Munich. Documentaries from South Africa, Asia and the Middle East constitute
the principle theme of this year's DOK.FEST Munich, which will take place from
2nd to 10th May. This year the BMW Group is once again a partner of the
festival, focussing on the work of director Paul Taylor.
Screening of "We are together" by Paul Taylor at the Arri Cinema Munich,
commencing at 8 p.m. on 9th May 2007 and followed by a panel discussion.
Paul Taylor has won many awards for "We Are together", including the "Audience
Award" and the "All rights" Award at the AMNESTY International Film Festival in
Amsterdam. The documentary portrays the story of two children at an orphanage
in South Africa. The orphanage choir becomes the most important source of
newfound courage to face life. When volunteer Paul Taylor hears the
overwhelming singing, a project is launched that the children would have never
dreamed could be possible. They produce a CD with their traditional Zulu songs
and finally travel to New York to collect donations: namely ambassadors to
themselves and 12 million other AIDS orphans in South Africa. "We Are Together"
is a story of sorrow, joy and the strength of the human spirit.
After the film there will be a panel discussion between the director, Paul
Taylor, who will be flying over from the Tribeca Film Festival 2007 in New York
especially for this event, and festival director Dr. Barth as well as Konstanze
Carreras, Head of BMW Group Social Responsibility.
BMW Group commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The BMW Group has committed itself within the framework of its social
responsibility to issues dealing with society as a whole, focussing on central
issues relating predominantly to its own activities and competences. Owing to
the production location in South Africa and the disastrous consequences of
HIV/AIDS on South African society, the fight against this pandemic has become a
central issue for the company. The commitment, which began during 2000 with a
dedicated workplace programme for the South African employees, has now spread
to the entire society. Within this framework the company will, for example,
open a prevention centre for young people in the province of Knysna this June.
