With the new wind tunnels, the BMW group is even expanding in their existing technological superiority regarding development of efficient and dynamic vehicles. Highly innovative measuring technology with excellent measuring quality allow the investigation of wind-correlations, which aren't yet possible today. Aerodynamics are an important element of BMW Efficient Dynamics. With BMW Efficient Dynamics the BMW Group fulfils their self-commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. An example for this is the active flaps control which aerodynamically shield the engine compartment if no cooling is necessary. Aerodynamic resistance reduction significantly decreases CO2 emissions even outside of the town but already on secondary roads and motorways. Not only are all BMW Group vehicles like the BMW and MINI series tested in the wind tunnel, but also Rolls Royce and BMW motorcycles.

Pick-up service at the hotel Interior shots welcoming Sylvie Styling, Sylvie, various shots Arrival, Sylvie, Wind Tunnel Explanations to Sylvie, already sitting in car Close-ups, wind-wheel blades starting Photo shoot, various shots Control stand Continuation of photo shoot, various shots Well, for me it’s a whole new experience. I’m really excited, because I don’t know what’s gonna happen with all the wind and I’m really scared I will fly out of this car. But they assured me everything will be fine. I think this will be a really great shot for the photographer – and my hair will be everywhere and I think it will be great. I wanna see it… oh it was cold but it was so much fun. It was like the wind and all, and I was thinking, oh my hair is like this. No, it was really fun so I’m so curious now to the results, can I see it now? Sylvie looking at the photos Well, our issue was to show the differences and the development in aerodynamics between the eighties and nowadays. So we decided to get an eighties E30 BMW convertible and a new one, the E93. And we got Sylvie van der Vaart for the shooting, who has very beautiful hair and so you will see in the shots that in an eighties cabriolet the hair will be flying around like hell and in the new one it’s gonna be a whole different picture. So this was the whole idea to realize this shoot. The most difficult thing for us now, as a part of the technical side is that I’m basically flying away. We`re just shooting with 60 kilometres an hour, sometimes 80, and it’s already very difficult just to stay on the feet and then to do … to produce some sharp pictures, this is not so easy.

New hair-styling, Sylvie, various shots It was quite a lot of fun because we started with the eighties-style, like really big hair, lots of make-up, colourful, so it was a lot of fun, but it was quite frustrating when she got in the car and all of a sudden all that wind showed up and it got all over the place. I mean, that is quite frustrating, brushing and getting like all these tangles out of her hair but it was fun I have to say. Arrival, Sylvie, Wind Tunnel Photo shoot BMW 3series (2009), various shots Yeah, actually a lot of difference. I have to check if there’s any wind, so it was like ”Is there any wind now?” Oh yeah, funny, the technology, yeah. This car is a lot more comfortable, yeah. Question: As a mother, how important is safety in a car for you?Sylvie in English:For me it is very important that Damien (Sylvie’s son) is in a safe car. So, of course, for a kid it should be possible to shut down the airbag and, you know, it’s very important that it’s all safe and the doors close really good and there’s a child lock and that’s all. But there are standards; there should be, those things should be in a car, of course. And for me personally… I don’t drive big cars usually… for me the smaller the better, so but still they have to be safe and it’s something I really think about now that I am a mother even more, yes. Question: Does your son have a thing for cars? Sylvie in English: He loves cars! It’s either football or cars. So it’s... I cannot give him enough cars. It’s like every time he has a new favourite car and he takes it with him to the kindergarten and well it’s really funny, because he loves cars. He even has a little BMW which he can drive around the garden, well not a real one, he does it with his legs of course, but it is so funny and cute, yeah. Question: Would you maybe like to be a racing driver yourself? You know I am a girl and I am a really girly girl and I don’t think that real girly girls’d like to be a racer or something, no. Sylvie in English:When I buy a car I have to say I choose the car I love, you know. I would ask “oh please can I have this leather and can I have that and can I have that”. And, of course, a car that’s good for the environment, if that’s on top, it is like the perfect car. But it’s not the first thing I ask for. The first think I ask for “I want that beautiful car”. Question: How important is the environmental aspect for you when you buy a car?Sylvie in English:Well, I am more like an easy driver. I’m not a sportive driver. I really ... I’m not the type that’s driving on highways and driving from Germany to Holland and back and forth, no. I am really like nice weather, the top of, going to a nice terrace to drink a coffee and like that. You know, I am not like the speeding type, no. Question: Are you a sportive driver?Sylvie in English:It depends, like I really like my husband’s driving. So, I would say, he is probably a better driver than me, ok, naturally, but I don’t think that women are bad drivers though. I can park really good. Question: Who is a better driver, you or your husband?Question: How is your life in Spain?Sylvie in English:I’ve been there now for seven months and my life in Madrid is really settling down now, we have a very nice house. Our son is going to the kindergarten over there and he’s already speaking some Spanish, so life is really settling down and I think it’s really working out for us there. The soccer is great, it is a big, big club, Real Madrid, and a big honour to play there and, well, we enjoy our life there. I have friends, I have a social life and I think that’s very important that you have friends in a country that’s how I did it in Hamburg: I had a lot of friends and we also felt really great over there. So, it is really an adjustment and you know when you are living with a soccer player, that happens. You move a lot and you have to find your own place everywhere in the world. Question: Are you and Rafael now the new Beckhams?Question: Are there other soccer players’ wives in Madrid which you have contact with?Sylvie in English:Actually, a lot of Dutch soccer players are in Madrid and that’s very nice because we all have children and the childre
