Arrival Hannes Jaenike (acter), several shots. Arrival Klaus Wowereit (Governing Major Berlin), several shots. Guests, Journalists and BMW Workers before the Ceremonial, several shots. “In just a few minutes, the two millionth BMW motorcycle will be standing here in front of us and will change owners. And it won’t be just any motorcycle from our BMW model range, but an absolutely unique version of our currently most successful model, the R 1200 GS. And let me say this much beforehand: If I could, I would love to keep this model with a special Berlin design myself. When we started here 42 years ago, we produced around 12,000 motorcycles each year; today it is almost 100,000 annually. And this development didn’t come out of thin air! Each year we invest around 25 million Euros in the plant, the buildings, the facilities, new products and technologies. We are a part of the city and wish to remain so. Therefore, all of our efforts in the past, the present and the future are devoted to competitiveness and safeguarding the future. And true to this motto, we are today in a broader sense handing back our two millionth “Berliner” to this city. Having been the industrial partner of the beBerlin Industrial Campaign since it its launch, we will hand over this special two millionth model to the management of Berlin Partner.” “A plant like this only has a right to exist if it is constantly inventive and invests in technology and advancement, and this is what is being done here at this location, and it is being documented that in spite of all the difficulties that have arisen in the past, BMW has remained loyal to the Berlin location for 70 years, and in bad times in particular the company has relied on the ‘Land’, because people could rely on them and there was no need to worry. BMW has demonstrated loyalty to the location during difficult times, making a vital contribution to stability and people’s prosperity both for the ‘Land’ and Berlin, for which I would like at this point to extend my most sincere thanks.” “We are now celebrating the two millionth BMW motorcycle built in Berlin. Today is a historical day for the BMW Group, BMW Motorrad and the BMW Berlin plant. Nowadays, the BMW Group is best known as the world’s most successful premium manufacturer of automobiles of the three brands BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce. However, the vehicle business started off with the motorcycle. Today, BMW Motorrad is the only motorcycle manufacturer in Germany and one of the most significant and strongest-selling in Europe. Almost all of our BMW motorcycles are made here in Berlin-Spandau. Around 85 percent of the motorcycles produced go – as they say here – with Berlin air in their tyres to 130 countries throughout the world. So they are also an export hit for Germany’s capital.” Delivery 2.000.000 BMW Motorrad from Chris Pfeifer , several shots. Interview Hendrik von Kuenheim, General Director BMW Motorrad: „I think we are very proud, the team is very proud...the members of the workflows. 1991 we produce the 1.000.000 Motorcycle in Berlin, 20 years later now 2.000.000 and I am very optimistic it only takes 7-8 years we have to produce the 3.000.000 motorcycle. „The 1200 GS we are proud that is the most sold motorcycle and this is the reason why it is the 2.000.000 motorcycle. The 1200 GS is not only in German the number one sold motorcycle, it is in Italy the number one sold motorcycle and in many other countries as well. On top of this the 1200 GS build and designed her in Berlin is the number one selling 500 cc motorcycle in the world – our organization produced it and not from a manufacturer in Japan or America. BMW produce the most sold motorcycle of the world.“

„BMW is much more than a normal motorcycle for me – it is a very special relationship I won the last three WM-Title on a BMW and the F800 R is definitely my favorite bike.“ „I always ask myself is such a top seller – but the answer is probably the bike is able to do everything. Asphalt and gravel you can ride everywhere. You can enjoy touring and you also enjoy going really fast and sporty on it. It doesn’t look that fast but you have to get the riding experience on it to see what is the bike is able of.“
