Instruments and controls C1 parked alongside a meadow by the River Isar. Rider is sitting on the grass reading a newspaper; he gets up and goes to his vehicle. Riding shots on the handling course at the BMW proving ground. The C1 arrives at a tennis court. Rider gets off, grabs his sports bag that is hung from the rear of the head restraint, and goes out of picture. The C1 passes a street café and stops there. Rider chats to a friend. Rider opens rear storage compartment, takes out the C1 waterproof jacket, puts it on, gets on the C1, fastens the seat belts, takes the vehicle off its stand and rides away -> windscreen wiper is switched on. C1 arrives at a telephone booth in the rain. Rider makes a telephone call. > Details of the C1 jacket. Rider comes from the food market with a shopping basket full of vegetables, secures the basket to the rear of her C1, gets on, takes the vehicle off its stand and rides off. Market stalls in the background. C1 (with the shopping basket from the market) arrives at a German beer garden. Rider unfastens the seat belts and goes into the beer garden. C1 parked in front of beer garden. Design/technology (front wheel with ABS toothed ring, head restraint). C1 parked in front of a garden centre. Rider comes towards her vehicle with a shopping basket full of flowers, secures the basket, gets on, fastens the seat belts, takes the vehicle off its stand and rides away -> details of using the stand, starting the engine. Riding shots with shopping basket. Residential area with detached houses and many trees. Shots from vehicle ahead, in residential area as above. Rider arrives home (detached house) and parks her C1 in front of the garage. Small sister comes out and examines the basket of flowers. Parrallel/straight rides along the middle ring road. Colour: graphite metallic with brown seat upholstery and head restraint. Rider: businessman in his mid to late 30‘s. Location: Munich, summer Exterior design. Park in the background with old trees Exterior design. Modern architecture in the background (steel and glass) Interior/instruments (with holder for cellular phone) Active loudspeaker of audio system (above the head restraint) Raising the seat, removing filler cap and adding fuel to tank C1 parked in the city centre. Passers-by collect around it and examine it. Rider comes out of underground station, goes to parked C1, puts cellular phone in cockpit holder, secures his C1 aluminium case to the luggage rail, puts on his black C1 jacket (long version), gets on, fastens the seat belts and rides off. In between (10:19:29): pan across cockpit with computer and cellular phone holder. Shots in parallel/from ahead in the rain (with windscreen wiper) at the Munich Exhibition Grounds. C1 arrives at Bavarian State Chancellory. Rider closes the lift-up roof, removes his cellular phone and aluminium case and heads towards the building. C1 parked at the Court Garden in front of the State Chancellory. Rider returns, puts ignition key into lock and opens the lift-up roof (reading light is visible). Continuation of the above scene: rider telephones from the seat of his C1, puts the cellular phone back into the holder, fastens the seat belts, moves the vehicle off its stand, turns on the ignition and rides away. Riding shots in parallel at Munich airport. Sunshine. View from the hotel foyer: C1 is ridden up to front of hotel. An employee goes throught the revolving door to the C1 and suggests parking it on a side strip right next to the main entrance. C1 is ridden up to the Airport Hotel. Rider parks it in a gap between two cars, takes his aluminium case and goes out of picture. Details of placing the C1 on its stand and unfastening the seat belts. C1 parked In Munich’s Odeon Square (Feldherrn Hall). Rider takes it off its stand and rides off. Passers-by watch interestedly. Roof pressure test adopted from same test for passenger cars. C1 exceeds the requirements to pass this test. Belt tension test "Fall from standstill" test. Various preparations for the tests at the BMW crash testing facility. Test procedure 1. With a dummy, 2. With C1 project leader at BMW AG, Motorcycle Division, Reinhard K. Schadt. In addition, high speed takes of the tests. The impact energy is filmed at the shock absorption elements (10:39:14) on the shoulder bows. Chart: ISO 13232 (Motorcycle Crash Procedure) representing the seven most important crash tests for this standard, which were applied during the development of the C1 safety system. Frontal impact: passenger car travelling at 22 mph strikes the side of a stationary C1. Offset crash: C1 travelling at 30 mph and with an overlap of 8 inches collides head on with a stationary passenger car and scrapes along its side. Frontal impact at 90 degrees,both vehicles moving: C1 travelling at 30 mph hits side of a passenger car moving at 15 mph. Frontal impact at 45 degrees, both vehicles moving: C1 travelling at 35 mph at a 45° angle (coming diagonally from rear) hits side of passenger car moving at 15 mph. Frontal impact at 135 degrees, both vehicles moving: C1 travelling at 30 mph at a 135° angle (coming diagonally from front) hits front of passenger car moving at 15 mph. Drop test: impact-absorbing element and fork are being optimised to ensure maximum energy absorption. Simulated impact on a stationary passenger car. Sled test: serves to determine settings of belt system. Simulation of impact at 35 mph against a rigid barrier. Skid test (single-vehicle accident): C1 is suspended from a pickup and accelerated up to 35 mph, then released (slides across asphalt on its side). Simulates the protection afforded by the frame upon impact.

Bending tubes for the roof frame. Robot welding of the shoulder hoops. Robot welding of the main frame (aluminium space frame). The finished main frame is lifted out of the machine fixture. Store with main and roof frames packed ready for dispatch. Tracking shot. Quality assurance: main frame in the 3-D measuring machine (frames are taken at random from the production line and measured completely for dimensional accuracy).
