The readers of the Motor Klassik magazine have decided. Asked which cars would
have the potential of becoming collector's items and classics, two cars of the
BMW Group achieved excellent results. The BMW Z8 shone in the convertible
category and the MINI received the largest number of votes as the most
desirable car.
A total of approximately 10,000 readers took part. The focus was on the
technology and design of current production cars with regard to their timeless
values and beauty. The decisive element was the harmony of the vehicle concepts
in view of their coming status as a classic.
Readers could choose the cars of the 2003 model year from ten categories which
were divided according to body and type. The MINI, which is seen as the
future-oriented new version of the original, achieved the best results with
43.9 percent of the votes. On the one hand it offers state-of-the-art
technology , and on the other the genes and the emotional character of the
original MINI are present to a great degree. It is a full-scale four-seater and
expresses a modern, urban lifestyle which meets the customers' expectations in
the new millennium and is of timeless fascination. It represents the joy of
living, unites different classes, countries, generations and is the exact
opposite of a status symbol.
The BMW Z8 takes a clear victory in the convertible category. It leads the
group with a difference of more than ten percent to the runner-up. The BMW Z8
revives the idea of a classic and is seen as the modern interpretation of the
BMW 507 roadster dating back to the year 1955. Its breathtaking beauty, classic
proportions and innovative technology (e.g. alloy-spaceframe body) make it the
winner. This open two-seater, a dream car beyond fashion and contemporary
tastes, meets very high demands. It is an exceptional automobile for
connoisseurs, created from the passionate dedication of completely committed
engineers and designers.
The BMW Group Mobile Tradition division which possesses more than 400 classic
automobiles and over 170 motorcycles in its collection already features a
number of BMW Z8 and MINI units. Holger Lapp, head of the BMW Group Mobile
Tradition division states: "With these two cars the BMW Group is implementing
the great history of its brands and products in current models. They will bring
great joy to their owners as "classics of the future" for many years and soon
become collector's items of high value."
