMW M Team WRT, DNF): “We had a great weekend up until about halfway through the race. But then things started to go in the wrong direction. First, we lost some time and a few positions during the pit stop, then unfortunately I went off at the restart. Still, the team brought us back to the front with a bold strategy, and in the IMSA Series you never know if that might pay off in the end. Having to retire while leading is, of course, very sad. But on this fast track, it would have been too dangerous to continue with brake problems.”
