Nico Menzel celebrates victory in second “Grand Final” race in Oschersleben // 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup to be decided on Sunday .

Oschersleben (DE), 14th September 2013. Nico Menzel (DE) has spiced up the race for 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup title. In the second “Grand Final” race at the etropolis Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben (DE), the German took the chequered flag ahead of Sweden’s Robin Hansson and compatriot Florian Stüger after sixteen laps of high-speed racing action. In the overall standings – which follows the same points system used in Formula 1 – Menzel sits in second place on 40 points going into the decisive third race of the “Grand Final”. Hansson currently leads the way on 43 points, whilst Stüger finds himself in third on 27.

As a result, the winner of the 2013 Formula BMW Talent Cup will be decided in the third race, which will be taking place tomorrow morning at 8.30 local time. The winner will receive funding from BMW for the 2014 season in a more senior single-seater racing series. At the same time, the “Grand Final”’s third race is the highlight of the season for its eleven competitors, who are representing eight different nations. BMW is using this series to prepare young, talented drivers for a professional career in motor racing.

Starting from second on the grid, Menzel put in a dazzling performance. Although initially having to give way to Jules Szymkowiak (NL), Menzel retook second place after the Dutch driver had spun from the track when trying to overtake Hansson, who was leading at the time. Following this incident, Szymkowiak was unable to continue. On the penultimate lap, Menzel’s patience was rewarded, as he found a way past Hansson.

Nico Menzel, winner of race 2: “After finishing second in race one, I knew that I had more in me. At last, everything went to plan. Victory in the second race felt great. I can go into the third race without any pressure on me. It will definitely be an exciting ‚Grand Final‘.”

Race 2 result: 1. Nico Menzel (DE), 2. Robin Hansson (SE), 3. Florian Stüger (DE), 4. Michael Waldherr (DE), 5. David Droux (CH), 6. James Allen (AU), 7. Bar Baruch (IL), 8. Michael Wolf (SA), 9. Vivianne Mainusch (DE). DNF: Jules Szymkowiak (NL). DNS: Kaan Önder (TR).

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies. Further information are available at www.bmw.de/wltp and at www.dat.de/co2/.
