Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – July 22, 2013 . . . Beginning with the July 26th Brickyard Grand Prix, Starworks Motorsport will move to BMW Power in their two Daytona Prototype racing cars to increase the brace of BMW Rileys in GRAND AMERICAN’s top field to six.

Based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Starworks Motorsport raced with BMW Power in 2008 through 2010. The team was the winner of the inaugural Brickyard Grand Prix last season, capturing the 2012 North American Endurance Championship – a three-race championship-within-a-championship awarding $100K to the top finisher at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen and the Brickyard Grand Prix.

“We have always had a good relationship with BMW of North America,” said Peter Baron, Starworks Motorsport Team Principal. “There is a dynamic change coming with the series integrating next year and we are looking for a partner and people we could work with long term. It is mid season, but we felt that the time was right to add BMW Power.”

BMW is also represented in the class by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and Team Sahlen. CGRFS drivers Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas have won three consecutive driver’s titles with BMW Power. The team recently announced that BMW Motorsport driver Joey Hand and 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan will join the team for the Brickyard Grand Prix in the No. 02 machine.

“We are excited to welcome Starworks Motorsport back to the BMW Power family,” said Gordon McDonnell, BMWNA Motorsports Manager. “Our discussions with Peter (Baron) and Alex (Popow) over the last weeks were extremely positive allowing us to make this partnership happen quickly. Starworks is having an excellent season to-date and I’m positive that we can help them continue. Dinan Motorsports played an enormous role in getting the engines built in time for Indianapolis and I want to thank Steve and his team for making this happen in such a short amount of time.”

The three-hour race, held on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, marks the beginning of the second half of the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series and the last race in the NAEC.

The weekend also includes a 2.5-hour Continental Tire Sports Car Championship race. More than a dozen BMWs are entered in the two classes in the Brickyard Sports Car Challenge including the No. 45 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 of Mark Boden and Bryan Sellers – Grand Sport class winners at the last round at Watkins Glen International on June 29th. To date, two wins and an additional runner-up finish have BMW fourth in the GS Manufacturer point standings. Eight Street Tuner class BMWs are entered among them winners of last year’s inaugural race at the Brickyard, the No. 82 BimmerWorld 328i of Daniel Rogers and Seth Thomas.

Practice and qualifying for both series takes place on Thursday, July 25. Both races will be held on Friday, July 26. The 2.5-hour CTSCC race will start at 2:00 p.m. ET and be broadcast on Saturday, August 3rd at 4:00 p.m. ET. The 3-hour Rolex race takes the green flag at 5:10 p.m. ET and will be televised on SPEED at 7:30 p.m. ET.
