I must admit that I was asked to do one one these cars a few years ago and I kept saying no, because I wasn’t sure, you know, what to do or anything. But I must admit this time it came just in a way in the right time, some of my recent works are very similar. We were making photographs where the surface is altered and not quite what you think they are and we were playing with that a lot and in a sense I am doing that here: playing with a similar thing. After I have given it some thought it fitted in with lots of other things I was doing, so it makes it easier if you’re using the same ideas. What I took was a model of the car and I kept looking at it and were looking at it for a while and then I must admit I looked at the others that people had done and I thought, well, what would be good, would be to perhaps destroy the car as you could be looking inside, to take away the surface a bit. So this represents the engine as you can see, tires and lamps and seats and things. On the other hand the car has rather beautiful lines and I followed them I think. Playing with it and it’s made so you can see it from a few angles. Tires, things represent tires, things represent steering wheels and so on. Just a solution to the problem you gave me. I mean you use green, it suggests tree. I mean all trees are green anywhere. And you know it took a while to work out the balance between the whites, the blacks, the greens so the eye could balance out the form of it. You know, I played with destroying the surface, but I acknowledged the form of it, the total form. It’s a lot of fun doing it as well. Well the difference it that this is an object which is three dimensional and a canvas is a two dimensional object. So of course it is vastly different. As I say this I meant to be seen moving, so the problem is a different and I must admit when I decided to do it, I had think it out a bit, thinking quite a time, thinking what is the best way to do it. It seemed to me, it wasn’t really about to put a little painting on the surface. That was not really the way you see it, nobody is going to look like this, so it’s another way. So I think if you deal with that, it’s better. Of course, if you live in LA, you drive a lot. You have to here and actually I like driving, I mean if you live here, it is good if you do. And in a way again possibly the design is about driving it, moving it. Suggestions of landscape, that’s why I have chosen the green and things like that. You can see the engine in. It is about driving as well, it is about driving Well the passenger side is simply. I took the idea of opening the door, so it is in an angle, but as I say I altered it because I haven’t quite got those angle power. And again it is like you are sitting in it. Breaks the surface, you are looking in the surface. And it is designed, I assume, you know, these are meant to be looked at from quite a distance, also moving. When they are moving means obviously you have to put something rather bold there for it to be really seen I think and I thought about that as well what has to be bold because when you are looking at something moving fast you can follow it but I think it will look exciting. Well acutally there is only one dog, because my dogs actually would not sit in the back seat. They would always sit on the front seat.
