Munich. The 2017 DTM season is fast approaching. This week’s tests at the Hockenheimring (3rd-6th April) mark the final stages of preparation for the BMW teams.
BMW Team RMG – with drivers Marco Wittmann (GER), Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Timo Glock (GER) – and BMW Team RBM – with drivers Maxime Martin (BEL), Bruno Spengler (CAN) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) – will each be competing with three cars in this year’s 18 races. The two BMW M4 DTMs of Glock and Blomqvist will be supported by a combined crew, consisting of mechanics and engineers from both BMW teams. This squad will go by the name of Reinhold Mampaey Racing, or “RMR” for short.
“Working together perfectly as a team is absolutely essential in motorsport,” says BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “The crews from RMG and RBM sharing the workload for two of our BMW M4 DTMs this year is a totally new type of teamwork. Marco Wittmann, Augusto Farfus and Timo Glock are assigned to BMW Team RMG, while Maxime Martin, Bruno Spengler and Tom Blomqvist are competing for BMW Team RBM. The teams will work together as RMR for the cars driven by Timo and Tom, which is new. The fact that all teams and drivers are on an equal footing remains an important part of our DTM philosophy.”
The two team principals, Stefan Reinhold (RMG) and Bart Mampaey (RBM), also share responsibility for the RMR crew. At each DTM weekend, the garages for Glock and Blomqvist will be located between those for the RMG and RBM teams, and each team will provide four mechanics for pit stops.
