CARMEL, IND. – June 4, 2012… Preparation is in full swing at Crooked Stick Golf Club in anticipation of the penultimate event in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. The BMW Championship will bring the top 70 PGA TOUR players to Crooked Stick Sept. 3-9.

On Monday, PGA TOUR player Justin Rose, winner of last year’s BMW Championship, struck a ceremonial tee shot on Crooked Stick’s hole No. 1 at the tournament’s 2012 Media Day. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard, along with dignitaries from BMW of North America and representatives from the Western Golf Association, tournament host, also were on hand.

“On behalf of Indiana and Central Indiana, [The BMW Championship] is another emblematic moment in the disproportionate way in which we host great sporting events,” said Governor Daniels. “Already this year [was] the best Super Bowl ever by everybody's estimation. Routinely we just held the biggest event in sports, once again another big success, the Indianapolis 500. We are the regular home of the NCAA Final Four, and now one of the great events in golf.”

Rose spoke about the excitement of the TOUR players returning to Crooked Stick for the first time since John Daly captured the PGA Championship in 1991.

“I think there's a bit of a buzz on the PGA TOUR absolutely about returning here since 1991,” said Rose, currently ranked seventh in the World Golf Rankings. “Any time we get the opportunity to play in front of new fans, new crowds, I think that brings added excitement, a new golf course that we have to learn and prepare for, new challenges involved with that, and I think the whole TOUR is very, very excited, and the buzz word is there's going to be big crowds, and as a player there's nothing more exciting than that.”

The event is expected to attract 125,000 spectators and have an economic impact on Central Indiana exceeding $30 million.

“It's my pleasure to welcome the championship to Carmel,” said Mayor Brainard. “We're excited that you're here, and we're excited to be hosting this prestigious event. Not just the excitement of the tournament itself, but because of the economic impact that the BMW Championship is going to have on our local economy throughout the Indianapolis and central Indiana area. The choice that was made to host the tournament here means a lot to the City of Carmel.”

All proceeds from the BMW Championship will continue to benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation, which provides full college tuition and housing grants to deserving young caddies.  Since 2007, the BMW Championship has raised more than $11 million for the foundation.

“Speaking on behalf of BMW, while we always aim to create a truly premium golf experience, we take particular pride in knowing that all proceeds from the BMW Championship help send hard‑working young scholars to college," said Tim Rittenhouse, BMW of North America’s senior experiential marketing specialist – golf.

As in previous years, BMW will also provide a full four-year Evans Scholarship in the name of the first player who hits a hole-in-one on any hole during the tournament.

“The Evans Scholars Foundation is the sole charity of the BMW Championship, and [we’re] really proud of the scholarship foundation,” said Vince Pellegrino, vice president of tournaments for the WGA. “We have over 825 kids in school right now with 9,600 alumni of the program. We're really excited about this year's tournament and the proceeds that will be donated to the Evans Scholars Foundation by the BMW Championship.”

Daily practice round tickets to the BMW Championship are $20 and daily championship round tickets are $75. Weekly ticket books are available to purchase in advance for $195. Juniors 16 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticketed adult. General parking is complimentary and included in the ticket price. To order tickets in advance, call 847-724-4600 or visit www.bmwchampionshipusa.com.

Additionally, with the presentation of a valid veteran/military ID, active or retired military personnel will receive free admission to the BMW Championship on any day of the tournament.
