Monitor of the board computer: Booking of a train ticket O-Ton Tobias Schöllermann / Development Access and Authentication Systems, BMW Group Question: How does the booking of a train ticket on the NFC-Key works together with the board computer? Answer: Let’s say, we have to travel to Berlin this afternoon. Now we have a very easy way to book an electronical ticket from within the car. This as itself is nothing new. But the new thing is that we can now store this electronical ticket in our NFC-Key. We start at Munich main station and travel to Berlin main station. Now we get an overview about the prize and the duration of our business trip. Now the ticket is been generated in the backend, downloaded to the car and stored in the key. So I can directly change to the train and the conductor can check my ticket from the key.Pick-ups from the handling of the board computer Driving shots in Munich 7er test car inside Test car in front of Munich main train station Tobias Schöllermann inside the train station on the way to the train / controlling the ticket with the NFC-Key and a PDA Tobias Schöllermann inside the train (ICE 3) / conductor controlling the ticket Train is leaving the station

Monitor of the board computer: Booking of a train ticket Pic Ups from the handling of the board computer O-Ton Tobias Schöllermann / Development Access and Authentication Systems, BMW Group Question: How does the booking of a hotel room on the NFC-Key works together with the board computer? Answer: If I’m in a foreign town the system very easily provides me with a hotel room with a special BMW condition. I can book this hotel and the access is generated in the backend, the code is downloaded to the car and stored onto my key. So I can directly go to the hotel, passed by the reception and go to my hotel room.Tobias Schöllermann with the Test car in front of the Hotel Tobias Schöllermann inside the hotel lobby O-Ton Tobias Schöllermann / Development Access and Authentication Systems, BMW Group Question: Which advantages does the system with the NFC-key have against a normal check-in? Answer: Against the normal check-in I have the advantage, that I get the information about free hotel rooms directly into my car and the access token is directly stored onto the key. So I can pass by the reception without waiting time and directly open my hotel room.Tobias Schöllermann in front of and inside the hotel room / opening the room with BMW-Key Tobias Schöllerman is checking some informations about his car by using the NFC-Key and a PDA O-Ton Tobias Schöllermann / Development Access and Authentication Systems, BMW Group Question: What kind of information about my car I can get with the NFC-key and a PDA? Answer: With my NFC smart phone I have access to many car related data like the lock status of the car or the mileage or the load status of the battery. But in addition I can access the service data of my car as well. And if I lost my car somewhere in the town, I can easily find it with my car-finder on my smart phone.Checkout at the reception with payment per NFC-key

Question: What is NFC? Answer: NFC means Near Field Communication and is a wireless communication technology for short distances up to five to ten centimetres. This technology is for example used for office access with contactless cards Question: How and where is it possible to use this technology? Answer: Near Field Communication Technology can be used in a growing infrastructure worldwide with contactless terminals or you can use a contactless card for access, for contactless payments or for example for contactless ticketing. Question: How will be this technology usable for the BMW-Driver? Answer: The BMW driver today already carries his BMW-key with him. So we want to enable the BMW-key with a NFC interface to enable new features and services for the customer outside the car. With a BMW-key he can do contactless payments, he can access information about the car status with a mobile device, for example, if it is locked or unlocked, or the fuel status and also if he books for example hotel rooms or tickets for public transport in his car, he can carry the ticket for the public transport or the access key for the hotel room in his car key. Question: How secure is this technology against attacks from outside? Answer: In the BMW key this technology is very secure. On one hand we use a certified security chip; on the other hand it is a closed system. For example in mobile phones we have due-to usability, the necessity of more open communication channels and means we have more danger to have attacks from outside. Question: When the key will be available in series cars? Answer: Actually we are developing the key. The product launch in series cars will depend on the infrastructure of contactless i.e. payment terminals, ticketing terminals in the worldwide market. Question: What type of additional use is thinkable for the future? Answer: For all use cases where contactless infrastructure is used in the future, you could use your BMW key; i.e. the login at your laptop or your personal ID card of your company can be implemented inside your BMW key.
