Bornem. On Wednesday, July 2, BMW Group Belux welcomed the Federal Minister of Mobility, Climate and Ecological Transition, Jean-Luc Crucke, and the Mayor of Bornem, Greet De Bruyn, to mark the beginning of construction works at its headquarters located in Bornem.

This ambitious project represents an investment of over 30 million euros, reflecting BMW Group's commitment to building a sustainable future in collaboration with all its stakeholders. With its modern, sustainable, and distinctive architecture, the renovated campus at Lodderstraat 16 will continue to be the Belgian epicenter for the Bavarian automobile manufacturer.

Since its establishment in 1973 as the first foreign subsidiary of BMW after France, BMW Belux has firmly established itself in Belgium, positioning itself at the forefront of the mobility market by 2025, leading the overall market for more than 4 years now, mainly driven by the closeness of the BMW & MINI brands to its customers and communities. Each year, the headquarters welcomes hundreds of visitors, clients, suppliers, and especially its dedicated employees and colleagues from its entire distribution network. The importer also organizes hundreds of thousands of training man days to prepare its teams for the challenges of tomorrow.

By 2027, the newly renovated site in Bornem will accommodate a total of 600 employees, bringing together all teams from BMW Group Belux, Financial Services, and Alphabet Belgium under the roof of BMW Group Belgium in Bornem.

As the leading automotive brand in Belgium for four consecutive years, BMW Group is committed to playing a role as an innovator and catalyst in the industry. The laying of the "first stone" for the renovation project of the headquarters thus represents a significant step in the group's overall strategy to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. It is also a notable local milestone in the ambition to become a climate-neutral company by 2050. In Belgium, BMW is already making a strong contribution in this regard: in just two years, CO2 emissions from BMW cars registered in Belgium have been reduced by as much as 44%, thanks to the Group's strong efforts with regards to electrification.

Alexander Wehr, CEO of BMW Group Belux:

“This is not just a construction project; it is an investment in the future of mobility, a future we are committed to building together with all stakeholders, local and international. This project not only reinforces our commitment to the Belux markets but also positions us as a leader in the industry. Together, we are shaping a future where innovation and ecological responsibility go hand in hand.”

Jean-Luc Crucke, Federal Minister of Mobility, Climate and Ecological Transition:

“The mobility of tomorrow starts today, with investments that combine sustainability and innovation. The fact that BMW Group Belux is investing over 30 million euros in a future-oriented and climate-friendly headquarters here in Bornem demonstrates that economic growth and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand. The federal government supports this type of commitment by providing a clear framework that makes investments in emission-free mobility possible and attractive.”
