What is BMW’s strategy regarding electric mobility? „BMW not only wants to sell outstanding electric vehicles, like the BMW i3 to their customers, but also support customers in their daily use of the electric vehicle. Therefore we’ve developed 360-Electric, which is a product in service portfolio addressing all customer concerns, concerning e-Mobility and this portfolio consists of four product pillars, home charging, public charging, flexible mobility and assistance services.” How can you be sure to charge green energy? “As part of our 360-Electric portfolio, we also offer green energy contracts to our customers. These contracts are provided from our partners in the different markets and are selected according to the highest quality standards. In addition to that, customers can obtain to get a Solar-Car-Port from BMW, which enables them to produce their energy by themselves.” What do I require at home if I want to buy an electric car? “Basically every BMW electric vehicle can be re-charged at a standard household socket. A more convenient and faster method is to use a so-called Wall-Box. 360-Electric is offering two Wall-Boxes, and on top of this we also offer a Wall-Box installation service.” There are different providers. How does the payment work? “With our ChargeNow service, we’re offering access to public charging stations of different operators. The customer has the information about the charging pillar in the navigation system, he can just go there, take the ChargeNow card, gets access and in the end of the month he just gets one bill.” What are the next important steps? “In the future we want to make charging more connected and intelligent. Therefore, we are establishing a backend, which gives the customer the opportunity to choose how to optimize his charging process. Be it the cheapest charging based on a cheapest tariff, or be it solar optimized with his home solar system.”

Why is the Bavarian Government engaging with electric mobility on streets and motorways? Of course the German government and the free states are supporting new technologies and innovation for the future. So they do with electric mobility. Long distances is one topic and that’s the reason why they’re funding the A9. What is the importance of the provision of the A9 from Munich to Leipzig? The electrification of the A9 between Munich and Leipzig is a typical demonstration project. We want to show that you can go long distances with electric cars and the next step is to take the experiences for further projects. What are the next important steps? We have three next important steps. One the success of the project. Second the connectivity to a global e-roaming and third Taking the experience of the project for further projects. What happens if the charging stations are occupied? If the charging stations are occupied you have to wait, but we’re working on it. I think the idea must be more cars more charging stations.
