Munich (DE), 6th July 2016. It is another impressive number: the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy continues to grow from year to year. For 2016 no less than 129 BMW racers have registered their participation – a new record. There has been also a change in the top positions: Chilean Maximilian Scheib improved to second courtesy of another win in the FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV). This was one of the many strong results the BMW S 1000 riders, supported by BMW Motorrad Motorsport, achieved last weekend. There were also wins and podiums in the French Superbike Championship (FSBK), the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) and the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV).

2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

The classification is still led by Michal Prášek (CZ / AARR STK) with 262.00 Race Trophy points. New in second place is Chilean Maximilian Scheib with 198.80 points. Scheib celebrated his second win of the season last weekend in the FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV). He is closely followed by Isle of Man winner Ian Hutchinson (GB) in third, who has collected 198.50 points in the BMW Combined Road Race Challenge (BMW RRC) so far this season (see full standings below).

The registration period for the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has closed – and this year brought new record numbers. After the successful first two years with 69 and 104 participants respectively, the Race Trophy has continued to grow in 2016. This season no less than 129 BMW racers are taking part. They come from 25 different countries on six continents and race for 82 teams in 27 different championship classes worldwide.

FIM CEV Superbike European Championship in Albacete, Spain.

The fourth round of the 2016 FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV) was held in Albacete (ES) last weekend. Maximilian Scheib (CL) once more proved to be one of the best riders in the series on his BMW S 1000 RR. In race one the Targobank EasyRace SBK Team rider celebrated his second win of the season, also setting the fastest race lap. In the second heat, however, he crashed. Scheib was able to re-join the race and crossed the line in ninth. In the championship he is currently second, seven points behind the leader. In the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy Scheib improved from 15th to second place.

Roberto Blazquez (ES / ARC Competición) finished the races in ninth and 12th respectively. Scheib’s teammate Santiago Barragán (ES) had a bad crash in the first qualifying session and suffered a fracture to his tibia and fibula. We wish Santi a speedy recovery.

French Superbike Championship in Magny-Cours, France.

The French Superbike Championship (FSBK) held its fourth round of the season in Magny-Cours (FR) last weekend. Kenny Foray (FR / Tecmas Racing Team) claimed two more podium positions. Both races were incredibly closely fought, with three riders battling at the front. At the finish line the top three were separated by only a few tenths on both occasions. In the first encounter Foray was second, only 0.1 seconds behind the winner. In race two the BMW rider set the fastest race lap and crossed the line in third. In the championship classification Foray is currently third. In the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy the Frenchman improved from 17th to seventh.

French European Bikes Championship in Magny-Cours, France.

The BMW racers in the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) celebrated another top-three lockout for the BMW S 1000 RR at Magny-Cours (FR) last weekend. The fourth round of the season was held in the centre of France. In the second of the two races Florian Brunet-Lugardon (FR / Gers Moto Vitesse Ordannaise) secured his first win of the season. He was joined on the podium by fellow BMW riders Tristan Guyot (FR) and Julien Brun (FR / JB Racing Team). Florian’s brother, Cyril Brunet-Lugardon (FR / Gers Moto Vitesse Ordannaise), completed the top five in fifth place.

Florian Brunet-Lugardon had already been on the podium in race one, finishing second on his BMW S 1000 RR. David Bouvier (FR / Fast Team Racing) was fourth. The overall championship is still led by BMW rider Benjamin Colliaux (FR), who did not participate in Magny-Cours. Florian Brunet-Lugardon improved to third.

Italian Superbike Championship in Mugello, Italy.

The second round of the 2016 Italian Superbike Championship (CIV) took place in Mugello (IT) in the mountains in Tuscany last weekend. It saw two podium results for the BMW S 1000 RR. In race one Matteo Ferrari (IT / DMR Racing) was second, while Lorenzo Lanzi (IT / TMF) claimed third place on the rostrum. In the second race Lanzi was the highest placed BMW rider in fourth, while Ferrari crossed the line in sixth. Alessandro Polita (IT / Tutapista) came home in sixth and seventh respectively.
