BMW Group congratulates! Award for "The Lives of Others" in the category "Best
Foreign Language Film".
Los Angeles/Munich. The BMW Group has been involved in the area of film for
over 70 years. It has focussed in particular on supporting young film makers.
The talented young director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck had already been
supported as a student (HFF Munich) and also in the making of his prize-winning
début film "The Lives of Others" as part of the BMW Group's involvement to
up-and-coming young professionals.
Oscar® for Germany.
Last year, "Sophie Scholl: The final Days" and "Paradise Now", both supported
by the BMW Group, were in the running for an award, and in 2005, "The Story of
the Weeping Camel" was nominated - unfortunately without success. This year saw
the dreams of Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck become reality: the young
director was able to take home an Oscar® for Germany.
The BMW Group would like to congratulate the prize-winner and his successful
team on this unique award!
"The Lives of Others" has already been awarded the "Bernhard Wicki Film Preis -
Die Brücke - Friedenspreis des Deutschen Films" (German Cinema Award for
