Blancpain GT Series: ROWE Racing on the podium at Brands Hatch.
The ROWE Racing team had cause to celebrate this weekend in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup at Brands Hatch (GBR). Markus Palttala and Jesse Krohn (both FIN) impressed from the word go in the number 98 BMW M6 GT3. The duo clocked the fastest time in the second free practice, and then qualified third to set themselves up nicely for the qualifying race. Palttala and Krohn produced outstanding drives to climb into second place and take their place on the podium at the end of the race. In the main race, the two Finns finished fifth to score more valuable points for ROWE Racing. The number 99 car, with BMW works drivers António Félix da Costa (POR) and Philipp Eng (AUT) at the wheel, also impressed with fifth place in the qualifying race. The duo was unfortunate in the main race, however. The race came to a premature end for the number 99, after colliding with a rival car in the pit lane. The next races take place on 3rd and 4th June in Zolder (BEL).
BTCC: Collard and Turkington win in Thruxton.
The West Surrey Racing team claimed another two victories at the third race weekend of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in Thruxton (GBR). Rob Collard (GBR) was first across the finish line in his BMW 125i M Sport in the second race of the weekend. The Brit finished tenth and seventh in the other two races. Team-mate Colin Turkington (GBR), who had taken his first win of the season at Donington Park (GBR), backed up his recent success with victory in race three. He had previously come home seventh and sixth in the first two races. Andrew Jordan (GBR) was 28th, 14th and 13th in the third BMW 125i M Sport.
Australian GT: BMW Team SRM celebrates best result of the season so far.
Steve Richards (NZL) and James Bergmüller (AUS), at the wheel of a BMW M6 GT3, finished seventh in Sunday’s race in the Australian GT Championship at the “Barbagallo Raceway” in Perth (AUS). The BMW Team SRM duo had come home tenth in the opening race on Saturday, and climbed steadily through the field from that position in the second 60-minute race. Danny Stutterd (AUS) was 14th on Saturday in the team’s second BMW M6 GT3. He failed to finish following a crash on Sunday.
Japanese Super GT: Seventh place for BMW Team Studie.
Fuji (JPN) hosted round two of this season’s Japanese Super GT Championship on Thursday. After 101 laps of racing, Jörg Müller (GER) and Seiji Ara (JPN) of BMW Team Studie crossed the finish line seventh in the GT300 class at the wheel of the BMW M6 GT3. The second BMW M6 GT3, run by Autobacs Racing Team Aguri, finished 17th in the race at the foot of Mount Fuji.
