Richmond Hill, ON. Following a perfect season to date, with five consecutive wins leading up to round six at Mosport International Raceway, Brett “The Kid” McCormick “sealed the deal” in Saturday’s 20-lap next-to-final Parts Canada Superbike race on August 20.

Having secured the pole position on Friday’s Pirelli Superpole qualifying sessions, setting a new lap record of 1 minute 20.8 seconds along the way, McCormick, putting in his most tenacious effort yet, battling nose-to-tail with his series rival Jordan Szoke for all twenty laps, finally passing Szoke’s Kawasaki on the last turn of the the last lap for the win, securing the 2011 Canadian Superbike title for the radX/BMW Motorrad Superbike Team.

The win not only  comes with Round 7 yet to be played out on Sunday, but coincided with McCormick’s 20th birthday – a very timely birthday present.

“This win for the radX/BMW Motorrad team is the realization of our goal this year, a testament to the capability of the BMW S1000RR, the talents of Brett McCormick and Mike Ferreira, and a dedicated effort from everyone involved in our racing effort this season”, stated Norm Wells, Director of BMW Motorrad Canada.

Complementing the radX/BMW Motorrad S1000RR factory racers, the BMW brand made a formidable statement going into Saturday’s pivotal race, with a total of 8 S1000RRs in the 24 bike field, 6 RRs in the top 10 position, 4 in the top 5 positions and 3 on the front row.

Andrew Nelson of Kars, Ontario, starting from 3rd position on the grid on a privately-owned BMW S1000RR, also put in one of his best performances of the season, rounding out the BMW presence on the podium with a 3rd-place finish.

McCormick’s radX/BMW Motorrad factory teammate, Mike Ferreira, kept pressure on the podium trio with a strong 4th-place finish, while Matt McBride of Mississauga, Francis Martin and Sebastian Tremblay of Sherbrooke, Quebec, all on BMW S1000RR private entries, punctuated BMW’s dominance in this year’s CSBK, finishing, respectively, 6th, 7th and 8th,  certainly setting a CSBK record with 6 BMW S1000RRs finishing in the top 10.

For Chris Duff, Marketing and race team manager for BMW Motorrad Canada, the win represented a gratifying culmination of months of preparation, followed by meticulous execution by the race team throughout the CSBK series. “Our strategy in bringing Brett into the radX/Motorrad Superbike team” enthused Chris, “was both to help us win the CSBK championship, and to provide the best possible opportunity for Brett to advance and promote his career.  We are ecstatic with the results on both fronts”.

While McCormick’s Saturday win fulfilled his primary goal this season, Brett can be counted on for an exceptional effort in the Round 7 challenge on Sunday, with the potential to ride to a “perfect” season in the Parts Canada.
