Hockenheim, 7 June 2010. Chris Pfeiffer (GER) and his BMW F 800 R won the Stunt Riding German Open held this past weekend at the Hockenheimring. The Bavarian successfully defended his 2009 title.
“I am very happy to win, as there were a lot of the world’s best riders competing, a lot of new, extremely difficult tricks to perform, and the final proved very nerve-wracking, as always,” commented Pfeiffer.
Saturday saw the qualifying runs held on an area measuring 30 by 80 metres. The eight best riders out of 41 made it into Sunday’s final staged on the start/finish straight. The qualifying results also determined the starting sequence for the final. As the top qualifier on Saturday, Pfeiffer was able to start last in the first run of the final.
After Pasierbek, Desbonnet and Sagnier had raised the bar, Pfeiffer knew he had to take some risk to capture the win. He included his latest trick – the 180 brake slide roll back – even though he hadn’t yet mastered it fully. But he pulled it off, moving to a no hands circle wheelie.
“That really set me up,” declared a satisfied Pfeiffer, “and the rest of my run was just really flowing and virtually error-free. It put me into the lead after the first run of the final, which qualified me for the superfinal with the top four, alongside Rafal Pasierbek, Sebastien Desbonnet and Thomas Sagnier.”
This performance again lasted four and a half minutes, enough to pull off plenty of tricks, but also to make plenty of mistakes – something Pfeiffer was naturally determined to avoid.
“My second run wasn’t the most difficult among us four superfinalists, I’d say, but it was almost error-free, pretty stylish and very fluent. It meant I earned the highest points score again and was able to take away a clear win,” said the old and new champ.
