Eye-catching off-road attributes and assured performance on rough ground, combined with the premium and signature dynamics of a BMW: this was the blueprint with which BMW launched the all-new Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) category almost 20 years ago. The first example of the breed was the BMW X5, making it the founding father of the BMW X model family.

A model perfectly suited to the active New Zealand lifestyle, BMW Group New Zealand pleased to announce local specification and pricing information for the new BMW X5.

BMW X5 New Zealand pricing*:

            BMW X5 xDrive30d    $135,200

            BMW X5 xDrive40i     $147,900

            BMW X5 M50d           $177,900

*Recommended retail pricing, excluding on-road costs.

Key highlights:

New design language exudes robust assurance and authority.

Increased dimensions give the new BMW X5 both an imposing appearance and enviable interior space. The latest X5 retains the hallmark proportions of an SAV, but its pared-back design language – clean surfacing and precise lines accentuating the car’s robustness, poise and authority – is new.

Clear design and exclusive ambience in the interior.

Inside the new BMW X5, a new design for the instrument cluster and Control Display and the cutting-edge display and control concept optimise the driver’s ability to maintain control over the vehicle. The front and rear occupants all enjoy ample accommodation amid an exclusive ambience. Other new features designed to maximise well-being on board the BMW X5 include cooled/heated cupholders, the Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, Dynamic Interior Light, and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and glass applications for selected controls.

New chassis systems enhance off-road performance.

For the first time, optional two-axle air suspension caters to anyone seeking greater ride comfort and also allows the vehicle height to be adjusted by up to 80 millimetres at the touch of a button or using the BMW Display Key. Plus, customers can now order an Off-Road package – a separate button gives drivers the choice of four driving modes, allowing them to activate the ideal settings in preparation for driving on sand, rock, gravel or snow.

More innovations bring automated driving another step closer.

The spread of driver assistance systems available for the new BMW X5 is more extensive than ever; including Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, the Steering and lane control assistant, Lane Change Warning and Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Assistant, Lane Keeping Assistant with side collision protection and evasion aid, and Crossing traffic warning.

A further illustration of BMW’s ongoing progress towards automated driving is provided by the Reversing Assistant. This system takes over steering to manoeuvre the vehicle along a path recently negotiated forward, making reversing a particularly comfortable task in the new BMW X5.

New BMW Live Cockpit Professional display and control system.

The all-new BMW Operating System 7.0 display and control concept features clear presentation and structuring, plus customisable displays, while setting out to provide drivers with the right information at the right time. Dual 12.3-inch displays present their information fully digitally and in a consistent design.

The intuitive multimodal interaction between driver and vehicle has also been further improved and allows him or her to choose between touch control using the Control Display, the familiar iDrive Touch Controller, the controls on the steering wheel, voice control or BMW gesture control, depending on the situation at hand.

The new BMW X5 is also the brand’s first model that can be unlocked by the BMW Digital Key via a smartphone.  The Digital Key employs Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to allow the vehicle to be locked and unlocked from a smartphone, removing the need for a conventional car key.

Always up to date thanks to Remote Software Upgrade.

The Remote Software Upgrade feature keeps the vehicle up to date with the latest software. The upgrades can be loaded onto a smartphone via the BMW Connected app when connected to a domestic WiFi network or imported directly via the BMW’s built-in SIM card, which happens automatically for important vehicle upgrades.

The latest generation of powertrains.

The new BMW X5 xDrive30d is powered by a straight-six diesel engine, and featuring a single turbocharger with variable inlet geometry.  Maximum output of 195 kW is reached at 4,000 rpm, while the 620 Nm of peak torque can be summoned from 2,000 – 2,500 rpm.

The power unit fitted in the new BMW X5 xDrive40i is a 3.0-litre petrol unit employing a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection technology, generating its maximum output of 250 kW between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm.  While the peak torque of 450 Nm is waiting to be unleashed from 1,500 – 5,200 rpm.

Topping the local range is the BMW X5 M50d, powered by a six- cylinder in-line diesel engine with a quartet of turbochargers.  From its displacement of 3.0 litres, the BMW M Performance model’s engine extracts peak output of 294 kW at 4,400 rpm and generates maximum torque of 760 Nm between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm.

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures is also available at www.bmw.de/wltp.

For further details of the official fuel consumption figures and official specific CO2 emissions of new cars, please refer to the “Manual on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new cars”, available at sales outlets free of charge, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
