Munich. At the halfway stage of the 37th BMW
International Open, Hennie du Plessis climbed to the top of the
leaderboard at Golfclub München Eichenried. The South African sits at
11-under-par overall, holding a one-shot advantage over BMW
International Open debutant Carlos Ortiz (MEX), fellow South African
Michael Hollick, and England's Jack Senior. Five of the 13 German
starters advanced to the weekend: Matti Schmid (-8, T9), amateur Finn
Kölle (-7, T19), Freddy Schott, Nicolai von Dellingshausen, and Thomas
Rosenmüller (all -4, T50). With all 66 remaining players separated by
just seven strokes, the battle for one of the DP World Tour's most
prestigious titles remains wide open.
21-year-old amateur Kölle carded a flawless second round featuring five birdies and has emerged as one of the standout stories of the opening two days. Another surprise has been YouTube star Brad Dalke (USA), who sits just two shots behind the leader in a share of fifth place, proving he can compete at the highest level. Freddy Schott produced one of the moments of the day. Needing an eagle at his final hole - the par-5 18th - to make the cut, he delivered exactly that. A spectacular second shot from a fairway bunker, 226 metres from the flag, set up the decisive eagle and secured his place for the weekend.
A total of 44 eagles have been recorded over the first two rounds. As part of the BMW Group's EAGLES FOR EDUCATION initiative, this has already generated €44,000 for the Philipp Lahm Foundation for Sport and Education.

Finn Kölle: “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. It’s simply
a dream come true. I’ve worked really hard, and to be able to compete
here at home now is incredible. This weekend, I’ll try to carry on as
I have been. I’m just having a lot of fun and enjoying the atmosphere here.”
Matti Schmid: “I really enjoy being here. I’m here to achieve a top result and to get the fans behind me. I’m really keen to win here at some point in my career. But I don’t feel the pressure to pick up points, as I play on a different tour. So perhaps it’s a bit easier for me in terms of pressure.”
Carlos Ortiz: “I’ve always wanted to play the BMW International Open and was really looking forward to finally coming here. I love Germany; I used to live in Germany. Munich is an incredible place. On this golf course, you need patience; you have to make use of the par-5 holes. 15 to 20 footers are very important. If you make some of those, you can play strong rounds – and I’ve managed to do that so far.”
Nicolai von Dellingshausen: “It was really great and just great fun. I think the idea of having these German flights is simply brilliant. We’ve known each other for a long time and are just happy when the other is playing well too. Freddy’s bunker shot on the 18th – my goodness – that was one of the three best shots I’ve ever seen.”
Brad Dalke: “There was a lot of pressure. I not only want to represent myself but also YouTube golf. There are some very good golfers on YouTube who have an impressive golfing history – and we’re increasingly proving that. I was a good junior golfer, but then I struggled with driver issues that I couldn’t really get over with for quite a while. Fortunately, YouTube helped me rediscover the joy of golf and get through that difficult period. I’ve been playing really good golf for a year and a half now, and it’s great to show that I can deliver in a tournament as well. We’ve still got two days to go, but I’m very proud of how I’ve managed the first few days.”
Michael Hollick: “It was a challenging round of golf. I didn’t get off to a great start. The first nine holes were tough. I made a couple of bogeys and whenever I managed a birdie, there was another bogey. I made a few birdies coming in and to steady the ship. You just have to stay in the fight, and that’s what I did.”

EAGLES FOR EDUCATION.
So far, the pros have scored 44 eagles.
Once again this year, the BMW Group is collaborating with the Philipp Lahm Foundation for Sport and Education through its EAGLES FOR EDUCATION initiative as part of the BMW International Open. The BMW Group is supporting the foundation in organising the Philipp Lahm Summer Camps with a donation of 1,000 euros for every eagle scored, as well as providing on-site support through BMW ambassadors. “Together with the BMW Group, we are working to empower children for the future and for their lives. Children have their whole lives ahead of them – and they are our future,” said Lahm. “Our aim is to provide them with support in three areas: physical activity, healthy eating and personal development.”
Since 2023, through EAGLES FOR EDUCATION, the BMW Group has been using numerous BMW tournaments around the globe to fulfil its responsibilities as a corporate citizen and to contribute to solutions for societal challenges. The focus is on educating and empowering children and young people. The BMW Group is convinced that education is the key to a self-determined future for young people and a cornerstone for social cohesion.
2026 Hole-in-One Award – The new BMW X5 M60e xDrive.
No player has yet managed a hole-in-one on the 17th this
year, so the Hole-in-One Award is still up for grabs: the new BMW X5
M60e xDrive, a plug-in hybrid with BMW Motorsport DNA. The new BMW X5
celebrated its world premiere on Tuesday at the BMW Group Plant
Spartanburg (USA) and is being presented to the German public for the
first time at the BMW International Open.
The new BMW X5 adds another chapter to its story of success. The fifth generation of the BMW X5 impresses with technical innovations, a stunning new design and the integration of future-oriented technologies from the Neue Klasse. This underlines its exceptional status and reinforces its leading position in a segment that it originally established.
