Christian Büllesbach wins the BMW Sports Trophy Driver Competition – Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport is the top team in 2015.

Munich (DE), 5th December 2015. The BMW Museum in Munich (DE) was the venue for Friday’s BMW Motorsport Season Review, during which the top privateer BMW drivers and teams of the past season were recognised. BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt presented the coveted BMW Sports Trophy awards to the 25 most successful drivers and the ten best teams. First place in the Driver Competition, and a winner’s cheque for 30,000 Euros, went to Christian Büllesbach (DE), who amassed 429 points in various events at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE). In the Team Competition, 1,051 points proved sufficient for Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport to defend its title: team principal Matthias Unger’s (DE) outfit also came out on top in 2014.

“The BMW Sports Trophy competitions have now formed a key part of BMW’s commitment to motorsport for more than 50 years,” said Marquardt. “Honouring the privateer BMW drivers and teams at the end of the season is something very close to our hearts, as the BMW Sports Trophy participants are outstanding ambassadors for the BMW brand in series and at events all over the world. Congratulations to Christian Büllesbach and Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport: they produced top performances over the course of the season and thoroughly deserve their trophies.”

In 2015, a total of 310 drivers from 29 different countries registered for the Driver Competition – more than ever before in the history of the BMW Sports Trophy. Forty eight teams scored almost 10,000 points in total, while well over 4,000 individual results were recorded in over 50 series and events. A total prize purse of 250,000 Euros was up for grabs in the Driver Competition, while the teams stood to win a share of 100,000 Euros.

Büllesbach tasted success in the VLN Endurance Championship at the wheel of a BMW Z4 run by Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport. He also won the title in the Rundstrecken Challenge at the Nürburgring (DE). En route to the title he won seven times and finished in the top five in a further seven races. Büllesbach also won the V5 class in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. The 16 points he picked up for finishing fifth in the VLN race on 31st October – the final day before the end of the points-scoring period for 2014/2015 – proved just enough for the Nordschleife expert to topple last year’s winner Markus Palttala (FI, 423 points) from first place at the last minute. Martin Kroll (CH, 394 points) finished third behind the winner of the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BE).

“This is just fantastic,” said Büllesbach. “I never thought it could be possible to be on top in the Driver Competition. I had a great year and had hoped for a top ten result, but I never even dreamed of winning the competition. Being part of this event is an amazing experience for me.”

The most successful teams of the BMW Sports Trophy season were also recognised for the third time. Pixum Team Adrenalin Motorsport produced another extraordinary performance to finish on top again in 2015, with a lead of 197 points over second-placed team Securtal Sorg Rennsport. The team’s drivers finished in the top three over 30 times in the VLN, BMW M235i Racing Cup and Rundstrecken Challenge Nürburgring. Pixum Team Adrenalin motorsport also won the title in the RCN. West Surrey Racing, who won races in the British Touring Car Championship, completed the top three with 839 points.

“Winning the BMW Sports Trophy Team Competition for the second time in a row is awesome,” said Unger. “We had a tough year, but thanks to my mechanics and a strong driver squad we managed to be at the top again. That’s a fantastic team effort.”
