BMW ConnectedDrive: World Premiere in Turin

At the 7th international Telematics Congress ITS in Turin this week, BMW
presented the new "ConnectedDrive" vehicle concept to 6000
transport and safety experts from all over the world. ConnectedDrive is
a new type of concept for the interplay of driver, vehicle and traffic
environment. Like in a puzzle ConnectedDrive places together the
results of BMW research in the areas of driver assistance, traffic
safety and management to give a single, highly practice-oriented unit.
According to the results of BMW R & D traffic safety and comfort
only be optimised further through the linking of assistance and
information systems. For the first time ConnectedDrive represents the
joint approach of the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA) in
one overall concept. VDA president Dr. Bernd Gottschalk called for
"such driver assistance systems, which make life easier for the
driver and strengthen his decision-making autonomy" at an
automobile safety technology show in the Federal Ministry for Transport,
Construction and House Building. Numerous scientists gained first-hand
experience with the ConnectedDrive concept in a specially equipped BMW
X5. ConnectedDrive was kept permanently posted on items such as the
traffic situation, the course of the road, the traffic environment by
different and in part completely new sensor and communication systems.
The details relevant for travelling were either processed into an
independent reaction by the system or into unmistakeable information
for the driver. For example the driver could delegate accelerating and
braking in stop-and-go traffic completely to the assistant. Before going
through sharp bends the system suggested that the driver slow down by
increasing upward pressure on the accelerator pedal. All new BMW car
generations will be developed according to the ConnectedDrive concept.
BMW customers will be able to convince themselves of the additional
safety and comfort provided by ConnectedDrive already after the next
model changes which will take place soon.
