The penultimate round of the Superbike World Championship: Ayrton Badovini spent the first day of qualifying for the weekend at Magny Cours working for the race. Xavi Fores is continuing learning the S1000RR BMW SBK. Sylvain Barrier fell in Superstock and Lorenzo Zanetti took fifth.

The penultimate round of the Superbike World Championship: Ayrton Badovini spent the first day of qualifying for the weekend at Magny Cours working for the race. Xavi Fores is continuing learning the S1000RR BMW SBK. Sylvain Barrier fell in Superstock and Lorenzo Zanetti took fifth.
Today was an intense day of practice for the BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team at the Circuit de Nevers - Magny Cours (France) where the penultimate round of the 2011 World Championship takes place on Sunday.
Ayrton Badovini worked on set-up for the race, without looking too closely at the stopwatch. He set the 12th fastest time in free practice and 13th in qualifying. In the latter especially, Ayrton rode on the same tyres throughout to select the best set-up for race conditions. More tyres will be available for setting quick times tomorrow.
Xavi Fores, meanwhile, is getting to grips with the S 1000 RR Superbike, qualifying seventeenth. The Spaniard continues his work learning the Superbike on his second outing with the Superbikes.
Sylvain Barrier started the day in Superstock setting the fastest time in free practice in the morning, but in the afternoon the Frenchman was the unintentional protagonist of a spectacular crash at the end of the straight before the finish line, fortunately without serious physical consequences. It was, therefore, Lorenzo Zanetti (seventh in the morning) that put in the best time in qualifying in the afternoon, setting the fifth fastest time.
Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team at the end of the first day of practice commented: "Although the position is not the best, we are quite satisfied and we are trying to work for the race. Ayrton used a single set of tyres because it was important to work on the bike with used tyres.Fores did not really go wrong because he is just one second from the leader. He went much better than at Imola, and every time he is on track his pace improves.Unfortunately, in Superstock, Barrier fell on the first lap, but without serious consequences, but as it stands he has not qualified for the race. Hopefully tomorrow will manage to go as far up the grid as possible. Lorenzo is performing true to form and is always stronger in the race."
