The stars on the left in the display show how efficiently the car is being accelerated and slowed. The seconds display below it counts the total number of seconds spent on coasting during a journey. On the upper right is the Bonus Range Display, which only counts the kilometres gained in active ECO mode. In the window on the bottom right, tips are supplied on why the driver should slow down (speed limit, tight bends, turning off a main road) and the proactive assistant (blue arrow) tells the driver when he has to take his foot off the accelerator. The white marker should always remain in the blue area, so that efficient acceleration is assured. If there is too much acceleration and the marker goes beyond the blue area, the display goes grey and shows the “take foot off accelerator” icon. When the car is coasting, a blue sailing boat icon appears to confirm this.
MINIMALISM Analyser. Interview Victor Kühn / BMW Group Energymanagement.
Scene #4 of 21: 00:48 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various camera shots of the display. The stars on the right show how efficiently the driver is driving (acceleration, braking, gear changing). If the goldfish jumps out of the bowl and kisses the star, the driver has driven very efficiently for a long period of time.
Interview Victor Kühn / BMW Group Energymanagement.
Scene #7 of 21: 00:58 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various shots of how the BMW 535i Gran Turismo moves towards a dummy. The symbol in the display starts to flash a warning. The system recognizes an imminent collision with a pedestrian, warns the driver in good time and, just before a collision that the driver cannot avoid, initiates an emergency braking action to slow down the vehicle as much as possible.
Interview Alexandra Vogt / Project Manager camera-based pedestrian protection, BMW Group.
Scene #9 of 21: 00:52 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various shots of a car in a queue (tripod, car-to-car and inboard). If the driver has a car ahead of him as a reference object , he can define his distance as maximum speed (as with the Active Speed Control). The vehicle also actively assists him now with the steering.
Interview Dr. Helmut Spannheimer / Project Manager Driver Assistance and Perception, BMW Group Research and Technology.
Scene #11 of 21: 01:29 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various shots of the simulation of the Emergency Stop Assistant (tripod, car-to-car and inboard). Laser scanners on the side check whether a car is located there. Radar and laser scanners at the front check the lane markings so that the car is kept within the correct lane. The driver suffers a heart attack. The vehicle activates the hazard flashers and, independently of the traffic, manoeuvres its way to the right, stopping on the hard shoulder.
Interview Dr. Helmut Spannheimer / Project Manager Driver Assistance and Perception, BMW Group Research and Technology.
Scene #13 of 21: 01:36 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various shots (tripod, inboard and display) of the BMW X5 moving towards a dummy simulating another vehicle. The active hazard braking initiates an automatic braking manoeuvre if required.
Interview Philipp Reinisch / Doctorand Active Hazard Braking, BMW Group Research and Technology.
Scene #15 of 21: 00:58 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various shots of the BMW X5 and the new BMW 5 series beside each other on the road (tripod, inboard and display) and simulation of the lateral collision avoidance.
Interview Thorsten Tronnier / Project Manager Lateral Collision Avoidance, BMW Group Research and Technology.
Scene #17 of 21: 00:54 min, Quicktime H264 25Mbit, 16:9, 1920x1080
Various shots of the new BMW 5 Series entering a parking space. The driver gets out, uses the ignition key to start the automatic parking manoeuvre, the mirrors fold in, the tyre straightens, and the new BMW 5 Series enters the parking space.
Interview Dr. Markus Krug / Department Manager Driver Assistance Systems, BMW Group.
