New Mobile Apparel Boutique Revs Up Motorcyclists and BMW Retailers

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, October 19, 2001... BMW Riders' Apparel is on a
roll...literally...as BMW Motorcycles unveiled an all-new Mobile Apparel
Boutique that will become a regular attraction at upcoming motorcycle shows,
rallies and special events. The 53-foot specially equipped Featherlite trailer
- was introduced to a group of motorcycle journalists in town for the opening
of "The Art of the Motorcycle" at the new Guggenheim Las Vegas. The display
truck has a dual slide out system that offers a spacious, comfortable retailing
environment for BMW's 2001/2002 line of rider apparel and accessories.

Visitors to BMW's Mobile Apparel Boutique are greeted by a sleek glass sales
counter featuring an array of motorcycle lifestyle accessories such as caps,
T-shirts, scale-models, scarves, watches and glassware. Interior walls have
milled cabinetry featuring mannequins outfitted in specific rider suits, while
interactive technical kiosks demonstrate how premium suit fabrics, such as
Gore-Tex and ComforTemp, provide maximum comfort and abrasion resistance.
Other boutique-like amenities include a full-size dressing room and two plasma
screen satellite TV's.

Although currently there are at least 30 BMW motorcycle retailers with
designated "apparel boutiques," the mobile concept offers retailers in many
venues the opportunity to sell apparel and accessories from the rolling store.

"Retailers appreciate the convenience of selling directly from the mobile
boutique and receiving credit for their sales, rather than transporting
merchandise from their own stores when a motorcycle show or event comes to
their area," commented Joan Horst, BMW Motorcycles Riders' Apparel Manager.

According to Horst, BMW's new Mobile Apparel Boutique is equipped with
Lightspeed dealer inventory management software developed by ProQuest, which
aids retailers and BMW in tracking sales, invoicing, and inventory.

The mobile boutique is home to the full line of BMW rider apparel and
accessories, including fabric, leather and rain suits for men and women;
gloves; boots; backpacks; travel bags; and lifestyle items and gifts.

"Customers can see suits in every color and size. We realize that they often
ride to shows, so they can stop by the BMW Apparel Boutique, get fitted for a
suit, and not have to worry about transporting it home," said Horst.

According to motorcycle industry sources, sales of rider apparel remains
strong. Motorcyclists spend an average of $200 each year on rider apparel, and
trends indicate that this number will continue to rise as more people take to
the open road on two wheels.

BMW has a history of setting industry standards when it comes to safety,
weather protection, comfort and durability of rider apparel. It was the first
manufacturer to offer an all-weather textile motorcycle suit; the first to
introduce Gore-Tex riding suits, gloves and boots; the first to market a
waterproof leather suit; and the first to introduce an AirFlow suit featuring
state-of-the-art ventilation panels. This year, BMW was the first to introduce
the ComforTemp fabric to motorcycling. To maintain comfort the innovative new
material senses the rider's body temperature, storing and releasing heat to the
rider, as needed.
