1. Sustainability is a big issue for all of the BMW Group and all brands make their contribution. For us – the BMW Motorrad – create an electric Scooter was a logical step. Electromobility is a very urban subject at the moment and this is our first step in that direction. 2. The C evolution is a Maxi Scooter with the according performance data: 35 Kilowatt or 48 hp of maximum power, 11 kW homologated output which makes it suitable for license class A 1, 72 Nm of torque from zero revs – that is very special about electromobility, it gives you a kick from the first millimeter you go. A very low center of gravity which makes for a great manoeuvering, comfortable charging solution. 3. Practicable charging time – roughly 4 hours on a normal household socket, very comprehensive equipment from ABS as standard to daytime running light, Torque Control Assist, which is a new rider-assistant-system combining features from a classical traction control, so when you accelerate you don’t slip the rear wheel with features from an ABS it prevents the rear wheel from locking when you have strong recuperation. 4. Recuperation is, you could describe it as a simulated engine brake, which is used to recover energy when you leave the throttle or when you brake, it feed it back to the battery, so you can prolong your range. This recuperation is also, you can vary the degree according to the riding modes you select, you have a standard riding mode called Road, where you have medium energy recovery and full acceleration, you have a Dynamic mode combining strong recuperation engine break with full acceleration which enables you to ride in urban traffic without using brakes, you have an Eco Pro mode, which combines high energy recovery with reduced acceleration so you can maximize your range and you have a Sail modus, in which you have no engine brake at all, which is also quite special to electric vehicles, which you don`t normally experienced in a combustion engine. You have to try that one. 5. The main data about the C evolution: 35 kW or nearly 48 hp of maximum output, 72 Nm torque from zero to whatever you want, that is special und you feel it riding, 120 km/h maximum speed, that is limited in order to maximize the range, 100 km realistic range coming out of a battery capacity of 8 kWh. 6. The C-evolution is ideal for people, who live in or around big cities or commute to work, who move around the city a lot, through narrow streets but also maybe in part on the highway, for most of those commuting or moving profiles 100 km of range are quite a good value, the everyday usability with the short charge times, with useful features like the riding modes or a reverse gear make it a very a perfect companion for day to day movement in a city. 7. Most of all the fun of riding E-mobility doesn’t have to be about only rational and sensible – it is about noiseless fun.

1. It was very important for the development of the C evolution to use as much synergy as possible with the automobile development. Therefore we are using the same battery modules that are used in the i3. We use 3 modules – this moduls are produced in Dingolfing in our plant and are used in the i3 for the storage production and we use them in Berlin plant for our C evolution storage modul. But we don’t only use i3 moduls, we also use electronics from the i3 and the i8 – you can see here battery electronics and several connectors. 2. One of the secrets of the C evolution to achieve the target values is the integration of several functions into one component. A very good example is the battery housing. The battery housing is the aluminium box that you can see here, from here to here, which has basicly four functions: first of all it holds the battery modules, it is a protection for the high voltage area, it has a function for the crash protection of the lithium ion cells and it is the main frame of the C evolution from the front and the rear. 3. The electric drive train is another example of the integration of several functions into one component. When you look at this part of the scooter here you see an electric motor. When you look at the same part from the other side, you see the real swing arm – and in fact it is both. The housing of the electric motor acts as the housing on the one hand, on the other hand it acts as the front part of the rear swing arm. Therefore saving weight and size. 4. The outstanding feature regarding recuperation of the C evolution is that you do not have to care about it. The scooter tries to recuperate as much energy as possible in any situation, if you brake, it feeds back energy into the battery. Also it feeds back battery when you release the throttle grip and you can select how much engine torque is simulated by choosing a driving mode. 5. The whole story was so brand new that really every day was a highlight in the development. Starting from first drive with an electric scooter for BMW Motorrad up to the start of production in april this year – everything was exciting, it was a fun to work for it.
