Munich (DE), 12th October 2016. He was in a league of his own in the 2016 season: Michal Prášek (CZ) successfully defended his title in the Superstock class of the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR STK) and was crowned the champion with races to spare. Prášek finished all ten races of the season on the podium and celebrated five victories on his Rohac and Fejita motor racing team BMW S 1000 RR. With this streak of success, the 27-year-old Czech secured his second title win in a row at the penultimate round in Most (CZ).

It was clear that defending champion Prášek would be one of the favourites for the title this season. Nonetheless, the nature of the victory on his RR was more than impressive. A win and a second place at the season-opener in Slovakia were followed by two wins each at the Pannonia-Ring in Hungary and in Grobnik, Croatia. He then took the title with a second and a third in Most. At the season finale at the Slovakia Ring (SK), Prášek rounded off his season with two second places on the podium.

In an interview, Prášek speaks about the importance of winning two titles after he suffered a severe injury in 2014. He explains why the BMW S 1000 RR is a key to success and talks about the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

Congratulations, Michal, this season you won the title in the Superstock class of the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship for the second time in a row. You were even crowned champion with races to go. What do these titles mean to you?

Michal Prášek: “They mean a lot to me. In 2014 I had a very bad crash, and back then no one knew if I would be able to race a bike again. The accident had happened in Brno. I hit the barrier at a speed of 150 km/h. I suffered multiple fractures to my leg, severe concussion and a swelling of the lungs. So it was a great moment in my racing career to win the title in 2015. In 2016 we wanted to repeat that, and so it was just fantastic for the team and me that we did it. It is really important to stay strong when times are tough. That is typical of me.”

How do you like the BMW S 1000 RR?

Prášek: “The BMW S 1000 RR is a great bike. It is very powerful and one of the great advantages is that it is performs perfectly on every type of race track.”

What are your strengths as a rider?

Prášek: “I think my strong point is that I am on top form physically and mentally, and so I can concentrate 100 percent on the race when I am on the track.”

You are among the top positions in the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy. How do you like the concept?

Prášek: “I really like it because it is a great motivation for all the BMW racers around the world. Last year I finished the Race Trophy in fifth position, and that was an excellent result for our team. So the aim is to be in the top positions again this year.”

How did you invest the prize money and the bonuses you received for winning the championship last year?

Prášek: “I bought a second BMW S 1000 RR. We need two bikes. If one bike is damaged in another serious accident, I can use the second bike to continue racing.”

The 2016 season in the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship is over. What do you do when you are not racing bikes?

Prášek: “Racing is my life. I run a racing academy and teach every rider who needs support. My life is all about engines.”

CO2 emission information.

Fuel consumption, CO2 emission figures and power consumption and range were measured using the methods required according to Regulation VO (EC) 2007/715 as amended. They refer to vehicles on the German automotive market. For ranges, the NEDC figures take into account differences in the selected wheel and tyre size, while the WLTP figures take into account the effects of any optional equipment.

All figures have already been calculated based on the new WLTP test cycle. NEDC figures listed have been adjusted to the NEDC measurement method where applicable. WLTP values are used as a basis for the assessment of taxes and other vehicle-related duties which are (also) based on CO2 emissions and, where applicable, for the purposes of vehicle-specific subsidies.
