Goethe-Institut and MINI present: Curatorial Residencies in New York "Ludlow 38"

Munich/New York. The Goethe-Institut New York is pleased to announce the February 2011 inauguration of MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludlow 38, at 38 Ludlow Street, the downtown satellite space for contemporary art of the Goethe-Institut New York. This residency program continues the successful partnership between the Goethe-Institut New York and MINI, which began in 2008. Succeeding the three collaborating institutions Kunstverein Munich, the European Kunsthalle Cologne, and the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (2008–2010), the program marks the continuation of the experimental exhibition space Ludlow 38 for an additional three years, to December 2013. With these residencies, the concept of the space and its programming will be slightly modified. Each year a designated board will select a curatorial resident from Germany. The resident curator will have the opportunity to program the space and to gain experience in directing a small institution with a distinctive international profile.

Munich /New York . With these residencies, the concept of the space and its programming will be slightly modified. Each year a designated board will select a curatorial resident from Germany. The resident curator will have the opportunity to program the space and to gain experience in directing a small institution with a distinctive international profile.

Tobi Maier has been selected as the first curator for 2011. Prior to his engagement with Ludlow 38, he was curator at the Frankfurter Kunstverein and also collaborated on Manifesta 7 in Rovereto. Tobi Maier holds an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art in London, frequently contributes to a variety of art journals, and lectures at universities and various exhibition spaces. His curatorial project launches on February 24, in the space designed by Martin Beck and Ken Saylor and with a graphic identity conceived in collaboration with H I T (Berlin/London). The first exhibition will feature work by Franz Mon and Waldemar Cordeiro.

“We are extremely grateful for our great partnership with MINI, which allows the continuation of our successful work with Ludlow 38,” said Stephan Wackwitz, program director of the Goethe-Institut New York. “MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludlow 38 provides German curators in the early stage of their career with a unique international opportunity. For the Goethe-Institut New York, this program is of significant strategic importance.”

And Thomas Girst, head of BMW Group’s cultural communications, adds: “Together with the Goethe-Institut, BMW Group has engaged in close cultural cooperation with manifold international projects for well over a decade now. The great success of MINI's involvement with the Ludlow 38 contemporary art space has been of such scale that we are proud to announce our continuous long-term support. The newly developed curatorial residency program fits right in with our joint initiatives MINI Art nights in Brazil or the Pavillon 21 MINI Opera Space".

Location:
MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludlow 38 is located on New York’s Lower East Side at 38 Ludlow Street, New York, NY, 10002 (between Grand and Hester).

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information are available at www.bmw.de/wltp and at www.dat.de/co2/.
