BMW 3 Series Coupé now also with 2-Litre Diesel Engine.

Dynamic elegance on the road, the highest economy at the filling station - this apparent incompatibility will become reality from September 2003 with the 3 Series Coupé 320Cd: Its 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine with 150 hp (110 kW) ensures absolute dynamic driving pleasure and is also quite content with just 5.7 litres of diesel oil per 100 kilometres based on the new European driving cycle NEFZ.

Munich. Dynamic elegance on the road, the highest economy at the filling
station - this apparent incompatibility will become reality from
September 2003 with the 3 Series Coupé 320Cd: Its 2.0 litre
four-cylinder engine with 150 hp (110 kW) ensures absolute dynamic
driving pleasure and is also quite content with just 5.7 litres of
diesel oil per 100 kilometres based on the new European driving cycle
NEFZ. The latest generation of the 3 Series Coupé with the
world's first BMW Diesel-Coupé 330Cd caused a sensation when it
was presented in the spring. BMW 320Cd has enhanced driving pleasure
for those who love dynamic driving thanks to an engine that uses fuel
far more attractively and efficiently. This model is extremely
interesting particularly for those who drive very much. The 4-cylinder
4-stroke-in-line engine in the new BMW 320Cd convinces with a
flexibility that is very surprising for a diesel engine. The reason for
this is the latest common rail technology of the second generation,
which provides the high maximum torque of 330 Newton metres even at a
low 2000 /min-1. Thus, the new coupé proves to be extremely
dynamic particularly when starting. The 320Cd manages to reach a speed
of 100 km/h in just 8.8 seconds from a starting position, and the
typical short bursts of speed from 80 to 120 km/h in fourth gear
required for passing manoeuvres on secondary roads takes just 7.2
seconds. The maximum speed of 221 km/h shows that the new 320Cd is a
dynamic coupé through and through and is therefore a typical 3
Series model, which is absolutely second to none as regards road
performance and refinements when compared to models with Otto engines.
Six-Speed Gearbox in series. Efficient fuel consumption with excellent
road performance is also attributable to the excellent standard
six-speed manual gearbox that harmonises with this two-litre engine.
The first gear has been designed for traction power, which favours
acceleration from a standing position and from a low speed. The other
five gears - the maximum speed is reached in sixth gear - always provide
the exact appropriate gear or every specific speed or engine speed.
Therefore, the driver of the 320Cd has a high torque in every
situation, which means that he always has the best acceleration. The
coupé, however, is also "slow to change gear" without
losing very much agility in the process. The BMW six-speed gearbox with
its short, precise gearshift movements can be operated typically
smoothly and comfortably, which underlines the dynamic character of the
coupé. A five-speed automatic gearbox with adaptive gear
control (AGS) and Steptronic is also available as an optional extra for
the BMW coupé. This enables perfect sportive driving and
comfortable gear changing because the AGS allows it to adapt to the
driver's style of driving as well as to the respective driving
situation. The Steptronic function even enables the driver to change
gear by hand using the middle gearshift lever. Acceleration from 0 to
100 km/h is 9.1 seconds with automatic transmission, the top speed is
213 km/h. Fuel consumption remains modestly low at 6.9 litres/100 km.
The coupé is the most sportive model of the 3 Series. The
coupé is not just the most sportive model of the 3 Series with
regard to its driving specifications, but it is sportive to drive as
well: The suspension, which is 15 centimetres lower than the saloon,
and is adjusted more tightly as well, is an important factor for its
extremely dynamic driving impression. Thanks to the balanced axle load
distribution of 50:50 and the rear wheel drive ideal for this, as well
as the typical BMW direct steering, the 320Cd is optimally equipped to
bring the powerful performance of its engine onto the road in an
unusually sportive and harmonious way. In addition to this, driving
stability systems such as DSC ensure that the coupé always
remains controllable even in "dicey" situations. Just like
with the 3-litre diesel coupé, the Adaptive Corner Light is also
offered for the MW 320Cd as an optional extra. It is not just the
technology of the new BMW 320 Cd that is perfect in every detail, but
with its typical coupé proportions and sleek, elegant contours it
also offers the ultimate in design in the world of driving. To put it in
a nutshell: it is a 2+2 Coupé as it should be: dynamic, powerful
- and extremely economical!
