The all-new BMW 2 Series Coupé, which broke cover at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, will arrive in New Zealand at the end of 2021.

Performance loving BMW fans will be delighted to hear that the 2 Series Coupé will be offered exclusively in its top form, the M240i xDrive.

The model starts a new chapter in the long and rich history of sport-focused compact models that began 55 years ago with the legendary BMW 02.

The new 2 Series Coupé seamlessly brings together an athletic design, powerful engines and highly sophisticated chassis technology to deliver an engaging driving experience.

Components and technology sourced from the new BMW 4 Series combine with the model-specific development program to lay the foundations for outstanding performance attributes.

For the first time on the 2 Series, BMW’s advanced xDrive all-wheel-drive system is paired to a BMW TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine for outstanding all-weather usability.

As well as notable gains in dynamic prowess, the new BMW 2 Series Coupé also offers a premium cabin ambience and cutting-edge innovations in the areas of operation and connectivity.

Advances made over the predecessor model are also reflected in the availability of a wider range of sophisticated driver assistance systems.

A vehicle concept with its sights set on sporting prowess

The fresh and youthful aura of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is complemented by an extensively engineered platform that offers honed driving attributes.

Its vehicle concept is geared squarely to offering agile and precisely controllable handling in highly dynamic situations.

The combination of compact dimensions, lightweight design, an up to 12 per cent increase in static torsional rigidity, 50:50 weight distribution and optimised aerodynamics create the ideal blueprint for a vehicle character that majors in sporting excellence.

The agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé represent a significant step forward.

At the same time, optimised ride comfort and acoustics enhance the car’s abilities both in everyday driving and over long-distance journeys.

Distinctive proportions, athletic forms

The exterior dimensions of the new compact sports model provide the ideal starting point for outstanding driving dynamics.

A vehicle length of 4,537mm and width of 1,838mm represent 105mm and 64mm increases over the corresponding measurements of the predecessor model.

However, the new car stands 28mm lower, with a vehicle height of just 1,390mm.

Other factors in the athletic appearance of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé are its wheelbase, which is now 51mm longer at 2,741mm, as well as the wide tracks.

Track widths of 1,575mm (an increase of 63mm) at the front axle and 1,587mm (an increase of 35mm) at the rear axle are ideal for excellent cornering dynamics.

Athletically sculpted surfaces and dynamic lines that follow the brand’s new design language represent an expression of pure driving pleasure.

Eye-catching front end, headlights and BMW kidney grille with exclusive design

Three-dimensional surfaces, triangular forms and diagonal lines characterise the striking front end of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Prominently flared wheel arches and a muscular power dome at the centre of the bonnet give a clear indication of the 2 Series Coupé’s dynamic driving characteristics.

The BMW kidney grille is horizontal in design and features vertically arranged air flaps at its heart in place of the classical bars.

These open electrically when the engine has an increased requirement for cooling air.

The standard-fitment full-LED headlights are positioned in the outer reaches of the front end and have a single unit circular design that evokes the BMW 02.

Adaptive LED Headlights with BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling High Beam Assistant are offered as standard on the M240i xDrive.

Crisp lines accentuate side view, lead to powerful rear

A long bonnet, short overhangs and a set-back passenger compartment – whose rear section rests on flared wheel arches – headline the side view of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Large glazed surfaces, a roofline that swoops down dynamically and a short boot lid with a pronounced spoiler lip are other distinctive features of the new 2 Series Coupé.

The stylishly darkened rear lights – positioned at the outer extremes of the rear end – have compact contours.

Their surfaces are formed by light clusters with three-dimensional sculpting. This provides a showcase for the LED technology in low light conditions.

Sporting flair and refined premium ambience for new interior

The driver-focused cockpit design and modern control panel on the centre console accentuate the sporting aura inside the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Sport seats and a sport leather steering wheel offered as standard equipment in New Zealand also feed into the engaging nature of the driving experience.

The tapering in the rear section of the roofline, the high centre console and the smoothly blending surface treatment of the instrument panel and door panels create a cocooning, cockpit-like feel around the driver and front passenger.

The individual-seat design of the two rear seats provides optimum support for passengers while further emphasising the new coupe’s sporting purpose.

High-quality materials and precise workmanship create a premium ambience above and beyond that of the predecessor model.

A new design feature comes in the form of trapezoidal accent surfaces above the armrests in the doors, which provide a contemporary look and feel.

Alcantara/Sensatec and leather ‘Vernasca’ trims in a variety of colours are offered as standard for local models, alongside a glass/tilt sunroof nearly 20 per cent larger overall than on the outgoing model.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé offers a high level of practicality with boot capacity of 390 litres and 35mm reduction in the height of the loading edge compared with the predecessor model.

Additional versatility is provided by the standard 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrest.

Advanced chassis engineering with technology transfer from BMW 4 Series

Exceptionally sophisticated chassis components adapted specially for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé from the dynamic 4 Series are designed to strike the ideal balance between sharp handling and ride quality.

The new model’s two-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle minimises weight while providing increased rigidity.

The M240i xDrive comes as standard with Adaptive M suspension, a powerful M Sport braking system and an M Sport differential at the rear.

19-inch M light alloy wheels further sharpen the car’s looks, complementing the more aggressive exterior styling packaging perfectly.

Unparalleled driving pleasure powered by four- and six-cylinder engines

The 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line TwinPower Turbo engine of the BMW M240i xDrive delivers exemplary performance while also representing a unique offering in the segment.

Its performance characteristics, thirst for revs and smoothness reinforce its claim to unsurpassed sporting prowess.

With maximum output of 285kW, it develops 35kW more than the engine in its predecessor. Peak torque is 500Nm, helping the car accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

The M240i xDrive Coupé shifts on an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission that delivers crisp gear changes that perfectly complement the unabridged nature of its power delivery.

Significantly broader selection of driver assistance systems

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé enhances safety and comfort with a significantly expanded selection of driver assistance systems compared with the predecessor model.

BMW Head-Up Display – which projects essential driving-related information onto the windscreen comes as standard equipment, while BMW Drive Recorder is available on request.

Advanced connectivity and new digital services

Both driver and passengers will benefit from the extended possibilities enabled by the inclusion of BMW Operating System 7 on the 2 Series Coupé.

Drivers can select their control interface for the situation at hand: control display touchscreen, proven BMW iDrive controller, multifunction buttons on the steering wheel or voice control.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé also gives customers onboard access to a range of advanced digital services, including the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Digital Key and Remote Software Upgrades.

BMW Live Cockpit Professional, which will be standard in New Zealand, features a fully digital screen grouping.

This includes a high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering wheel with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches and a 10.25-inch control display.

Full smartphone integration will enable the use of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via the car’s operating system.

The Remote Software Upgrades function allows improved vehicle functions and additional digital services to be imported into the car over the air, and customers will be able to download vehicle upgrades directly from the BMW Connected Store.

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information on the WLTP and NEDC measurement procedures is also available at www.bmw.de/wltp.

For further details of the official fuel consumption figures and official specific CO2 emissions of new cars, please refer to the “Manual on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new cars”, available at sales outlets free of charge, from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen and at https://www.dat.de/co2/.
