Munich, 13th February 2012. The programme for the BMW Z4 GT3 will have an increasingly international flavour to it in the 2012 season: this year, the new BMW Team Brazil will line up in the Brazilian GT Championship (GT Brazil) with two GT3 cars developed by BMW Motorsport.
Under the guidance of Team Principal Antonio Hermann (BR), the AH Competições squad will also send two BMW M3 GT4 cars into action in the series. BMW Team Brazil is supported by BMW Brazil.
“The BMW Z4 GT3 will be in action in many important international and national championships in 2012,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “I am delighted that we will also be well represented with this car in South America in the future. Very few countries are as enthusiastic about motor racing as Brazil. That makes it all the more pleasing that we will be battling it out for points and victories in the GT series there with not one, but two of our customer racing models. I wish BMW Team Brazil every success in its debut season.”
The GT Brazil series was founded in 2007. This year, the calendar includes eight race weekends, with teams contesting two races per event. The curtain-raiser to the season takes place on 18th March 2012 at the “Autódromo José Carlos Pace” in São Paulo (BR). The series returns to the iconic circuit on the outskirts of the metropolis for the season finale on 16th December.
The BMW Z4 GT3 will be employed by BMW customer racing teams in numerous championships held in accordance with GT3 regulations, including the FIA GT1 World Championship, the FIA GT3 European Championship and the Blancpain Endurance Series. It will also be used in national championships like the German ADAC GT Masters, the VLN Endurance Championship, the Japanese Super GT, the British, French, Italian, Swedish and Brazilian GT championships, and the 24-hour classics at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE) and Spa-Francorchamps (BE).
