BMW driver Casper Elgaard claims fourth title in Denmark.

Casper Elgaard (DK) from the Telesikring Racing team won the Danish Touringcar Championship last weekend. Following Richard Göransson's (SE) triumph in the STCC, this is a second title for the BMW Customer Racing Programme in Scandinavia. Driving a BMW 320si WTCC, the 32-year-old finished second and third in the season finale at the “Jyllandsringen” to clinch victory, meaning fellow BMW driver Robert Schlünssen had to settle for second in the Drivers’ Championship.

Munich, 13th October 2010. Following wins in 2004, 2005 and 2006, this is Elgaard's fourth victory in the Danish championship, which is run to the FIA Super2000 regulations.

The freshly-crowned champion went into the final race of the year with a lead of nine points. An excellent start saw Elgaard quickly move through the field from seventh to third. Crucially, his two closest rivals in the fight for the title, Schlünssen and SEAT driver Jason Watt, were behind him. When the race was cut short after just one lap due to a crash, Elgaard was confirmed as the new DTC champion.

“That really was an unusual situation,” said Elgaard, describing the moment he knew the title was coming his way. “My thoughts were with the driver whose crash had caused the race to be red-flagged. Luckily he is fine. When people started to congratulate me, I could not really start to celebrate at first. We hadn't actually finished the race.”

A few minutes later, however, it was clear Elgaard had won his fourth title at the wheel of a BMW racing car – and the celebrations knew no bounds. “I am very proud of this title,” he said. “This has not been an easy year for my team. To top both the drivers' and teams’ championships at the end of the season just goes to show how good this team is. The BMW 320si is a fantastic car. We were not necessarily the fastest at every circuit, but were always competitive. It is certainly no coincidence all my titles have come with BMW.”

Like many other BMW drivers, Elgaard is competing in the 2010 BMW Sports Trophy, with which BMW has honoured the performances of privateers since the 1960s. This year the top drivers in the BMW Sports Trophy will be rewarded with a share of the 250,000 Euros prize purse. The awards ceremony is traditionally held in Munich in December.

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information are available at www.bmw.de/wltp and at www.dat.de/co2/.
