Munich (DE). Halftime at round nine of the 2014 FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies, the Rally Morocco. Nasser Al-Attiyah/Mathieu Baumel (QT/FR) are currently leading the field in their MINI ALL4 Racing car. Orlando Terranova/Rolando Graue (AR/AR) of the Monster Energy X-raid team are currently in second place, 40 seconds behind Al-Attiyah.
"So far, the rally has been good but also very
challenging," Terranova said after the first three days.
"The stages were quite bumpy, but as always, I had no problems
driving the MINI ALL4 Racing. The chassis is very good, the car very
nice to drive. I'm learning a lot, it's a good preparation for the
Dakar Rally in January. We want to continue like that."
On the first two days at the Rally Morocco, which is being held
for the 25th time this year, the participants had to tackle sandy
dunes around the city of Erfoud. Leg 3 mostly featured fast and sandy
sections. A big challenge for man and machine. A lot of cars had to
retire. Only 24 of the 37 cars started crossed the finish line.
Erik van Loon/Wouter Rosegaar (NL/NL) are currently in fifth
place overall just ahead of the current championship leaders Vladimir
Vasilyev/Konstantin Zhiltsov (RU/RU). Boris Garafulic/Filipe Palmeiro
(CL/PT) are in tenth place. The final three stages will take the
drivers on fast but narrow roads across the Atlas Mountains to the
finish, the capital of Marrakesh.
