Munich, May 14, 2013. Notable guest at the 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup: BMW DTM driver Andy Priaulx (UK) paid a visit to the simulator training in the iZone Driver Performance Centre in Silverstone (UK) last weekend, and passed on some of his extensive knowledge to this year’s talented youngsters, who BMW is sustainably preparing for a successful career in professional motor racing. The three-time World Touring Car Champion and 2004 European Touring Car Champion was on hand throughout the three-day simulator training to offer assistance regarding strategic and tactical race preparations.
“As well as the practical training the participants in the 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup receive at the on-track events at various circuits throughout Europe, the simulator training is an important component of the tutorship,” said Priaulx. “Because practice time on the track is becoming more restricted in international motorsport, simulator training is growing in importance. Junior drivers learn the necessary skills here to allow systematic race preparation. The influence this knowledge has on the level of success the drivers enjoy over the course of their careers should not be underestimated.”
In under four weeks, the current class will be given the opportunity to put what they have learned in Silverstone into practice, when the second of the season’s six on-track events takes place in Anderstorp (SE) from June 7-9. The training programme for Anderstorp also includes other modules dealing with fitness, performance and media training. In Sweden, the participants will take another step towards the highlight of the 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup season – the Grand Final, which will be held as part of the DTM weekend in Oschersleben (DE) in September. The winner of the three races in Oschersleben will be financed by BMW for the 2014 season in a higher-level racing series.
