The BMW Group sees itself as a trailblazer in the integration of new technologies into the motorcar. In this respect we started dealing with the new innovative Smartphone by Apple at an early stage, which made us the first car manufacturer worldwide to facilitate the full integration of this phone into almost all BMW models when it was brought to market in the USA. As soon as this phone becomes available in Europe, all MINI models will offer compatible technology. With this measure the BMW Group is demonstrating its technological competence in the ever-growing communication and entertainment sector. Like the iPod, the iPhone is connected to the audio system of a car by means of a cable adapter. The telephone integration is effected via a conventional Bluetooth interface. Our engineers have managed to create a joint platform for both functions, facilitating convenient operation using either the BMW iDrive controller or the MINI joystick.BMW or MINI customers do not need any new optional extras but can revert to the existing interfaces previously needed for the hands-free mobile phones or the digital music player, these being the mobile phone preparation kit with Bluetooth interface and the USB audio interface. The USB cable adapter is also available as an option. By the way, the iPhone can also be charged while travelling using the same connection.
