Munich. “72hellride.” The three biggest 24-hour races in the world – within just one month. Right in the middle of it all is BMW M Motorsport and two pairs of racing brothers navigating the tension between family and competition on the track. This one-hour documentary vividly and emotionally captures June 2024 and its legendary endurance events at the Nürburgring (GER), Le Mans (FRA), and Spa-Francorchamps (BEL). Central to the story are Sheldon and Kelvin van der Linde (both RSA), as well as Dries and Laurens Vanthoor (both BEL). The film has been available since 14th April 2025 on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube Movies, and Apple TV.
The tight scheduling of the world’s three biggest 24-hour races within a single month in June 2024 pushed manufacturers, teams, cars, and drivers to their absolute limits. Produced by ffilmworx on behalf of BMW M Motorsport, the documentary focuses on two main storylines: the behind-the-scenes perspective of BMW M Motorsport and its staff, who rode a wave of highs and lows on the path to podium finishes at all three races, and the dynamic between BMW M works drivers Sheldon van der Linde and Dries Vanthoor and their brothers – Kelvin van der Linde (then racing for Lamborghini and Lexus) and Laurens Vanthoor (Porsche) – both on and off the racetrack.
The film is being released just in time for June 2025, when all participants will face the same challenges once again – only this time, even more intense. The three 24-hour races are scheduled even closer together, and now, with both Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde competing as teammates for BMW M Motorsport, “72hellride” gains even more topical relevance.
Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport: “The documentary offers a fantastic insight into the emotional rollercoaster that these three major 24-hour races take everyone on. I remember that month very clearly – it was mentally and emotionally demanding for me and for everyone involved at BMW M Motorsport. Seeing podium finishes in all three races on paper looks great, but we all felt there was even more potential. I think the documentary does a brilliant job of capturing this emotional ride. It also gives a beautiful look into the relationships between the van der Linde and Vanthoor brothers. Now, June 2025 is just around the corner, and with its even tighter schedule, it's sure to deliver more unforgettable stories. As stressful as it’s going to be – I’m truly looking forward to it.”
