BMW is also official car for Asia-Europe Meeting in October 2000 A
fleet of 30 BMW 7 Series serving Heads of Delegation at Ministerial
level from ASEAN countries during the forthcoming 33rd ASEAN
Ministerial Meeting was handed over on July 19th by Mr. Jesus Cordoba,
President of BMW Thailand to H. E. Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Thailand in support of this significant regional
event. Mr. Cordoba said: "It is a great pleasure for BMW Thailand
to be chosen to be a contributive part in the significant event for the
ASEAN community to which BMW, as a Thai corporate citizen, belongs.
Along with our recently-opened manufacturing plant in Rayong, which is
BMW's first plant in Asia, this is the confirmation that BMW is an
integrative part of the development of this region." This is the
third event in Asia this year where BMW has been chosen as the official
car. In May this year, BMW was also selected as the official protocol
vehicle supplier on the occasion of the Asia-Europe Meeting which will
be held in Seoul from October 20 -21, 2000. BMW Korea will supply 107
vehicles, comprising of the BMW L7, 7 series and 5 series, representing
approximately 40% of 253 official vehicles which will be used by
presidents and prime ministers from Europe and Asia. "It is a
great honour for BMW to be designated as an official supplier. It will
also be a great opportunity for Korea to show the world that the Korean
car market is now becoming more open," said Mr. Karsten Engel,
President of BMW Korea. In April this year, 30 units of the BMW 7
Series were designated as official cars for the Asia-Europe Forum which
was held in Singapore.
