Munich (DE). MINI ALL4 Racing driver Harry Hunt (GBR) started his
journey to the Dakar Rally 2016 in spectacular style when he
introduced his Dakar-ready MINI All4 Racing to the massive crowds
attending the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Invited to take part in the iconic Hill Climb event, Hunt drove his
MINI ALL4 Racing and ‘wowed’ the crowds by demonstrating the same
level of performance that has captured MINI with its MINI ALL4 Racing
four previous Dakar Rally titles; and hopefully net a consecutive
fifth title in 2016.
2016 will be the first time Hunt competes in the Dakar Rally but has
already showcased his talent in a MINI ALL4 Racing with successful
results in the 2015 FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies. In his
first outing at the 2015 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge Hunt earned a
creditable third place.
Like all of the MINI ALL4 Racing crews to compete in the Dakar Rally
2016, London-based Hunt, 26, will have to pilot his MINI ALL4 Racing
across 10,000 kilometres of challenging South American land mass
taking in desert regions, mountains, sand dunes and salt flats in what
is the ultimate orienteering and endurance test.
When Hunt and his MINI ALL4 Racing were not competing in the exciting
Hill Climb they could be found at the substantial MINI exhibition,
where the MINI ALL4 Racing proved to be a huge crowd-puller and the
popular Hunt signed hundreds of autographs.
Talking about his ‘home crowd’ experience at Goodwood, Hunt said: “It
is an incredible honour to be working with MINI and to have been
centre stage on the stand at Goodwood Festival of Speed. To also be
given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the great and the
good of motorsport by driving my Dakar MINI ALL4 Racing up the iconic
Hill Climb was a dream come true.
“I know the challenge will be tough but I really hope I can live up
to the expectation and pay back the faith MINI has shown in me with a
good result at Dakar 2016.”
