For its third year, the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has been expanded: 21 racing series and an additional bonus for successful riders – Scoring period starts on Friday, 19th February.

Munich (DE), 17th February 2016. The curtain raises for the next round of the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy: 2016 marks the third season for this unique competition for privateer BMW racers worldwide. For this year BMW Motorrad Motorsport has expanded the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy. The number of racing series has been increased and a further bonus prize for successful participants has been introduced.

As part of its long-term strategy in motorsport, BMW Motorrad introduced the Race Trophy in 2014. This project forms a major pillar of the comprehensive worldwide customer sports programme of BMW Motorrad. Any BMW S 1000 RR rider competing in one of the listed championships can take part free of charge in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, and battle it out with other BMW racers from different series, nations and continents to be crowned the best BMW Motorrad privateer in the world. According to their results in their respective championships, the participants receive Race Trophy points for a joint ranking. The rider who collects the highest number of Race Trophy points over the scoring period wins the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

In its first two years, the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has grown to be a global success. In the inaugural 2014 season, 69 BMW riders registered. Last season, this number increased by over 50 per cent to a total of 104 participants from 22 different nations and six continents. The aim for the future is to continuously grow the international family of BMW Motorrad race riders.

For 2016 the number of racing series counting towards the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has been increased from 19 to 21 (see list of racing series below). New additions are the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) in Europe, the SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK) in South America and the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) in Australia. In addition, a further event has been added to the BMW Combined Road Race Challenge (BMW RRC). Apart from the North West 200, the Isle of Man TT, the Ulster Grand Prix and the Macau Grand Prix, the BMW road racers can now also score Race Trophy points at the Southern 100, which will be held on the Isle of Man in July.

Within these 21 racing series, Race Trophy points can be scored in a total of 28 different championship classes. The complex and balancing points system that was introduced last year has proven its worth and will also be used in 2016. The scoring period starts on Friday, 19th February 2016 and ends on Sunday, 4th December 2016. Once again, the participants can compete in more than one championship. The points they score in the different championships are calculated separately for each individual series. Only the points from the race series in which the participant has scored the greatest number of Race Trophy points at this point in time are included in the overall standings.

The best BMW Motorrad riders and teams will be given their prizes at the 2016 BMW Motorrad Motorsport Season Finale in December. The 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy features a total prize purse of 100,000 Euros. This prize money is divided between the top 15 participants. The winner receives a cheque for 20,000 Euros.

In addition to the prize money, BMW Motorrad Motorsport rewards its successful customers with bonus payments: the “Championship Bonus” for riders and teams, as well as the newly introduced “Race Finisher Bonus”. Like last season, every participant in the Race Trophy who wins the title in his respective championship receives 2,500 Euros in extra prize money, regardless of what position he finishes in the Race Trophy. The team with which the participant won the championship receives 7,500 Euros. This prize money is only awarded once to each team.

New for 2016 is the “Race Finisher Bonus”, which makes the Race Trophy even more attractive for those participants who do not have the chance to regularly achieve top positions. A bonus of 500 Euros and the participation at the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Season Finale is granted to those riders who fulfil the following criteria: finish all rated races in their respective championship, no last position in any rated race, ranked outside the top 15 in the final standings of the Race Trophy and having reached a minimum score of 100 Race Trophy points.

Registration is open now and possible up to Thursday, 30th June 2016. All participants signing up for the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy within this time period will receive an exclusive welcome package, including BMW Motorrad Motorsport jacket, shirt and t-shirts, HP footrest system, BMW logos and several racing stickers.
