BMW M Performance Automobiles launches in Singapore.
World’s Most Powerful Six-Cylinder Diesel Engine debuts at BMW M Power Drive Experience.

Singapore. BMW Asia today unveiled the BMW M Performance Automobiles range (BMW X6 M50d, BMW X5 M50d and BMW M135i), at the BMW M Power Drive Experience at the Changi Exhibition Centre from 22 to 25 November 2012.

Retailing at Munich Automobiles Pte Ltd (the world‟s first dedicated BMW M dealer), all models of the BMW M Performance Automobiles are based on current BMW models with extensive technical and design modifications by the vastly experienced team at BMW M GmbH.

“The arrival of the BMW M Performance Automobiles marks a new chapter for BMW. Not only are we launching an entirely new range of cars positioned in between the regular BMW vehicles and the motorsport-inspired BMW M cars, we will also be debuting diesel-powered cars in Singapore for the first time,” said Mr Neil Fiorentinos, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia.

“Powered by the M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology, the impressive engine found on both the BMW X6 M50d and BMW X5 M50d is equipped with three turbochargers and advanced common-rail injection system. With its outstanding abilities, we trust it will only be a matter of time before this new engine enjoys the highest level of recognition just as its fellow award-winning „siblings‟ have.”

The launch also marks the arrival of the BMW M135i, which comes with a 3-litre straight six-cylinder engine packed with 320hp and 450Nm of torque from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm. With the ability to complete the century sprint in just 4.9 seconds, the BMW M135i comes with M-characteristic suspension components and aerodynamically optimized body features. It will be available in both the three-door and five-door model.

“This pocket-rocket offers the highest level of performance and yet the most outstanding efficiency (7.5 litres/100km) within its competitive environment and CO2 emissions of just 175g/km. The BMW M135i further comes with typical M-style coherence between drive, suspension technology and aerodynamic balance as well as model-specific interior design for unmistakable driving pleasure in a compact model,” concluded Mr Fiorentinos.

The BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d:
An imposing presence in both the acceleration and efficiency rankings.
Outstanding powertrain and chassis technology in combination with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive allow the BMW X5 Sport Activity Vehicle and BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe to display extraordinary poise and assurance. The BMW M Performance Automobiles based on the two BMW X models take these character traits to a whole new level. Thanks to the most powerful diesel engine in the BMW engine range, allied to the optimised power transfer, handling properties and aerodynamic balance for which M cars are renowned, the BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d set new standards in their respective classes in terms of sportiness, conceptual harmony and efficiency.

With its maximum output of 381 hp and peak torque of 740Nm the engine developed for the BMW M Performance Automobiles also brings a level of performance to the two BMW X models which no other diesel-powered car in their segments can match. The BMW X5 M50d accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, the BMW X6 M50d in just 5.3 seconds, while average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 7.5 litres/100km for the Sport Activity Vehicle and 7.7 litres/100 km for the Sports Activity Coupé – only slightly above the figures for the existing diesel variants of the two models. CO2 emissions are 199g/km for the BMW X5 M50d and 204 g/km for the BMW X6 M50d.

BMW M135i:
Maximum agility combined with unparalleled precision thanks to M-specific suspension tuning.
Model-specific suspension technology allows the BMW M135i to exploit the performance of its uncommonly powerful engine, allowing the driver to experience remarkably self-assured, exhilarating driving dynamics. Thanks to the individual control of the suspension and damping systems as well as the specific elasto-kinematics of the front axle, the BMW M Performance vehicle is able to indulge the driver with a set of particularly sporty driving characteristics. In addition, its Variable Sport Steering system determines its own set of characteristics. The harmonious interaction of engine, suspension and aerodynamic balance rewards with a fascinatingly agile driving experience, under the precise control of the driver at all times.

The BMW M Performance vehicle is delivered with a fixed calliper M Sport Brake System with four-piston units 370mm on the front axle and two-piston 345mm units at the rear as standard equipment. The system is fitted with oversized brake discs and dark blue metallic callipers bearing the M logo.

The BMW M135i sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h – the top limit permitted by the vehicle's electronic speed control system. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 7.5 litres/100 km, and the CO2 emissions level is 175 g/km. The exclusive power train for the compact BMW M Performance model also features a customised cooling system, M performance control and engine sound tuning, plus a newly developed six-speed manual transmission with dry sump lubrication. A dynamic eight-speed sport automatic transmission with gearshift paddles integrated in the steering wheel as standard.

BMW M Performance Automobiles:
Building on a fine tradition.
The origins of BMW M GmbH lie in the development and production of racing cars, which wasted no time in achieving head-turning success – notably in touring car competition. The clear sporting potential that filtered down into standard road-going BMW models whetted many customers‟ appetites for extra power. Just a few years after BMW Motorsport GmbH was founded, in 1972, the first BMW 5 Series models gained the necessary engine, power transfer and chassis modifications to respond to those owners‟ wishes.

Then, in 1980, a new model was added to the BMW 5 Series range; the BMW M535i was powered by a 3.5-litre straight-six engine developing 218 hp and only previously available for the BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series. To make the most of its significant power advantage, this model also came in for precisely judged modifications to its chassis, brakes, gearbox and rear differential, as well as special tyres and rims, sports seats and a leather steering wheel. Aerodynamically optimised front and rear spoilers could also be optionally specified.

With its increased output channelled seamlessly into dynamic flair and aerodynamically optimised body components setting it apart stylistically from its 5 Series siblings, the M535i introduced drivers to a whole new level of driving pleasure yet also provided unrestricted everyday usability.
This concept enjoyed sustained success over many years, even after the high-performance BMW M5 sports car was unveiled in 1985. And now it has been revived in a fresh and contemporary new form with the arrival of the BMW M Performance Automobiles.
