Munich. Between 14 and 25 May, international stars and starlets,
directors and producers, journalists and celebrity jury members will
meet under palm trees and glorious sunshine for the 56th International
Film Festival in Cannes. A total of 20 films from 13 countries will
compete for this year's prestigious "Golden Palm". It is
against this glamorous background that the unusual film project
"Who killed the idea?" by Hermann Vaske will be shown to the
public for the first time. "Who killed the idea?" - a plea
for creativity This short film makes use of an altogether unusual blend
of two genres - the creative documentary and the classic thriller. A
private detective is hired by a beautiful female client to handle a
mysterious case - who has the idea on his conscience? The ideas and
inspirations of creative people are the theme occupying filmmaker
Hermann Vaske. "The film is ironical and serious at the same time.
It is based on my personal experiences of film, television and
advertising. The film is a credo for ideas; it supports the belief that
ideas should be realised and protected from those whose instincts are
to stop them at birth," says the director. BMW - sponsor of the
arts BMW already has a solid reputation as a sponsor of sophisticated
arts projects. The commitment of the Munich-based car manufacturer is
evident in its involvement in this particular project with Hermann
Vaske. What's more, Vaske has managed to incorporate the new BMW 5
Series saloon into the storyline! Not only do the client and private
detective search the streets of Los Angeles at night in a BMW 5 Series;
the car also carries an important clue that helps solve the case.
Glamour and glitz on the Croisette The top-flight cast of the film,
which includes top German model Nadja Auermann and US star Debi Mazar,
will arrive at the preview in the BMW 5 Series. Other stars will also
be chauffeured in this elegant automobile down the Croisette to their
film Festival engagements. "Cannes is a glamorous, cultural event
that provides us with an exclusive environment for introducing the new
saloon to the public for the first time before its launch at the
beginning of July. We cannot imagine a better occasion for the world
premiere of the new BMW 5 Series," says Dr. Timm Kehler, head of
Brand Relations for the BMW Group in Munich. The Croisette - the most
famous street in the film world, and the epicentre of glamour and glitz
for ten days and nights - is the location for the pre-screening of
"Who killed the idea?". The first showing will take place at
nightfall on 21 May in an open-air cinema on the beach at Cannes. Many
stars and celebrities from the world of film and television are invited
to the post-premiere party. Nadja Auermann will also be present to
celebrate right through till dawn. Hermann Vaske - the force behind
the scenes In recent years, Hermann Vaske has made film portraits of
David Bowie, Laurie Anderson and Yohij Yamamoto, which have been
televised throughout the world. He has gained over 100 awards,
including numerous Art Director's gold medals, Golden Clios for his
commercials, and a variety of Cannes Advertising Film Festival awards.
In 1999, Vaske was awarded the Adolf-Grimme-Preis -the German TV Oscar
- for his documentary "The A-Z Of Separating People From Their
Money" with cult star Dennis Hopper. The new BMW 5 Series saloon
Equipped with countless innovative features, including active steering
(a world first), BMW will be showing the new BMW 5 Series saloon to the
stars at Cannes. Its external appearance is exciting and modern, and
based on a highly sophisticated design concept. The world will be able
to form its own impression of the new luxury saloon when it is launched
in July 2003. The premiere of the film takes place on 18 June, 2003 at
the Cannes Advertising Film Festival. Press information and high
quality photographs of the new BMW 5 Series saloon are available from
the BMW Press Club at: www.press.bmwgroup.com. We would be pleased to
send photographs of the film upon request.
