The BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Superbike Team completed the second day on track at Nürburgring, that determined the starting grid for tomorrow’s races. Michel Fabriziofinished Superpole 1 in 13th place and will start from the fourth row. Fifth row and seventeenth grid position is the starting place for Ayrton Badovini, who was out of top-16 at the end of Qualifying 2. Sylvain Barrier was third at the end of Superstock 1000 qualifying number two.
The Superbike riders’ day started – as usual – with the second qualifying session. Courtesy of a good last lap of 1’56.000 before the chequered flag, Michel Fabrizio was able to climb up to twelfth place which meant he could take part in Superpole.
Ayrton Badovini, on the other hand, was outside the top sixteen Superpole riders by just 15 thousands of a second and was the first of the non-qualified riders due to a small mistake in the last sector of the lap.
The 3pm Superpole saw Michel Fabrizio finish 13th and – because of that – he couldn’t go any further in the session. His 1’56.290 lap-time set with a qualifying tyre was not enough to stay in the top-12. Michel will start tomorrow’s races from the fourth row of the grid.
Sylvain Barrier scored a third place finish in FIM Superstock 1000 Cup Qualifying 2. The young Frenchman, despite not getting pole position, showed an impressive race pace, consistently being very close to his best 1’59.394 lap time.
Serafino Foti, BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet Superbike Team Sporting Director, said: "It was not a positive day as Ayrton was out of Superpole by just thousands of a second while Michel wasn’t able to get the best out of the two Superpole tyres and he finished 13th. We now need to improve a bit on race pace. It seems that conditions tomorrow will stay the same and we’ll give our best to get the best possible result.
I’m happy about the performance in Superstock 1000 because Sylvain is very competitive pace-wise even though he didn’t get pole position. We have nothing to lose considering the points, so we’ll be on it and we’ll go for the win.”
Michel Fabrizio #84 - QP 12th (1'56.000) Superpole 13th (1'56.290 SP1) "We decided to use both Superpole tyres right from beginning but I wasn’t able to get the best out of them. In the end I was almost three tenths of a second slower than my qualifying time. A fourth row doesn’t excite me much but we need to make some small improvements that will allow us to be competitive on race distance.”
Ayrton Badovini #86 - QP 17th (1'56.246) Superpole NQ "Today was a very difficult day. I made a small mistake in qualifying that ended my chances of getting into the top-16. It’s a shame as the previous splits were good. I’m totally unhappy, but I’m working with the team to improve my level of comfort on the bike for tomorrow’s races.”
